Pre-Build VS. Non-Pre-build

  1. 1. What is your preferred style of map to move to?

    • Pre-Built map, voxeled/worldpainted with nations, cities, ruins (E.g Anthos)
      25
    • Little bit of pre-building, bit of worldpainting and voxelling, few ruins, not much else (E.g Vailor)
      11
    • Fresh MC-generated map, nothing but the Cloud Temple built (E.g. Thales)
      1
    • Other.

Hey all! Gigarun here!

So recently I've personally not found Vailor as pretty as perhaps I should do (considering I helped develop the map when I was a GM :P). My favourite map has always been Anthos, as I always considered it to be the prettiest, and I am of the strong  belief that this is because it was pre-built with cities and such.

So this got me thinking. What do you lot prefer? When 5.0 rolls around, what would you like to see? Would you like nations and ruins to be pre-built by ET and players like Anthos? Would you like a completely empty map save for a few ruins, with designated areas for each nation to build their nations themselves like Vailor? What do you guys and gals want to see with 5.0? I'd personally prefer a completely pre-built map, perhaps I am biased to my favourite map. Who knows. I've set up a poll! Leave thoughts down below as well! Just sparking discussion that perhaps the staff will take into consideration should 5.0 ever be worked on.

I'd like another option. Ideally I'd want prebuilt world but not prebuilt nations. I want terraforming and pre-built ruins and cool custom made forests, but I want the players to build their own capitals and whatnot.

Vailor with more ET building basically.

I prefer the Vailor style (i.e. some prebuilding: ruins, maybe major nations) because it allows for that little touch of beauty that pure free-build screws over, doesn't have every special snowflake group building their cobble fort, but also allows for smaller groups to work towards eventually getting their own land if they work for it.

Pre-built, with players (Mainly nation leaders) overseeing the process. May add more to this reply later.

I'm of the opinion that prebuild for nations is a good thing, for capitals at least. Let secondary settlements be built out of pocket.

Obviously, keeping things within reason is a must but prebuild allows for better looking capitals. Better looking capitals, in turn, allow for more accommodation to roleplay. Making it difficult to have a pretty capital city is simply counter-productive.

Now, ruins and the like? Build them after the map is released. Don't delay map production for 1-and-done event structures. I doubt anybody is ever going to raise serious issue about "Why did that million year old ruin pop up overnight" if they provide enjoyable events.

The biggest thing to avoid is the museum that Athera was, where outside of certain pockets, 'no touching' was the norm. Keep the world thematic, but don't make it so pretty that it's too nice to be lost.

I joined just after vailor first started, so sadly all of this Anthos nostalgia pangs has no meaning to me (though the screenshots do look good, especially the castle). So I can`t really give a fair answer, but I agree with AGiantPie, Vailor with some more ET building.

this was the original intent going into 5.0. Unfortunately we decided that it couldnt be developed in any reasonable time frame (aka summer release) and opted for Vailor insted to give a refresher from the map everyone seemed to hate, Athera. When/if work starts up again on 5.0 it'll probably be like this still

Yeah, like, designate a place for a ruin and build it after. Lampshade it and smack people who care cry about it.

I agree with this. Players should still design how their nations look. Don't get me wrong, at least from an elven player perspective, Malinor was well designed in Anthos. I just believe it would work better if the ET devoted their time to ruins and the likes, while players of each race could design their own capital. As I stated in another forum thread, one of my favorite parts of Anthos was simply exploring all the ruins, mountains, and forests that were across the landscape.

If and when we do decide to go to 5.0 (I like this map so I would rather stay on this map for the foreseeable future.) I would rather have a fleshed out map with lore, Old Kingdoms and ruined infrastructure would be nice to set up in and it would give the world a deeper story than an being an untamed wasteland.  In my opinion, 5.0 is not needed and will not solve any problem, instead of putting manpower and work making a new map, the staff team can work on improving this map (adding dungeons ect).

Lets not talk about new maps and focus on what needs to be improved on this map

Worldpainted map

Voxel

Group of devs making areas (not connected to races or groups) can also have builders making natural landscapes and ruins about the map.

Nations get one week to see their land and plan and are allowed small changes to be made by the Dev team.
