Your View: The Event Team

The event team is a team designed with the players in mind. Their goal is to help shape and create a fun, exciting, and engaging experience for everyone they can on the server. Recently the event team has gone through a number of changes in the attempt to improve itself. How can we improve upon a team made for the players? Ask the players of course!

Hey there everyone, today I come to you with another "Your View" thread. Before we begin, there are a few things I'd like to address.

1. Why is this in news and announcements and not the "Your View" subforum?:

To make it easier to see and get feedback. As players are one of the number one factors to a successful ET, and we need as much feedback as we can.

2. What are some of the changes?:

New additions to the team, new policies, new lead, and much more to come based off of player feedback.

3. Who is the new lead?:

There is no singular lead right now. Currently the ET is trialing a new lead system. Choices are made somewhat democratically by the current ET managers and a GM overseer. The current Managers are:

Now, we want to hear your opinions on the event team. A few questions to consider:

-How do you feel the ET is doing as a whole?

-How often do you see events? Do you feel that there are enough events?

-How are the quality of events that you see?

-What changes would you recommend for the ET?

These are just some ideas to help you think, please, tell us whatevers on your mind.

MAJOR EDIT: I'll be sorting through this feedback in the coming days and may not respond to it all right away (I need sleep), but rest assured it will all go towards the betterment of the team

The ET's need to work with LM's to advance a players story, not the server's story. The players will do that job. It is like Antags, players should be given the right to create their own, if Harbingers want to make a comeback, then the ET's and LM's should help them. If a playerbase wants to become an evil superpower the rules everything, the ET's and LM's should in response give RP to aid and stop them. That is what will turn this server around and show that the ET care.

How frequently is the team assessed and new members added?

Never seen an event run by the Event Team. And I believe I've been playing since early September. The only interaction with an Event Team member IRP I've had was being killed by one who was a necrolyte/death stalker thing.

Seeing the broadcast I immediately assumed the event team is being removed next.

Why do you have to post a "JOKE" or write one up in your application? Shouldn't you guys write an Roleplay example post besides a Joke?

Since not many people can write good jokes and other people have different humour

I view the ET as good but I have a few Ideas that could improve the experience of Events

1. More animal ET's just randomly or on request i.e Bear attack, wolf pack etc

2. More buildings and dungeons hidden around Vailor, with loot and cool little puzzles or whatever in them

3. I have seem some fun, trolly sort of events in times of 20-50 people when I am mostly on. I would love to see more of these to give some fun in these hours

There just some of my ideas!

You're legitimately the sole reason I pugsied and left the team Dizzy. Please let another GM get ET so it doesn't stagnate to nothing like last time.

Rather than that, managers need to communicate more with members and get them working, remove all inactives no matter what.

How do I feel the ET is doing as a whole? Not too terribly bad, but its not really good either, per se. Things seem rather meh in my honest opinion.

How often do I see events? Not very often at all. They're rather sporadic for me. I think since we got to Vailor even taking into consideration my month hiatus I've seen 6 or 7. Could there be more? Yeah, I think a few mini events here and there would be nice.

What changes would I recommend for the ET? Less crush kill destroy events. I've only seen one event where it wasn't just mindless violence and such. These events are suppose to further rp and give people a story, but we can't really do much in response to an event if we die. Don't get me wrong, I like losing once in a while. But as an example, there was an event a week or two ago that I wasn't voluntarily attending, I got teleported to some floating island off in the middle of nowhere, and I was killed before the event really got rolling, the remains of my body left to rot. Which means I was yanked out of an existing RP only to have all memory of the rp leading up to the yank and what happened as a result of that yank to be entirely wiped because I was killed for something that my character didn't even say. The event's concept in itself wasn't bad, I just didn't get to enjoy any of it aside from a little spectating which quickly grew boring.

I want more whimsical, fun events. Something to make me laugh. Or something to drive drama. Or make a choice. Events that will leave a lasting impact on RP.

Everything needs a balance I believe. A little bit of story for everyone, and a little bit of player driven fun times. In the end we're going to be experimenting and seeing what works and what doesn't.

How frequently is the team assessed and new members added?

We try to keep an even amount of members and recruit more when either numbers drop, or we have a sudden need for a large amount of new members (such as massive projects). As for being assessed, the new system has only been in place for a few weeks now, so the ET is actually being assessed all the time.

Why do you have to post a "JOKE" or write one up in your application? Shouldn't you guys write an Roleplay example post besides a Joke?

This was a light-hearted addition to the application created a long time ago when BrandNewKitten had his brief stint as lead. It really doesn't do much harm, and in fact I think it serves as a reminder that the ET is all about having, and creating, a fun experience. Besides, it only takes under a minute to find a joke.

Does the ET even do anything besides small events for minuscule player groups anymore?
Please be more active and effect a larger amount of players when you are! Honestly, the server feels so lifeless these days. Playerbase needs a bit of help, y'know?

ET: 7/10 not bad, has certainly been worse, could definitely be better

The Good:

  • Events seem to come at a decent frequency. (For me, at least. Bare in mind I basically never leave wood-elf lands.)
  • Events are generally engaging and easy to get into.
  • The ET themselves are largely mature people who are good at RP.

The Bad(?)

1) A lot of events seem predetermined. I have no ways of proving whether or not this is true, so I'm just saying how I feel. A lot of the time, it seems like the event progresses at the ET wants it to, not how we try to make it.

For example, there's an ominous dark lord doing a cliche evil speech about how he's going to destroy this world! Naturally we don't want to hear this speech so we start throwing all our magic at it, but of course it happens to be immune to everything, conveniently enough, so it can finish it's whole spheel without us interrupting it.

2) Some ET seem to have this attitude of "I HAVE to kill some of these players to emphasize the power of this powerful event creature I'm playing".

I've heard players complain about this time and time again. Sometimes during an event, your death just seems unavoidable due to what seems like the ET pulling dues ex machinas or other poorly implemented plot devices just so he can kill off a few players.

I understand that you want to emphasize the danger of a situation when playing big, ferocious ET creatures, but keep in mind there's nothing more frustrating than dying during an event. Events are supposed to progress our characters in my eyes and dying negates all that.

I'm not saying "go out of your way to not kill people", but don't go out of your way to make sure people die either, which is something I've seen and heard of plenty of ET doing.

So, to summarize

1) be more responsive to players during events, dont invent reasons why the stuff they try doesnt work, so you can progress the event as you planned. adapt.

2) Dont go out your way to make sure you kill players cause you want to emphasize danger, its frustrating and breeds bad will

Overall

If you agree with my feedback, dont raise those pitchforks and torches. The ET is only human after all, and despite my long spheel of constructive feedback I do believe this current iteration of ET is definately better than many of the past.

Let me preface this by saying I dont hate the Event Team, i have a few mates on there and what not etc etc, but this is still probably going to sound like sour grapes.

This literal and utter neglection of Orcs. Is it because you dont understand our culture, or dont have any events to come up with that you just ignore us, or is it something else? We have ideas out the wazoo, if you need a helping hand. We had an event line lined up which just disappeared and now stowts are suddenly getting round the clock ET surveillance for all their event needs. Seems a bit bullskah to me.

Also just to show the struggle, it basically got to a point where I was leading hunts and events for the Orcs. Sounds good on paper until you realize there is a team dedicated to doing that. So I shouldnt have to stop advancing my character to give others a chance to advance theirs. Fin.

To add onto my previous post, I basically agree with this.

Also, remove my first post up above, the 'reserved' one. I can't edit it and these forums give me venereal syphilis.

I have been trying to remove some of the neglect for the Orcs, but I personally have not been doing a good job with that. I will see that other actors are aware of the lack of events provided for you, and are encouraged to do events for you, and are rewarded when they do.

2) Some ET seem to have this attitude of "I HAVE to kill some of these players to emphasize the power of this powerful event creature I'm playing".

I often feel impact-less when I play large event monsters. The goal for me is rarely to kill off your characters, but to bang them up a lot. I have done several combatative RP events, and the only way I've seen for me to get across the point that your character should suffer major bodily harm and would reasonably be afraid of whatever  I'm playing is to kill the players. It's never my intention to kill players, though, and you should know that better than anyone: you and I talked for a while about the pointlessness of constantly lethal events. That said, I wish players knew how to break more than just ribs and take cuts to their shoulders. I appreciate the feedback, though.

Drafting large event-lines takes time, but I understand your complaints, and I will see what we have in the works!
