I think you did well. The LotC community tends to be a pretty loose cannon. This isn't your fault, there was some miscommunication between the staff and the players and it blew up. People don't seem to understand or don't want to understand what actually happened. I feel you don't need to apologise.

As a member of the application team, and someone who goes through enough bad applicants as it is, the prospect of having to go through potentially hundreds or thousands more of those is daunting.

However, maybe this is the time where we rework our application system and put an age limit on the server. I do not mean to limit anyone's fun, however, yesterday's events made it apparent that the community does not want little kids around, which is fair enough. Personally I think little kids should have nothing to do with lotc anyway, purely because of any  inappropriateness they may bump into, ooc'ly or rp'ly, that's all.

Also, I do not believe you have to apologise for anything, what you did was actually a really kind gesture. But there was a lot of miscommunication between staff and players, and.. Staff and staff, actually.

Don't take any of the drama to heart to be frank with you. We make drama all the time I for one am glad your helping this server out. As long as you make clear to your audience what this server really is and as long as the app team does it job and weed out the unfit people for the server, there should really be no problem as far as I am concerned.

I'd personally love to see the work that has gone on to continue. As the leader of the Application Team for the server I'm always happy for any situation that can promote more activity and applications to the server. Me and the rest of the team that I lead on the server welcome this opportunity and welcome you (Admittedly I was asleep during this whole situation due to sleep schedules!). We have a pretty dedicated community who all have opinions and whatnot, many have been here for years and all that. However I'm sure that they'll warm up to you soon!

You are not at fault and have no need to apologize!

No need to apologize, if anything the Lotc community should be apologizing for how immature we were. Thank you for being understanding and not lashing out, a lot of us love this server and put a lot of our time into it. We're a pretty small tight knit community!

It is no need for you to apologize. What became evident was that it was simply poor planning throughout and immaturity from us, the player base.

So if my apology means much, and I'm sure many others feel the same then that is the least I can give.

Sounds like you're getting a lot of (undeserved) personal backlash. I, for one, don't have any beef with you as a person. On the contrary, you seem to be an ok dude. You do your youtube channel and clearly do it quite well, but I don't think the type of Rp that you partake in on your channel is at all similar to how we do Rp here. It might sound elitist, but we adhere to a strict set of standards and follow a specific setting (that being fantasy medieval).

A lot of people are upset at this whole situation because literally no one in the community bar Telanir/Tythus knew that this YouTube thing was going to happen before it got dropped on us the other day, and a lot of people simply have no desire to have a special youtube event advertise the server. They are afraid that we will get a lot of applicants that don't really know how to Rp, (Whether or not they are young is irrelevant, though we do have a lot of mature stuff on the server that isn't really suited for younger kids), and frankly LotC is NOT AT ALL in a situation where we can handle a huge influx of new Rpers. We're just starting to put systems in place to improve our method of handling new applicants and players, and a lot of us feel that good publicity is /exactly the opposite/ of what we want and need. Considering that none of us were asked our opinions on the matter before this happened, it was very shocking, surprising, and therefore scary.

There's also the matter of the actual event itself. I don't know much about what happened yesterday, but apparently you guys had a special filming event thing. This is somewhat sensible, given that recording for youtube often requires a controlled environment, but it was handled very poorly by our administration. Some of our (new) players were banned on the spot for wandering near to the filming area, despite not being notified that anything was going on. Naturally, this caused a lot of people to get angry on behalf of their banned friends and on behalf of their banned selves. Also, considering that our Rp is never custom tailored and given that you guys had duck skins and whatnot on (I understand why you do, its your youtube persona), that led a lot of people to believe that the video being made would not accurate represent LotC. A video that misrepresents what Rp on LotC is will naturally lead to a lot of people having the wrong idea about the server and therefore applying for something they /don't actually want./ That situation is bad for us and bad for any of your viewers who want to join our server.

Finally, there's the issue of Scene21. It's safe to say that Scene21 did an absolutely terrible job introducing himself. The vague non-answers he gave and the extreme suddenness of his arrival led a lot of people to question his motivations and his legitimacy. This sort of partnership can only work if people trust each other, and we started off with absolutely 0 trust. This entire event has been a snowball train wreck from the moment it was announced, and the more it gets pushed the more it's just making people riot.

Though I didn't participate in any of the spamming, I apologize for the **** that you've had to deal with. There's a lot of angry people who don't know what to be angry at and are just lashing out however they can. And finally, I very much appreciate you making this post and reaching out to us regular community members. You seem like a decent guy.

Edit: One thing I forgot to cover... on the matter of applications and banning; Increasing the amount of applications the server gets is not necessarily a good thing. If most of the applicants aren't really suited for the server, this will lead to a lot of hurt feelings on their part, frustration that they can't get on the server (even though the server is probably something they don't even really want to play on - the videos might misguide them), and a huge amount of work for our volunteer application team. The same goes for banning new players that don't know the rules. We generally don't like to just ban a new player for not knowing how to Rp. Ideally, we teach them how we do things and they integrate into our community, but if we have too many of these new players or if they are too unawares about how we do things then this system breaks down and fails.

On a more serious note. As long as you make it very clear that the server is not looking for players who just want to come onto the server to follow their idol and not do anything, including those fanboys who will just get on to spam you with messages once accepted, it should be good. Also if you're going to be playing the server I hope you can roleplay with all the spam pms.

I really do hope we can work again in the future on a continuation. It was fun working with you. I'm excited to see how the video comes out, and touched by you coming here to speak to us. Don't worry at all.

Although I don't participate in the server anymore, I would like to put in my two cents.

You really don't need to apologize. Like others have said, I'd chalk it up to poor planning and communication. I played on here for about three years and I had a lot of fun over that time. I think the video should be released, though as long as it's made clear that this is a serious roleplay server.

One of the main fears that I've seen over these events is your target audience, though I think that it'll have the same effect that applying to the server had on me; When I first applied, I barely knew anything about roleplaying and I couldn't come up with a good story to save my life. Once I got accepted, I found myself getting better at thinking up good stories and lifelike characters. Over time I got more creative and towards the end of my three years, I was able to make up decent characters on the spot.

LotC is definitely great for learning writing and story-telling as well as fueling the imagination and the experience I had and the friends I've made stick with me even though I've moved on from the server.

Even with your target audience, I think that if they took the application process seriously and really got into the server, they could have the same experience I did and I think that experience is worth sharing, even if it only happens to a handful of people.

I really hope that the initial knee-jerk reaction didn't make too bad of an impression. Like everything else, we do have our vocal minority. Keep doing what you do and have fun on the server. :)

Thank you. Your understanding was really something we needed

I also agree on the fact that the video may cause the server to attract your target audience as others have suggested. As you've had a duck in a video, and as this is a more serious roleplay server than that; your target audience may understand the server wrong, thus rest in peace the Application Team

I want to first thank you for posting a level headed and kindhearted response to this server's absolute aneurysm yesterday. I for one am impressed by the maturity and understanding you have. As many before me have said, there has been a huge miscommunication and an overall lack of understanding between the community and the staff. I would love for LoTC to get the right kind of attention, and I think if we take this slowly and think it through, you can help us do that. So again, thank you for posting this response. I am sorry our community displayed so much hate and senselessness yesterday, but it was out of the intense love for and protectiveness of our server. I hope you could understand that.
