The Divergence of Ashford

For long, we have ignored the infidelity of those whom have named upon themselves the descendents of Ashford; in such process, self-righteously exalting their bloodlines to that of the divine and prestigious Horen. It has always been known of the nationalistic attitude the Savoyards have held for their culture and holdings. However, the true ambitions of those that would call themselves the sons of Ashford have begun to be known. That which lay beneath the iceberg has been weakened by the Savoyard sun and brewed to the surface.

The beginning of this was unbound from the shadow that shelters it by Elias de Savoie, who stormed the Imperial palace with weapons drawn amongst his band of Savoyards, commencing to decry against the Emperor’s rule after refusing to pay taxes to His Imperial Majesty, John Horen I. Elias dared to speak obstinately, stating, “You only hold that throne by the virtue of my father’s generosity... I will look forward to the day your tyranny is ended.” His Imperial Majesty immediately ordered their arrest to which they retaliated, attempting to murder him in the ensuing chaos; however, their attempt was only dawned in their failure. Instead of executing them all under jurisdiction of High Treason, His Imperial Majesty, with ‘the virtue of his generosity’ spared them all except for one who had personally insulted them. When asked what Elias would have done had his forces prevailed against the Imperial guards, he stated that he would give ‘Ashford their justice’. There is nothing to justify for men who spit upon the feet of their liege, living or deceased. Denis de Bar, in a foolish egotistical rant,  publicly slandered the name of John Horen I in the square of Felsen, proceeding to murder a Horen sympathizer who acted against him. It is apparent that there is no gratitude from the Savoyards in context of the frequent generosity that His Imperial Majesty, John Horen I bestowed upon them. The sons of Ashford have forgotten of the responsibilities and honors they bear in the position of nobility that they hold over their people and the realm as a whole.

“However, the Lords also have responsibilities. Nobles are required to honor, serve, and counsel their Monarch. They are often required to render military service or pay ‘scutage’ if they cannot. They are required to protect and hold their lands, and to be fair and protect the commoners that live under their rule. The title of "Lord" is not infallible: certain activities could cause disgrace loss of nobility.”

-Adrian Rothesay, ‘The Dominions of the Realm: Monarch's & Lordly Privileges.. et cetera’

According to the essay ‘On John Horen’, there is a popular notion circulated throughout the Principality of Savoie that our formerly deceased monarch had ‘established his administration on treasonous activity, building himself up on regicide and underhanded dealings against the Crown's integrity’. There is no honor in disgracing the name of your recently deceased liege, to leap to the opportunity to denounce the former rule of John Horen I. The descendants of Ashford must come to realize that the Kingdom of Oren [now the The Fifth Holy Orenian Empire], has and always will continue to be the ancestral lands of House Horen, the direct descendants of the father of humanity. The Monarchs of Oliver de Savoie and Guy de Bar were not given right to inherit the title, but to serve as the protectors of the Kingdom, not to selfishly claim it to be their own. This attitude of selfish greed had shown once more as Savoyard forces marched to the capital of Felsen in an attempt to take the city after the death of His Imperial Majesty John Horen I, only to be beaten back by the loyal men of Empire who stationed themselves in retaliation against them. How is it that the hearts of such men churn with such selfish desire, laying in wait like snakes amongst the grass for the time to strike forth in opportunity to serve oneself while sacrificing loyalty to the Empire that showed them such kindness and mercy at the emergence of the true rightful heirs to the throne of Oren.

The essay ‘On John Horen’ puts forth claims of immense flaws in our former monarch, claiming him to be a warmonger and a feeder of ego, seeking only that which would better his own image; yet it is they, the Savoyards, who put their pride in the war just as any other man in the Empire, and it is they who have laid in wait like snakes to prey to seize the opportunity to better their own image and influence. They have spoken of him as a failure, but he had kept the Empire secure from external and internal threats. When reformationists began to plague the worship of the Empire, it was John Horen I who deemed it heretical and blasphemous, persecuting the culprits and outlawing such practice as seen in the Second Diet of Metz.

“On the 16th of the First Seed in the year of our Lord, 1534, an assembly has been held by the Emperor to resolve the doctrinal issue between the Church of the Canon, the Reformist petitioners and the activist James Turnbull. With substantial arguments on both sides it has been decided that the ideology which James Turnbull preaches is hereby considered heresy and outlawed in the Holy Orenian Empire. He and his writings are hence considered under formal Imperial ban and condemnation. The Church of the Canon is confirmed as the religion of the Imperial state, and those who contravene this confirmation by adopting heretical beliefs shall be subject to the full force of the law.”

-The Second Diet of Metz, 16th of the First Seed, 1534

It has been brought forth of his ‘actions against the women of Ashford’. An uneducated and baseless claim in an attempt to further discredit His Imperial Majesty, John Horen I. Anyone knowledgeable in the rights of a monarch would know that he holds such right with the courting of his subjects and their recognized family.

“The Emperor can control the marriage of his tenants’ widows and heirs, meaning he can reject or accept marriages of nobles.”

-Adrian Rothesay, ‘The Dominions of the Realm: Monarch's & Lordly Privileges.. et cetera’

The true action against a woman of the Fifth Holy Orenian Empire would be those committed against the Imperial Princess Catherine Horen, who was recently found in a cave in Carnatia with the Ashford sun carved into her back after being abducted by Edgar de Saltpans, a wanted fugitive in Oren whom is often sheltered by many of the sons of Ashford.

Those who step toward their selfish desires with treachery consuming their mind shall all suffer the same fate. I would advise against demanding ‘Blood for Ashford’ lest that blood come from you. Savoyards, come forth and kneel before your Emperor.

Long live His Imperial Majesty, the Holy Orenian Emperor John Sigismund Horen

A young boy would read this, and scoff loudly. "It's in poor taste to insult the vassal with the only legitimate claim to the Reformed Kingdom of Oren, the very state in which was preyed upon by the late John I to make this Empire. Why are such senseless provocations even allowed to be published?"
