Wrynn 1349 Share Posted March 14, 2016 Hello Lord of the Craft! Almost one year has passed since the last "your view" about lock-picking, and the staff team at LotC would like to take another chance to see your opinions and views upon the matter. As stated above, its been a while since we last listened to how the community felt about lock-picking. I'd like to hear your opinions again, and make informed decisions off of how the community would like lock-picking to continue within the future. Currently, many of the staff on LotC feel as if lock-picking is not being used for the rp purpose it was made for. That being stealing rp items such as the "Hallowed Blade of the Night" or other event/lore items. We'd like to hear how you all feel about this statement, and what you could suggest to perhaps improve the current system that we have in place. Perhaps whether that is to make lock-picking more rp friendly, or to improve the system overall. By submitting your views upon this topic, we can model this system around the community, and make the server a more enjoyable experience for you and others around you. The more feedback that we receive, the more that we will be able to improve upon the system. Remember to keep respectful when sharing your feedback!
MetaSolaray 242 Share Posted March 14, 2016 I think anyone would feel better about lockpicking if it was done with at LEAST the player whose chest you're stealing from is on. The whole reason we have double/triple doors and random hidden chests is because your stuff can be broken into when you're not on. There is no RP for me if someone breaks into my house when I'm sleeping, I can't do anything to stop him. And there is NOTHING stopping someone from ensuring they are doing it when you're offline. Edit: Oooo first, neat.
Nekkore 641 Share Posted March 14, 2016 Damnit Aaron you beat me to it... Currently lockpicking in my opinion is too GM reliant. So at times we may just be standing by for a long time and within that time a random player to come by to eliminate the criminals when it should have been get in get out situation.
Rassidic 470 Share Posted March 14, 2016 as a vip- just give me anthos-level lockpicking. the gm decided what you got and the items had to be able to be carried by your character, and you could only take 20%
AGP 3169 Share Posted March 14, 2016 Lockpicking into chests is dumb. Lockpicking through doors is fine.
Runabarn 1028 Share Posted March 14, 2016 Lockpicking doesn't really provide RP at all. And the fact it relies on modreqs makes it all the more terrible. A bad system implemented for the wrong reasons.

Aesopian 1639 Share Posted March 14, 2016 I think we should allow new players a limited number of locks for their chests (5?) to prevent players like Aesopian from stealing everything they own. HOWEVER, I also believe that we should have a system whereby teams of players can conduct 'heists' from military storage for empires/kingdoms, taking items which might be valuable to the war effort (e.g. stealing TNT, or stealing weapons, potions, other equipment), but only on a small and specific scale. For instance, maybe each player who participates in the heist allows the group to steal 2 additional units of whatever item they are taking, so for instance, a heist involving four players could steal eight TNT.
Stag 3230 Share Posted March 14, 2016 A part of me would be more inclined to set limits to the amount of chests that can be locked. coal - 3-5 then + 2 for each level idk though since I'm not huge into theif RP. I would hate to have my shiz taken when I'm offline. Perhaps a plugin that auto-leaves notes/emotes for the owner? *This chest has been trifled through*
Aesopian 1639 Share Posted March 14, 2016 Just now, BrandNewKitten said: A part of me would be more inclined to set limits to the amount of chests that can be locked. coal - 3-5 then + 2 for each level idk though since I'm not huge into theif RP. Perhaps a plugin that auto-leaves notes/emotes for the owner? *This chest has been trifled through* This also seems like a fine idea (the limiting of chest number), but for the next map. I don't think we should have our current number of locked chests changed, as many players likely have above this cap already.
KentuckyFriedCreeper 79 Share Posted March 14, 2016 Thought it was fine in Anthos and before, kind of killed the master thieves guild and other criminal gangs when they couldn't burgle and do proper heists.
Argontum 153 Share Posted March 14, 2016 For door lockpicking is fine, but for chests lockpicking we can get like some of whatever is in the chests, probably like, 5%-10% of the items in there maybe?
L0rdLawyer 2272 Share Posted March 14, 2016 The server's trying to stop all this non-rp bull**** going on, this won't help. This will cause drama, get players upset, and more because players will just go around, spending them time looting everything for fun. Just keep it how it is. And trusting players with percentages won't help. Everyone think to the monk bread chest in Athera. Only take five, *takes the whole chest*.
Moochael 730 Share Posted March 14, 2016 I think it's bad that anyone can pick a lock if they just have a lockpick (I believe that's how it works? If not, disregard this point). When I first joined the server (As a little noob ;( ), VAs were a thing. I tried to get a combined VA for murdering and lockpicking, and the VA team member made a good point: How and where did your character learn lockpicking? I think this point should be valid for today's society. Lockpicking isn't something you can pick up in 5 seconds, it takes practice and time. Mods can occasionally take too long to reply to modreqs, but hey, what are ya gonna do? And also, like stated in other replies, there should be limits of what you can take. Like, in roleplay it would be hard to waltz into a house, take 2 sets of armor, 5 golden blocks, etc. and walk out all dandy. Maybe a limit on how much of a certain type of object you can take?
