Lore, LMs And The Future

Hail! I have a number of things to discuss with you guys so, let’s get started:

Lore Overhaul:

As some of you have realised I’ve been making a few changes across the Lore Team and how we function, and my first project as LM lead was to organise the mess that is LoTC’s lore. For a few weeks I’ve had the team compile and edit a lot of lore to remove inconsistencies, additions and generally work lore into other lore, allowing for the framework of organisation to be made. Now it’s (mostly) done! Server lore is now easily accessible through the forums, and shifting through subforum after subforum to find it is a thing of the past, behold the lore button!

Several things are still being worked on and should be added soon, but we intend to fill in the gaps and write lore that has only ever been word of mouth.

New Lore Submission Guide:

Check here:

https://www.lordofthecraft.net/forums/topic/142997-lore-submission-guide/

This exists as a guide rather than a set of criteria for submitting lore and tells you exactly what LMs are looking for when they review the lore. Often we deny lore simply because it’s too similar to something else, or is an idea that already can be achieved through some other method. Duplications in lore are what makes it untidy, so before submitting a piece of lore be sure to go through that post. I would suggest you study the relevant lore categories via the lore button before making lore to confirm that the idea is not something that already exists. The information on this post is actually an edited copy of the LM reviewal guide in our forum, so this information will certainly be useful for any submitter of lore, and it should answer any questions on the lore reviewal process.

I will be making a new fresh LM Q&A thread soon for any queries you may have.

Looking for LMs:

We have recently lost a few members of the Lore Team and thus I am looking for a few more to bolster the ranks. LMs are going to be essential to the future plans of the server very soon. As some of you may or may not know, we recruit LMs with specific knowledge on certain areas, on top of their general writing skill. The areas we are currently lacking in the team are as follows:

  • Druidic Lore and all things natural and aspect.

  • Human Lore (all subtypes) and history.

  • Elven Lore (all subtypes) and history.

If you believe you are one of the more knowledgeable in these areas, hop on over to the staff applications section of the forum and post up a Lore Master application. I will be going through them all very soon.

The Future Of Lore:

The most frequent question I receive is when will we be reestablishing a storyline for the server? So I’ll use this post as an opportunity to give you guys a behind the scenes talk. The map we are currently on as most of you know was intended to be a temp map and I feel we are too late into the map to give it any significant purpose other than the isle we reside on. Rather than shambling a storyline together to begin immediately, the LT and I are making plans for a very large storyline that will be happening when we transition to the next map. I believe we can wait a little longer and in return have a story that has been well planned and thought out.

That said, I have been speaking to the ET lead, Freema, on what we could be doing on this map to drive a bit of story and he and a few others have some plans that I will be assisting them to executed, so you can expect things to be happening in the near future, but the greater storyline is being reserved for the not so near future. Obviously I don’t want to spoil it but know that we are taking our server’s history of events and storylines into account, I believe the plan we have is one that will definitely last for a significant amount of time.

However, we need your input. Take a look at the link below and let us know what you think makes a successful storyline. Is it rewards? An antagonist? A story that branches? etc. We want to know what you want to see, this is all for you at the end of the day:

I hope that has allowed for some transparency.

Thanks, Benbo.

we love u benbo

also THANK YOU for the lore submissions guide, it was desperately needed for people to understand some of the most common issues that arise when writing/submitting lore that basically pre-determine it as unacceptable.

can we have more filler lore, with arbitrary stories about ancient heroes and other bullshit? our lack of a Gilgamesh is annoying

Oh my god, thank you. As new player I had very hard time finding useful, clear, legibile texts nad not it looks like something actually to read.

I've got my app still up and I'm still interested after not passing the last trial. Although my knowledge on these subjects listed are not to LM level.
