On the evening of the 13th of Suns Smile, 1558, former Leutnant of the Courlandic military, Wykem Evenheart, was sitting in his keep with his apprentice of many moons, Ramsey Stafford. By dawn, Ramsey awoke to find his instructor, teacher, and dearest friend gone.

A note is left flat against Ramsey's bedside table.

 

The 14th of Suns Smile, 1558

Ramsey, I am sorry but I must go. I can no longer stay here in Vailor. I have spent far to long fighting for the glory of man, and the safety of our people. My old bones begin to creek each time I lift my sword. My hair grows grey with each cycle of the sun. They say Elves have the curse of life, but even long lives at some point come to an end. I have trained you well, taught you all I know,. You have come to know the men of these lands just as I have, and they have come to respect you just as they had respected me. You know your place now, you know your duty. The keep is now under your name as well as my rank. Make your family proud, just as I know you can.

Ramsey rises tall in the keep of his former master. He clutches the note in his hands walking towards the front of the grand hall.

"Thank you"

He promotes looking past the open door to the elegant cloud filled sky.

"I shall not let you down"
