I feel a skill wipe or partial skill reduction would be irrelevant, people with very high skills have them for a reason, they're grinders. If skills got reduced by any amount, the people that currently have high skills would just grind to the cap, and people who rp rather than grind will continue to message their friends for whatever they need. The economy won't be affected much, it'd just be another time sink.

If you actually want to level the playing field of 5.0, then remove the skill plugin in the first place. A skill system always puts AVT*St3s at an unfair advantage over other players because they actually have the attention span and time on their hands that is required to grind endlessly to a higher level.

what a perfect time to tear down the establishment of GRINDING, let RP beat out the grind. build your reputation as a blacksmith through roleplay! roleplay! roleplay! roleplay! people complain that the skill system promotes a pvp-oriented server. i love pvp, but grinding does really take away from the fun of storytelling on here.

Remove the skills plugin, infact, remove Nexus. Just let it be vanilla with custom recipes here and there. No more nonsensical food decay and skill grinding.

As current top enchanter please wipe all skills.

 

I don't think removing Nexus is the solution in fact I distinctly recall when there was not skill plugin and was a big push for one, who is to say that in a few months we'll be asking for one yet again? I have no solutions that I can provide of right now, but the staff should encourage the community to come together and design a skills plugin. Will it work in practice? I don't know but I think it's an option that should be explored.

                You won't get anywhere if you only wipe skills. There needs to be a complete re-evaluation on the levelling progression with Nexus and what each level would reward you with. If 501 wants the plugin to stay on the server and (somewhat) promote roleplay then the techs have to move the plugin away from rewarding high grinders with PvP gear. Nexus, in it's current form, is a heavily biased PvP plugin that only rewards spending hours AFK at an anvil, crafting table or brewing stand.

but yeah, you're right. As a filthy casual, professions have drove me off the server over time because I just can't be bothered to put in the work.

The way I see it, the server is trying to take nation RP seriously, and it's never going to happen without legitimate competition for land and resources.

 

Think early Japanese rice empires. Kingdoms are born through surplus, generally agriculture, but in minecraft it could really be anything (mines, rivers, plains, forests). Add resources back to the actual map, give nations a legitimate reason to contend, and you shouldn't even need a shitty skills plugin.

No skill wipe. People with the best connections are the ones who are going to level up the fastest, those connections do not change. On the other hand, it is just infuriating to have to grind up all that stuff only for your skill to be reset a year or two later.

Ye I always liked the server better without the plugin... it was a good attempt but way too many limitations were implement . Feels like the mechanic is used more to pass time, like grinding in an mmorp rather than be used for the primary focus of LoTC which is roleplay.
