KosherZombie 1772 Share Posted May 28, 2016 The setting sun cast its rays like red daggers over the silent Courlandic fields. The screams and pains of battle, followed by whoops of victory and sobs of defeat had subsided hours ago. The Duchy mourned with more than defeat. They mourned the loss of their duke. Though no corpse had been recovered, the man was nowhere to be found. In the early hours of the following morning a rider clothed in a torn Staunton tabard emerged from the Ducal Palace. The horse was dark, only its eyes visible against the blackness of the night. It might seem, to the onlooker, that the rider floated through the streets of Riga. But, as he rode, white parchments fell behind him. They held a simple message within: To any who doubted - the Duke Aleksandr Staunton is gone. The recent battle took my son, an illustrious leader and great man from our Duchy. Yet it is our duty to him that we carry his legacy with pride. Thus, without any other immediate or obvious heir, I, Duke Richard Staunton of Courland, do reaffirm my claim upon our blessed home. Together we will navigate these dark times. Courland shall prevail.-- Signed Lord Richard of House Staunton, Duke of Courland
ThatWeirdGirl 432 Share Posted May 28, 2016 A peasant girl with blonde hair frowned as she read over the notices. Her mind immediately went to her friend, Sven. She would have to check on him, she wasn't sure what she would do when she found him but she would. She scampered off, brow furrowed.
trol 272 Share Posted May 28, 2016 The heir to Courland is Sven Staunton, eldest son of Alexander Staunton. "I, Sveneld of Vsevolodevich, descendant of Ivan, descendant of Yakov the Accursed, Hetman of the Solnichian Hetmanate, Lord of Godansk, Possessor of Siegmund's Eye, back the claim of Sven Staunton. Let the pretenders burn at the stake."

Temp 2006 Share Posted May 28, 2016 A man would deliver a message to the returning Duke and should it be received, it would read as follows:Greetings, The Company of the White Cross would extend arm in advice, should you be willing to take it. Resign your title, resign your claims to the North and relocate whilst placing yourself in the care of a more experienced house. I am admittedly ignorant of the process involved with doing such an action but falling back to recover and taking those loyal alongside you seems to be the best path of action. As is, your followers are lacking in training and experience. Should the conflict continue as is, you will never grow into a more competent and noteworthy force, which damages the Empire in its entirety. This inward conflict has forced a blind eye upon external forces, which have been given time to regroup. Not only has this allowed external forces to partake in this war, for reasons unknown, it has created a forced divide that must be remedied before the enemies of the Empire take action. You will do with this advice as you see fit and I hold no grudge should it be disregarded. Best of luck, Seneschal Hornbet
Helios_ 288 Share Posted May 29, 2016 Dagr Vanir would tub at his temples in the hall of Carnatia, catching word of such events. "Was it not Duke Anden's son who was supposed to be the rightful heir rather than this 'Sven Staunton' who had been born of the Aleksandr "The Hamster" Staunton's blood? A weak father comes with a weak son and I would advise against giving this youngling a seat that is so high from the ground..."
Taketheshot 3834 Share Posted May 29, 2016 Balgruff hums as he walks up the steps to krakens watch "Now where did I leave my axe?" He stops as he reaches the top seeing rubble, bodies and carnage in the crater and few walls that were once krakens watch. "On second thought....ill just get a new one."
Icarnus 1669 Share Posted May 29, 2016 If there is going to be a warclaim over who is going to be the official Duke, Courland might as well give up now.

Sven Staunton is not the eldest brother."
