A Recall to Duty

With the dust settling after the unfortunate betrayal of Markese de Rolle, copies of an Imperial missive would be sent across the lands in the wake of the recent revolt. It reads as follows:

A painting of the Felsen citizenry fleeing to the safety of rallied Imperial forces, 1568

To the men of the Felsen Watch.

On the battlefield honour is won, prestige is gained, and men are made. Sadly, some have mistaken Felsen for such a proving ground, and many innocent men and women lay slain in a vain attempt to capture the glory of war.

Many a person call Felsen their home, and many more beyond that rely on our great city to make a living. All of this was made possible with an ever vigilant guard force that both cared for the people, and engaged against the many monsters who would prey on them. Alas, the silver tongue of Iblees must have found itself in the mouth of one of these monsters, as nothing less would be required to convince one to turn a blade on themselves, and their countrymen.

Our fair city, thankfully, has survived the attack against it, but it now lacks the men who had built it to such heights before. In their place, the Gold Corps have had to man their stations. It goes without saying that though they serve well, not one person would prefer them to their friends, family, and neighbors. You.

It is clear that the act was misguided and bore little natural ill will, and as such, amnesty is offered to all men who may chose to return to their duties. For his heinous crimes against the state, and for promoting such a negative influence to be held over his men, Markese de Rolle is the only exception to this rule, and would see swift judgement.

The Leadership of Felsen now asks most humbly now for the duty and work of The Felsen Guard to not be damned and undone, and we pray to see these wrongs corrected.

Signed,

His Imperial Highness, John Owyn, Regent of Oren, Prince of Alstion and Heir Apparent to the Holy Orenian Empire

Mattington remembers the lack of appreciation all civilians had for the guard.  He would cringe slightly at the insults and derogatory words hurled at him and his fellow brigadiers.  In a solemn move he would shake his head, crumble the paper and toss it behind him.

Bell shrugs, sitting in the tavern as he reads over the letter, scoffing at the idea at returning to guard duty. "We filled a demanding position, and so many of us spent hours upon hours in tha' yard training, as well as out on the streets, an' what do we have to show for it? An ungrateful city an' Corpsmen tha' simply yell at you when you try t' do your job at tha' gate," he'd grunt, tossing the paper aside.

"Let a new generation of men take over."

Michael reads over the letter before stopping midway through with a frown. "Turned a blade on ourselves and our countrymen? All we did was try to arrest a corrupt and scheming politician, one that even the regent's brother agreed was a problem. Then after our failed attempt at arresting him, we defended Felsen and repelled an attacking army. Arresting criminals, defending the city and the citizens, that's all part of our job." He grumbles.

Davius would pause on his walk to pick a paper off the street, lighting up with a grin. He walks off to find Manston, eager to resume sparring once more in the yard.
