The Last Alliance: The Final Defense

As war drew nigh, the remnant of the Dreadlands banded together with the Warhawkes in a last defense against the Orenian Imperial Army.  Casting aside their previous vestiges as bandits and assassins, they became soldiers, grim and fierce.  Blacksmiths forged armor and weapons, commanders rallied their forces, and citizens laid down their plows and took up their swords.

The defenders took on a new name, the Last Alliance, a coalition of men and elves.  Their single goal: to drive Orenians from their lands and restore peace and prosperity in the Dreadlands and all Axios.

Sir Ethan Silversteed leaned on his spear, waiting for the night.  Beside him his lieutenant Bruce Vesperi stood silent and grim.  They had climbed to the top of a battlement overlooking the Dunamis courtyard.  For weeks they had recruited new warriors and gathered them to their banner.  Many Dreadlanders saw the impending Orenian invasion and fled, leaving their families and houses to burn.  However, some of the Dreadlanders rallied and defied Oren, vowing they would fight to the death and not flee.  Naysayers argued against the wisdom of fighting, claiming fleeing was the wisest approach.  Despite animosity from former Dreadlanders and Orenians alike, Sir Ethan and his commanders ready their army.  Sir Ethan and the leader of the Warhawkes met to discuss tactics and logistics.

The fortress below Sir Ethan and Bruce bustled with activity, ringing with orders from officers and shouts of soldiers and whinnying of horses.  The army was marshaling.  The Last Alliance was going to war.  Could their force of a thousand men withstand the fury of Oren?  Sir Ethan did not know the answer, but he knew that every soldier in the courtyard below was willing to lay down his life for the cause.  Sir Ethan mused, "Perhaps this shall be our last war, but if this is to end in flame, we and Oren shall burn together."  He tightened his grip on his sword hilt and smiled, a keen light in his eyes.

"Foolish to think they can hold out seeing half their men deserted!" Nicholas would exclaim "And the last alliance, pitiful, they don't even represent humanity or elven kind as a whole!"

Baron Fyodor Volvakov looks over his marching strelesy, reigning his horse slightly and adjusting his shashka. "Fools, these folk of dread are. For they will soon be begging for the mercy of Godani."

Chilfroy DuFonte, who has already abandoned the Dreadlands long ago, fleeing the sinking ship, would hear news of this desperate defense. "Resistance is futile. Orenia looms ever closer. If they knew what was good for them, they'd throw down their weapons and scatter."

"The Warhawkes? Don't they mean the Peacepigeons?" Questioned Dirk from Linandria, Johannesburg or Haelun'or, it varies quite a bit.

Mithius rests by the pool with a cup of wine when a herald is heard from above the estate wall. "Price on sugar rises by a mina! The bakers of Johannesburg proclaim their goods to come at a greater cost!". The elven dignitary gasps as he realizes he is already out of jamfilled pastries. "Oh no.." He whispers in cold sweat, "How can this get any worse..". The herald shouts once more and Mithius listens intently with much dread.. "Remnants from the brigand warlords of the south unite for a last stand!" The elf sighs in relief, wiping away the sweat from his face, the somewhat delirious Mithius finds peace again.

"How can you restore something that never existed?" asks Richard.

Artimec looked at the drawing which accompanied this piece of propaganda.

"But... those elves on the left, and almost all the elves of the realm fight with Oren. Even their armour looks like that of the Sirame. And they're fighting...orcs? But the orcs are on the side of the dreadlands. I am confused. Why are we being compared to orcs when they fight alongside actual orcs?"

He set out a sigh, puffing somberly at his peace pipe.

"The real alliance of men and elves is the one that comprises the largest nations of men and elves."

Damai heard of the new name of the Dreadlands, a chuckle escaping his mouth as the Sirame spoke with each other. "The so called 'elves' that are with them are not actually elves. The warhawkes are just filthy Chikr whom power issues. They are literally in it for their own greed and they will realize what a real Mali is when the Sirame come and **** 'em up.
