Background & Historical Synopsis

 

House VonSchlichten, despite its newly found status as a noble house of Oren, is in fact a house that has existed for many years. With a history stretching back to the days of Aegis, House VonSchlichten has produced some of the finest scientists, engineers, mages, doctors, lawyers, businessmen, and other intellectuals in the world. House VonSchlichten is also known for being a Hansetian noble house in Asulon, creating the famed VonSchlichtenCo of engineering in the early years of Anthos, and colonizing the Island of Gallmore after the collapse of the Imperium Primus.

 

House VonSchlichten has fluctuated in terms of power and influence over the decades, typically reaching peaks of power before collapsing, due to the death or disappearance of a valuable patriarch. Such has happened in the cases of Dietrich the III, Gustavo, Reinhardt, Saul the I, Gestahl, and Mandru VonSchlichten, ushering in periods of decline and near-extinction for the House. On at least three or four separate occasions, House VonSchlichten has dwindled down to fewer than 4 members, and even as low as two members in the case of the House’s most recent decline following Mandru’s death.

 

However, Alastair VonSchlichten has restored the house to its former glory, a time of prosperity unseen since the days of Gallmore. Beginning his career in politics as the Chief Justice of the Crownlands, Alastair VonSchlichten proved himself to be a competent lord and a visionary in his own regard. Through the use of unorthodox methods, he has established the Viscounty of Chambery as a thriving port town, and things only continue to look up for the awakened Serpent of House VonSchlichten.

The Blade of Vostgart – Aka: ‘The Sword of Rylen’

 

The Sword of Rylen belonged to the Wizard Rylen, a powerful VonSchlichten mage who lived in Asulon. The brother of Reinhardt, Rylen enchanted this sword to “Be a light unto the Darkness”. The sword is especially effective against dark beasts, particularly those of the Dark Ones. The Patriarch of House VonSchlichten traditionally carries this sword during ceremonial occasions, and wields it in battle when need be.

The Dietrich Ring

 

The founder of House VonSchlichten, the Wizard Dietrich, made the Dietrich Ring deep in the mountains of Winterfell. It was a wedding gift to his wife, Gertrude, meant to celebrate their marriage and the beginning of a new family and life together. The patriarch of the house typically holds the ring until he’s wed, at which point the ring is entrusted to the lord’s wife. Every VonSchlichten patriarch and matriarch has proposed with the ring, and his or her spouse has traditionally worn the ring throughout their marriage. It sparkles with an almost magical glint, and there is a rumor amongst members of the House that the Ring may have been cursed following Reinhardt's demise... Although this is far from certain, and is in fact dismissed as a myth used by more superstitious House members to explain the three failed marriages of Mandru VonSchlichten.

The Medal of the Hero

 

 

The Medal of the Hero belonged to Mandru Kaecillius VonSchlichten, an award that he was given for his brave defense of Von Hill by Saul VonSchlichten in the olden days of VonSchlichtenCo. It is said that the medal was blessed by the Itharel Forsenti, and that whoever wears it is filled with an extreme sense of honor, duty, and bravery.

The Masterwatch

 

 

The Masterwatch that used to belong to Mandru VonSchlichten is a watch that tells the second, minute, hour, month, moon and sun phases, day of the year, and year itself. The superb timepiece has only two sister watches reported, one of which is an heirloom of House Blackwell, an Orenian noble house which has been missing since the days of the Imperium Tertius. The other, much younger sister watch was crafted several years ago by Rosalyn VonSchlichten as a personal gift to His Imperial Majesty John III Owyn Horen. The most direct descendant of Mandru holds the Masterwatch in his possession, whether or not he serves as house patriarch or lord.
