THE IMPERIAL FUNERAL & CORONATION
Issued and confirmed by His Excellency the Minister of the Interior Sylvestre II of Artois, 13th of
Deep Cold, 1585.

Requiescat in pace, Ioannes III.

On this fateful eve, it is with much sorrow that on behalf of our exalted imperial administration I announce the death of our glorious emperor, John III the Magnanimous. John III reigned with diligence and honor, leading his people to glory and prosperity. He will be forevermore remembered as a paragon of virtue, and saint among men. A true hero of his people, he will not soon be forgotten.

Our late emperor was tricked by a mali'aheral savage, a treacherous descendant of Malin. The high elf, turned to dark arts and unholy feats, used his evil magics to lure the emperor into a room with a turncoat guard, before summarily ending his blessed life on those hallowed stones. When the court did not hear from the emperor, and set off throughout the palace, they were too late.

It is thusly that the imperial administration announce two events:

  • JOHN III'S FUNERAL [SATURDAY @ 6 PM EST]
Our late emperor will receive a funeral befitting someone of his magnificence and majesty. All nobles of the realm, particularly those of the great houses Barbanov, Ashford, and d'Amaury are expected to be in attendance to mourn the emperor. All Orenians are invited, as well, and expected to wear black. His Holiness the Pontiff Theodosius II is likewise invited to attend so as to provide the proper rites.

  • JOHN IV'S CORONATION [SUNDAY @ 1 PM EST]
The esteemed crown prince, John IV Augustus, shall hitherto reign as emperor of our holy empire. A ceremony to celebrate his impending reign shall be had posthaste. All nobles, from the lowest knight to the highest duke, are expected to be in attendance so as to swear our great emperor the fealty he is due as the rightful sovereign of mankind. Additionally, His Holiness the Pontiff Theodosius II will coronate our holy emperor. A feast and other such celebrations will be held after his imperial majesty is crowned.

In the coming weeks, all should mourn our late sire. Black clothes ought to be worn; candles ought to be lit; respect ought to be paid. John III the Magnanimous was an august and honorable ruler, and his dedication to man's success deserves nothing but the utmost recognition from his people. His assailants will face the wrath of all mankind; those who dared to lift a sword against his late imperial majesty shall find the weight of ten hundred thousand swords upon them. May he rest in peace, and may God deliver our holy empire to heights previously unforeseen under the oversight of our new and wise liege...

The emperor is dead. Long live the emperor. Ave Orenia. Ave John IV.

IN NOMINE DEI,

His Excellency, the Minister of the Interior Sylvestre II of House Halcourt, ser of Artois and Crown Knight of the Imperium Quintus

"To think the same elf did in the high elves by a human's blade both times, and technically lived through it. I should be glad that coup failed, lest I would be gassed as my former kindred will be. A shame I didn't have a chance to loose that arrow sooner," mutters Lysio as he reads over the poster.

"Bad things happen in threes. That's just how it goes." A lump forms in Ser Rakim's throat as the news reaches him. Perhaps he shouldn't have went west, the guilty knight thought to himself but he dared not say it aloud.
