Next Map Idea

I’m not quite sure where I’d post this idea, but I still wanted to share it and see what others thought of it.

I was thinking that instead of having a map change where everyone gets on a boat and leaves to another land, everyone is forced to go underground for some deadly reason and live in a large cave that’d be the size of a map for an irl year.

There could be a whole new variety of interesting plants, roleplay situations, events, and it’d be something new and hopefully interesting to others.  Something that could be done with lighting is aesthetically pleasing cavern plants like glowing mushrooms, moss, or a new race of trees and grass that have their own dim, mysterious, and colorful glow.  There could also perhaps be crystals to do that.  There could be new creatures, or people could have the power and chance to attempt to save some of their cattle and other animals to live in the large cavern with them so we won’t go a year without them.

There could be sections of the cave where there’s magma, or a section where it’d appear to lead beneath a frozen ocean so the ceiling is all thicc ice and that particular region is cold and perhaps have some snow, somehow.

Got this idea a little off from Skyrim in this cave (It’s just a thought on what it could possibly look like, but perhaps not too much of that mystical light) -

Another thing where I got this idea from is the world’s largest cave, Son Doong -

I disagree with a whole world, but look at the current map-spread. Tahn became the RP site for 95% the politics with Asul abandoned and Ceru being Sutica's realm. I reckon a Tahn-sized map split in two due to lag reasons would be awesome, and one of those worlds could be made an underground one.

EG, have 1 continent, with surface & caves next map, for split-world-lag-reduction.

disagreed. This current map is actually pretty good and even if we did move it'd be pretty bad being underground.

If the entire map was underground the dwarves would reign supreme over everyone else cos...y'know. They live underground.

I have two problems with an underground cave map,

A, can you imagine WCs? Any siege would be near impossible and any skirmish would just be like fighting in a narrow tube. It would make combat so hard for any attacker.

B, Sadly you can't really World Paint the interior of Caves so all of the decoration and forestry would have to be done via Voxel/World Edit or by hand. Which would take the rather small list of builders a lengthy time.

I do generally agree that Axios is just to large. As much as I and the rest of the Suticans like having our whole own continent away from everyone else it doesn't change the fact we only use up like half of Ceru and then there's so much space left empty on Tahm not to mention Asul. It's a shame really since in my opinion Ceru/Asul got very nice terrain and tahm no offense to those who live there but the landscape is generally very ugly... and everything is so spread out.

I feel like that in a new map it should be similar to 3.0 (In terms of terrain design) but with several changes like slightly smaller, so around 5 or 6k blocks across (That's like 2k more blocks then Athera for scale) Along with a CT/Spawn/Whatever we call it now that's central but we keep the no pvp zone to just the temple/building or whatever.  The map shouldn't be so large that we need Fast Travels. Fast Travels are bad across the board but when we're on maps like Valior or Axios they're the only way to make it's scale passable in terms of actually being able to move around.

While the idea is awesome, I don't think it'll be possible. A whole underground cave for a realm will instantly be taken over by dwarves, and people will start to try and get above ground.

While your idea sounds cool and all, there's the small problem of... It being impossible to efficiently create an underground region that large with the tools we have currently. I work with both WorldPainter and MCEdit and it's really difficult to set those kinds of things up easily. WorldPainter can't do foliage or terrain in caves, and MCEdit is pretty poopy at pasting schematics let me tell you what. It'd boil down to being hand-crafted, which isn't bad, but... Unrealistic for the span of an entire continent in any reasonable amount of time.
