A Witch Departs

The armored figure climbs slowly over the frozen hills, gripping a knapsack tightly over its shoulder. It ascends the worn stone stairs of the ruined cathedral in silence, approaching an old wall caked in frost. It extends an armored hand, brushing a rock aside and inserting a small ornate key into a hidden slot. The wall slides open, and the figure slips inside. Its hands lift, unclipping its helmet and shaking its hair out.

Lumia paces through the old halls, footsteps echoing quietly. She descends, before stopping in front of a frozen metal door and pushing it open. She scans the room, bags and packed things resting on the table. The Witch sets her bag down on the table, before moving into the side room, changing into simple travelling clothes. Her form shimmers with a sigh, pale icy white skin appearing tanned and human. Her eyes lose their glow, appearance remaining otherwise the same. She shoulders her pack, reaching underneath the bed and removing a box, sliding it inside before entering the main room, glancing to the other figure present in the room with a smile, “Ready to go?”

In the quiet afternoon, the pair approach a camp in the woods, arcane odds and ends strewn about on the table. Lumia sets her shouldered bags down on the table, head turning with a sad smile. She practically sprints to Avenel, embracing him with a tight hug. They exchange words, goodbyes, before Avenel extends an ornately engraved cube to Janos. Lumia steps back over to pick up her things, offering Avenel a smile and a wave as she takes Janos’ hand. The cube hums with arcane energy, engravings glowing bright, before the pair vanish with a crackling hiss, never to be seen again.

And just like that, Lumia, woman of a hundred names and faces, WolfMother, last of Brunhylde’s brood, and once Lord of unsightly things, was gone.

In places elsewhere, few might find letters left in places for them.

@Thomas

In the Library of Dragur, a small note would be left on the table in the center kiosk, next to a sealed letter, the note would read, “My time spent here was pleasant, thank you. Please see that this letter gets to Crumena. ~Elisande” The sealed letter would read: “Crumena, I wish I could have gotten to know you better, but I am unfortunately leaving. I’m sure Avenel could tell you just about anything you’d want to know. Good luck, and stay sane, ~Lumia”

In a cold and quiet castle, a note would be left on the large throne.

“Akhortep, when many other Lords were cruel to me, or attempted to manipulate me, you were harsh but fair and kind. I wish you the best of luck in your endeavors, but I must sadly be going.

Please be merciful to my daughters, and take care of Mabel.”

((Lumia was my character for a super long time and I wanted to get some closure on what happened to her. I’m too much of a softie to just PK and it would’ve felt sad and out of the blue. I think she deserved a happy ending, in spite of it. I hope everyone enjoyed interacting with her at least half as much as I enjoyed playing her. Cheers.))

She will find new hope in other worlds; He, she - they do not die, they only go about their own devices. The scroll garbed creature drones out to none in particular, shifting its alien mask along the forest and encampment. I will see them again, I always do... hopefully soon. What happened next remains unknown, but the figure reverted to its fleshy form - only to ponder and reminisce about his Janos, his brother, and Lumia - his close friend, and a wife to his brother. While they may be separated, the world does not stop the voidmind. It is there, ever present and growing. Their thoughts connected by the power.

The husk reads the letter, only to nod once. You will be missed, Lumia. I'll do as you say... though Mabel and my heart will always come first."

Ilene would hold the letter within her icy grasp, looking down with a sigh.

"You were too good to us, to us all... You taught my mother to be who so is, and by default who I am as well. I wish I would've had the time to thank you... Godspeed, Grandma Lumia."

The forsaken witch found herself sitting against a rough patch of ice. In her hands, was a plain-looking box. She spoke no words. She couldn't. She didn't know what to say. These were the trying times in which Sif would allow Lumia to speak on her behalf.

Such a legend couldn't pass so idly with the wind. The witch absconded, leaving a conversational partner alone in the biting winds. Spiraling up the Witches' spire, Sif halted herself within her cousin's room, staring straight into the glacial wall where past lessons had been carved. So many talks... So many scoldings... So many teachings... How could it all be gone? How could it be left to someone so unfit to take her mantle? She couldn't compare. She never would live up to the name.

"You taught me everything, Lumia. When Mother left me, I stood without guidance, and it was you that formed so much of what stands today. I may have never been good at idle chatter, or relating to you, or sharing what I truly saw you as, but Lumia... You were so much more a mother to me than She ever was. I owe my existence to you. Forgive all my offhanded comments. Forgive my foolish acts for your attention. Forgive all the errors I made that you had to clean up. It feels so wrong... Just to continue existing without your guidance."

"Lumia... I loved you."

The greaves of a certain witch would click upon the icy floor she walked upon.

"Et ist of the difficult not to feel her absence, no?" She'd spoken aloud, in brutish words, toward one of her kin.

Slowly, a frown began to tug the corners of her lips downward before she'd commence: sobbing.

Andri raises a glass of wine for the departed witch. "At least you don't have to deal with these ascended shenanigans anymore, Lumia."

After a long day of writing and working at the Dragur Library, Ralnor notices a small envelope left on the center table. He would pick the letter up and read the contents of the envelope.

"I will see that this letter gets to Crumena posthaste." he'd state to no one in particular, before heading off to find Crumena.

An adventuresome high elf continues to make his way to the Library of Dragur periodically, hoping to see his mother behind the desk, or his father wandering about. As time passes, he begins to wonder just what has happened to them.

Nym's gaze scanned over the piece of parchment that lay between her fingertips, her eyes gradually beginning to widen as she inhaled deeply, her icy grip tightly wrapping around the note as she promptly crumpled it and allowed it to gently sail to the frigid lands below. The Fja's chin fell as she painfully swallowed, her breathing becoming more labored and grim, as she slowly turned facing her mother whom stood completely still in the corner of the room. "Stay strong, dear." the wise mother rasped out through her metallic visor, though within moments, the young maiden of ice moved to dash forth and eliminate the distance between the two, then promptly moving to wrap her arms around her mother in a tight embrace. She buried her face into her shoulder as tears began to steadily stream down her face, her loud sobs echoing throughout the gelid cavern, only another sign of the departure of a dear friend.
