What is wrong with magic?

The thing is to know when to PK a character, PK'ing characters when they die can be incredibly stupid if the cause of death was bandit roleplay or a large group of white-knights/edgies hunting you down. There has to be a valid and dramatic reason behind an RP death, if there isn't it just becomes stupid. The same applies with old age, if the person left behind a legacy then that's usually when old age makes sense, otherwise having some old peasant farmer that hasn't even conceived children let alone accomplished anything to PK from old age creates no effect once or ever. It kills the RP potential and nothing else.

As for magic, the issue with magic isn't immortality created through magic as just like I stated above a PK should occur when there's a good reason for it. The issue with magic is that people use it as an excuse to powergame. If you're character is actually that powerful then you should avoid combat, period. A high tier blood mage or necromancer for example would avoid combat and instead uses their ghouls to do their bidding, a druid should be the same. Don't fight unless you have to, if you're a mage that goes around creating fights and you PG along the way then you are part of the problem. The only people that should even have an excuse to be somewhat OP in RP combat are people who roleplay the roles of antagonists and whom generate roleplay through said villainy and that still has restrictions. IE, you can't kill an entire group of people. A smart villain/antagonist wouldn't need to resort to RP combat, they should be manipulative enough to avoid it.

We also have whiteknights/edgelords that go about hunting everything that is villainous in large groups of 5-10 white knights at a time. The same can be said with certain spooks too, they go around in PVP and RP goon squads hunting and killing everything in sight with their magic/creature RP. It's disgusting and it has to stop, it gives those few of us that actually try to be good magic roleplayers a bad name.

Why are people going 'Voidal magic bad' and stuff, I mean last time I checked, Clerics mostly go around place to place warding undead out just for lols, Dark magic recently was just raising tonnes of undead, Shamanism I've hardly seen with the 3 or so users, and even then it's mostly fighting or smithing weapons, which benefit fighting...

Magic has always had the combat attitude to it, Frost Witches, Shades, Necromancy, Blood Magic, Electric Evocation, Paladin/Cleric stuff. It's how the world works.

And even then it's not the magic that is at fault, it's the users, everyone here is blaming it on the magic when it's not the magic's fault, it's those who use the magic that are the cause of your problems, I mean yeesh...

It is the users that are at fault so the question isn't why magic is "bad" but why these bad magic users haven't been blacklisted from their respective magics and why their teachers haven't been scorned and possibly investigated/removed from the teaching lists.

Because no-one reports them

Mostly because people who do malpractice magic do it on those who don't understand how it works

I mean

**T5 Electric Evoker 2 emotes a spell on an armoured target**
**Hey you can't do that!**
**I'm a T5, Trust me I can**
**Oh...Okay**

Here's a suggestion, understand every single magic so you know when people misuse it

Or even better, when something seems shifty, take it up to an MT

When my character began to learn water evocation he was a bit crappy at it and so fighting with it wasn't really an option, however that didn't mean he didn't get into fights. One time in the dominion a large olog picked him up and wanted to eat his face, so my character used his water evo to make a small little droplet of water to try and distract him from eating his face.

This was fun

combat rp is the worst kind of rp out there. magic shouldn't focus on it.

Blame the players and not the magic. As some suggested, staff should crack down on the players abusing the magic system, not the magic system abusing the players.

You're right, the magic blacklist section is empty: https://www.lordofthecraft.net/forums/forum/584-magic-blacklist/

In fact, no one has had a magic blacklist since JULY OF LAST YEAR..

I know I'm right, I'm a T5 illusion T5 water and T3 or smthing Electric

Basically:
T5 Illusion: Iffy on cans and cant's, clarified well in lore and guide however the borderlines are shifty and the limitations too

T5 Water: Currently making lore+clarifications because before that, there's nothing. An outdated guide from 2012 which has no tell and stuff

T3 Electric: Oh gosh don't start me off.

So if a group has irp reasoning to kill magic users who participate in necromancy for example it is ‘disgusting’ and they shouldn’t be roleplaying properly?

It wouldn't result in a PK, no. An angry mob forming at a local cemetary to lynch the local necromancer will never result in the necromancer Pk'ing assuming they even get to him/her. The person has to leave an actual legacy behind in order to feel the need to PK to begin with, without that legacy there's no reason to PK. Simply being killed in RP isn't a valid reason to PK, especially if the reason isn't very specific and is simply "grr necromancy grr".

Shamnism, Celestialism, & Necromancy are what I believe to be the best examples of depth of magic. Each heavily encourage player communication & cooperation and are really only going to be fun for the caster if you are creating interesting roleplay to see. They are powerful, but also ritualistic, & complex enough to keep motivated players busy.

Shamanism and celestialism i can see, recently with necromancy someone legit was spam making ghouls out their ass so yeah, 'community'

If we got rid of all magics and basically reset lotc that'd be nice and thx, or get rid of archons and tree lords and keepers, because all of them are just powercreeps tbh.

Nothing happens if you don't report it.
