New Player Data

For this month the race with the most new players is humans with 46.8% directly followed by elves at 32.7%. A common theme amongst new players is to not choose a specific sub race unless playing an elven character, this month snow elves were the most common sub race to be chosen at 35.3% of elven applications. Please refer to the data shown below.

February had brought in a total of 152 applications total, this concluded to a 55.5% acceptance rate and a 44.5% denial rate. This is lower than previous months but this month we have welcomed a new application system which came with its trials and errors. Majority of our new accepted players are American players taking a total 66.3%, followed by European players at 29.4%, leaving Oceanic players with a 4.4%.

Team Data

This month was incredibly productive. Once again we have received a new application process as well as had an event which brought up voting referring many new applicants to us. Not only have most of the team been able to hit quota, but we have received so many applicants some new members of the team have been able to hit quota with four days to spare. This month’s King of quota is actually a Queen, claimed by Cosmetology. Cosmetology was closely followed by IronLich with Auric_Saint and Cornivore following right after him.

Additional Information

Currently we have quite a few projects going on as last month they were put on hold due to map change. We have a new player video coming that will go through the application process. This is currently in script stage and we hope to produce it to you soon. The new player discord is being updated day to day. New helper applications are soon to go live, keep your eyes peeled if this interests you. The final project we have to discuss is the tailors guild. The tailors guild is currently being reworked and discussed with administration.

An adequate representation of what it feels like seeing a multitude of applications roll in, one after the other at 4:00 AM when you have work at 8:00 AM.

Spoiler

March is AT Fitness Month. For each day that we have 5+ applications come through I will run a mile. I'm challenging my other teammates to do something similar.

Rukio also convinced me to do 30 sit up for every single app.

Look at these spicy numbers, it’s a shame that half of the “halfling” applications were just half-elves though.

Sky knows how I feel about this, but it seems a close eye needs to be kept on exactly how effective this new system is working, and whether guest applications are really necessary for the server to grow. 152 applications is not a very large number compared to other recent months, and almost half of that total being denied is rather alarming. I don't blame this on the Director or any of the AT, but rather an obvious flaw in the application system itself. Different factors need to be looked into to determine the main problem. One thing to note is that guest applications cannot be placed on pending currently- an issue that clearly needs to be amended. Is it possible info could be released on how many of these denials are from guest applications alone?

On another note, welcome to the team new people. Hope you have lots of fun helping out newbies.

I think the higher denied number is simply a result of us having more visibility. Previously if our new players has to do some pretty specific searches to find us. So they were more likely to be have experience with the roleplay culture. Now that we are more "mainstream" we're more likely to run into players that have not roleplayed before and are encountering this scene for the first time.

I flat out disagree. The fact that we can't place Guest applicants on pending is a major pitfall and simply leads to more denials because the majority of applicants do not get it right on the first try. Now typically we'd be able to guide them through their mistakes with a simple PM or a Pending status but that is not possible with Guests.

That all said, having the Guest feature is still a positive one and is clearly one of the major factors that led us to having significantly more applicants and applications this month.

I'm not sure the guest issue is something we can fix. How do we allow guests to edit? We have no way of verifying that it is indeed the same person without an account. IPs aren't a reliable authentication method. They're easily spoofed and change quite often if you have a dynamic ip

I'm not confident there is a way to fix it and that wasn't the intent of my post, I was rather disagreeing with your comment that the primary reason that we had so many denials was because some of the new applicants may not have had a Roleplay background.

I went back and had a look at the numbers. December saw 113. January saw 108. While this month saw 152.

I suppose I was thinking about average numbers throughout the past year rather than just the past couple months.

June- 143 apps. 76% accepted.
July- 148 apps. 75% accepted.
August- 164 apps. 80% accepted.
September- 130 apps. 67% accepted.
October- 106 apps.  79% accepted.
November- 95 apps. 83% accepted.

There was a dip in applicants around the end of Axios, but the numbers speak for themselves. The results this month are completely out of the ordinary, as far as denial rate goes. I've haven't seen one this high the entire time I've been playing on the server. Gaining players through voting couldn't be the cause of it.

I don't think it's fair to compare summer numbers to February. On top of being a shorter month, we had a week outage on the forums. So no applications that week.

I do agree that the denied number are a major anomaly. But as jandy said, it's probably down to guest applications. Maybe give them their own category instead of counting them as regular denied? I'd like to see the numbers not including guests

Every month counts. I merely used the ones I could find because I wrote them. So summer into late fall, and you provided the rest on your initial post. It's more so a comparison to number of applications and the percentage accepted than as result, rather than the flow of total applications which certainly will increase with this system in place and more players voting. I'm not saying anything negative about the extra exposure, the voting campaign is going wonderfully.

Many of these apps were probably the same guests applying multiple times after their initial denial, due to lack of assistance from AT members. (again, not that they can help it.) Only thing that could possibly counter this issue right now is having AT direct denied guests to the New Player Discord or simply giving out their discord contact info. I do agree that that there could be a separate category created and to not clump them in with apps linked to forum accounts. But if applying as a guest proves to almost always result in a denial, things might have to be changed. Time will tell.

Before the voting boost most applications came from friend referrals. Friend referrals are huge for us and obviously when you have a friend on the server he/she will help you getting the app right the first time. People coming from voting websites do not have this help.

The current app format has a few "gotcha" questions that new applicants generally fall for the first time around.

There's still a lot of work to be done for us Devs regarding recruitment and such. We will keep on it for march and beyond.
