We have ideas and projects. One of my projects specifically is to gather feedback on new player integration from the community, hence this thread. The intention with the thread was to have people throw in ideas like they’re doing.

Right now the most prominent damage to your server is not new player retention but old player retention. Two servers popping up and a third syphoning players.

You are betting on newcomers who may or may not stick around where you are losing dozens of players who have led nations, co-led organisations, made videos of the server and wrote part of your lore.

Get your **** together.

I think the Application Team whould closely together with the Event Team to give Players their first Plot. Something that many Players miss (which was already discussed in this thread) is a proper place to start, or proper Things to start with…

So, a good friend of mine said: “Be the Change you want to happen”. So I’m eager to help any AT with new Players with an Event out!

Not everyone roleplays in their racial areas.

the best thing for new players is to tell them not to play on the server

This. Also make apps harder to get in. 1 lore ref and barely a paragraph? Jeez fellas, now a three year old can get in.

I agree with Sloth and Dingo, Racial Spawns would be nice and very helpful for new players. Otherwise it seems people just run around CT until someone whispers them or manages to recruit them. Dropping them in their racial capital might work wonders in making new players feel comfortable and not so ostracized off the bat.

And I agree with Sloth again. 1 Lore ref and a single paragraph (paragraph being used loosely) is not a very extensive application, and quite easy to BS. As a result people with an abysmal grasp of the English language get in, which I think looks bad for everyone from Server Owner, to the AT, to the players. I think holding new players to higher standards would do wonders for the quality of RP.

Finally, I think updated and more easy to find new payer guides would be wonderful. Information is scattered, outdated and minimalist.

The best way to find out what keeps new players around is to find out what kept YOU on this server despite it being a pretty hard server to get involved in at first. For me, what kept me on the server was @bahbou123456 taking me under his wing, which led me to join the halfling settlement he made called “Mellsburry”. From there I stuck with the halflings even after bahbou123456 left and have been a halfling main ever since.

Therefore, judging from my own experience, I think that the best way to keep new players around is to have a more experienced player take them under their wing.

This is also a big issue. I’m in the discord of one of these new start up servers, and the new server’s staff are almost all ex-LoTCers. The worst bit is that these new servers aren’t even dying instantly anymore, which doesn’t bode well for LoTC. Clearly there’s something wrong with LoTC that is causing these people to leave and do their own thing. It would be a good idea for the LoTC staff to figure out what those issues are with the server and fix them ASAP.

Less rules for roleplay and more opportunities and diveristy for the little newbies to have fun with I say. And I agree with @iMattyz ‘s thoughts on new player integration into the community through groups and nations, and would like to add on more specifically (if not already specified by mattyz)  on guilds themselves, and that on the first note that more choice, diversity and freedom in the guild/group for the new player means a wider roleplay audience.

Plus making villain rules and rp examples/scenarios more visible on the forums would be beneficial too as it’d be easier to take reference to, additionally being less lenience on rulebreakers as a whole due to the easy access of the page(s).

Not much a player anymore but I think this would help.

Moved to The Great Library. It shall be sorted into the appropriate category shortly.

If you feel this is a mistake, please contact myself or any FM and we'll restore it.
