The Murder of Mars

Spoiler

It was a simple visit, an act of good faith between the Children of Horen and the Mali’Thill. A bloodbath it became as the Imperial envoy which had come on a peaceful mission was mercilessly killed. Marcus de Rubrum had been called to the Silver State, where he was told that the savages of Irrinor had threatened to kill the peaceful diplomats they had sent. He, intending to keep the good relations of the Silver State and Oren alive, would deliver the missive for them. He would keep humanity’s end of the bargain.

Upon his arrival to Irrinor, he was met with immediate hostility. He was there to deliver a simple message. He, who did not come to war, but to talk- was killed. He, who had visited not even a Saint’s Week earlier to begin peaceful relations- was killed. He, who wanted to live- was killed. He had only talked to his twin sister the night prior, he had told her about the woman he was growing to love. His sister had taken him in and gave him a home. The hard life was all he had known, he was born a bastard to Romulus of Cascadia. He was not given the same luxury his brothers had been. So he decided he would work to improve his life. The Lord Protector, Adrian de Sarkozy, had sought him out and asked him to join his council, and Marcus agreed. It was his ticket out. He would serve as his Secretary of Foreign Affairs and would be the Empire’s personal representative when traveling abroad.

When he reached the gates of Irrinor, he was met with aggression. After delivering the missive, the savage elves charged at him. He did not come to fight so he did not bring a huge escort. Mars was brutally murdered by elves, and his life cut short.

He came a man on a peaceful mission…

He died a martyr...

“It is BEYOND embarrassing that the MALI’AHERAL, after having their envoys expelled from our city, sought to INTIMIDATE us with their Imperial masters! Whether we win or lose in the war to come, the sons and daughters of Irrin will enter the eternal forest as honourable warriors. Live or die, we will NEVER submit to the rule of the mali’ata.”

Artimec raised his tomahawk, and violently buried it upon a pillar in the forest throne. It would not be dislodged until the war was over.

“Do Thou, O Lord, have mercy on our dearly departed, for the sake of us sinners all who greatly hope and trust in Thee.” Vespira Antonia recited, preparing her black silks for her allotted three weeks of mourning. “For Thy mercy can turn bittering weeping to joyous fanfare, for Thou alone judgeth the living and the dead.” Crossing herself, she sat silently. With eyes flashing, she mulled over the loss, and the consequences it brings.
