All Apologies

To the subjects of the Holy Orenian Empire & soldiers of the state,

I, Sir Adrian Leopold, come to write a formal apology to the fine General of the ISA: General Alren DeNurem and all soldiers of the state, who I disappointed during the night of the aggression between the nordling and the orenians. As someone who is looked up upon by many in the military, I wavered in my actions and showed a rebellious attitude that formulated a harsh, yet justifiable, punishment. Upon writing this letter, I am no longer a Lieutenant nor do I serve under my comrades within the 4th Brigade -- simply put, I made a foolish decision that showed my unworthiness to stand near His Imperial Majesty. My time of servitude has shown dignified loyalty and self-sacrifice to the Empire, a brotherly relationship with the people who worked alongside me and a vigorous amount of time pumped into worshiping this state. Though, I threw it all out over a minuscule matter which caused these harsh repercussions to fall on me. Hence, I write to address the elephant in the bastille:

I sincerely apologize to the people I worked with. The 4th Brigade is the closest pair of soldiers I have worked alongside with. They have worked incredibly hard and I sullied their name through my selfish acts. Even attempting to have one of the prestige fighters of this state, Sir Oskar, join under me through the events that proceed. Unlike me, Sir Oskar was the bigger man and heed the commands of his general, unlike I who continued to ignore. A good friend who has exuded more loyalty in that focal point than I have in years. I’d also like to show my regrets to the soldiers who saw me as a heroic figure, took under my wing, and followed my commands in numerous battles. I also idolized numerous generals and commanders in my childhood, and if I heard of their rebellious stories, it would have struck my heart like steel. Nobody in service deserves to look up to me, it is quite the opposite. I should look up to everyone in our imperial army, from the privates to the officers, who served for years without hindering thought or ignoring our fair legislations and hierarchy. I have failed this nation in that regard.

To the General of the Imperial State Army, I also formally write a section of this apology to you -- I caused the issue to explode more than it should have. You attempted to take hostage of the hostility and dim out the fires, something I respect. On the contrary, my actions caused the flames to roar, to shake violently, and burn those near me. It was not my attempt to do so, and when I ignored your commands, I saw the face of a man who saw deep sadness at the fall of a soldier. In my years of service, I have not been under someone as fair, as fine and strong as General Alren DeNurem. I always see you pump in hours on end in order to have the most prestigious military across the continent. I wasted your time by having you deal with me when you could have dealt with more pressing matters. I do not expect you to accept this apology, and even if I never return to a glorified state, I will see you as one of those idols.

There is nothing more to say besides my foolishness. To anyone who reads this, do not do as I did.

The Right Honorable Sir Adrian Roussard, Baron of Roussard, KCL

Adrian Leopold

Sir Adrian would receive the following message from a humble orenian:

To the Right Honorable Baron of Roussard:

When a mistake is done a wise man changes his mind and does his best to fix it and to move on just as Lord Roussard has done with publicly sending this letter to the Nation.

My lord, you don’t need to worry, all your heroic deeds and all your hard-work that you’ve done for the Ninth Empire won’t be forgotten by a single mistake like this one. You’ve proven through all this time to be a leal subject of His Imperial Majesty and I don’t think this will change anything, especially after your sinceer apologize in this letter.

Finally, thank you for having the courage to write this letter and stating that you’ll still do your best for the Imperial State. I’m pretty sure it really means a lot for many orenians and for your colleagues of the Imperial State Army.

Sincerely,

Your friend Edward Williams

“Dear brother, it is right reason that separates men from animals. It is what separates us from the barbarians, the villains. In the absence of such, our habits must guide. Work to your habits. You must make a habit out of these things; this is what I’ve sought to instill in you all our lives.”

A note would be found by Adrian at some point, delivered by a Eagle Owl. No one else would see said note unless given it by Adrian.

Thank you, old friend. You did what you could and what you thought was right. They will tell you that orders are everything, that we should obey each without question. They are wrong, not all orders are made equal, as every man is not made equal.

Nyseia reads the letter before frowning deeply,

“A soldier follows orders. A soldier shouldn’t need to apologize.”

“Ah, the “brave” and “noble” elf takes the high ground once more. What more would I expect?” Asks Sir Rylan Swint as he sips on some wine.

“You already lost this argument when you made it about race, valah.” Ruathar chuckles at the dumbfounded response, continuing on with his day.

“You’ve clearly never met Nyseia. You lost the argument you weren’t even part of when you decided to be an idiot and assume it was about the race instead of the individual, you low wit ‘ker.”

“If one must drop so low as to question others intellect with infantile slurs, it shows who really is the adult. Come to Renelia, we’ll see if you’re as brave with your words then, valah.” He’d cackle at the frail response of this foreigner.

”Strange how he was supposedly going on about his day....and now questions who the adult is and then says we’ll settle it by fighting. Come now, ‘ker, even you can see how amusing this is. Oh, and I’m an elf, since you seem so fixated on race.” Lily would roll her eyes, cringing.

“You said that, my thought was more of debate. Seeing as your mind is already set, maybe you should just sit down and stop talking, since you clearly do not care for your own people, and would gladly stand for the derogatory comments against those you should call kinsmen. So here’s a little something from me taken from your own mouth. You are an imbecile and a fool. Let’s end this here, since all you’re looking for is a fight. I am done talking to you, kathir. The ‘ker shook his head and walked to his home. “hae'leh kalem'Valah yallre” He’d mutter as he enters his home.

”By gods, the mali’ker truly are a subspecies.” She would go back to sipping her tea, chuckling at the volatile response from someone who had supposedly been walking away.
