The Holocron & Lexicon

Preface

Notes of Kalameet Izalith bore testament to an odd creation. Stones and structures, documenting in ways never imagined to our kin. Revisiting moments in a near-lifelike projection. Lexicons, as called, acted as books with eyes and ears. Small gemstones laced with heathnic, voidal enchantments that recorded its surrounding sounds, sights, and optionally text. Offering a dim glow with and nothing else. Only when combined with a structure hereby dubbed a Holocron would this jem show use. Straddled upon a pedestal and configured by one of material knowledge is when the jem inserted would begin to project these pre-recorded visions.

As time bore entropy, these notes fell to nonexistance. Only recently have those blessed with knowledge of invention rediscovered this object and played it within use. In their fruition shall this discovery return.

Creation

Forthright, a lexicon must be made tangible before none else. A lectern without it’s book is meaningless and simple decoration. Seek out a focal crystal and refine such with any means upon one’s hands. Shape is at will, so long it may not reach and larger than a human fist. Larger would prove too taxing upon one’s individual to constantly maintain. Secondly, lace the ethereal gem in a casing of either Arcaurum or Arcanium of one’s choice design; so long as it makes fused contact with the foci. Here, the physical constructs are complete for a Lexicon. Following, a character of extensive knowledge within the arts of Transfiguration and Illusion sould step forth. The mage imbues the Lexicon with a lace of enchantments that will be accepting receiving ends of what it’s wielder sees, hears, and reads. Following then, the creation is complete. A simple, rudimentary object in the eyes of experts in comparison to other feats. The gem will pool passively from it’s wielder and should never require a taxing amount of life if produced correctly. Or if further described, it may be activated and deactivated at will.

To further complexity, a Holocron casing is to be constructed for projection of these stored illusionary thoughts and concepts. First and foremost, this construct feeds deeply upon mana; requiring the base of a Voidalistic Obelisk as it’s core. Structure upon and around, lays further enchantments. A hypothetical additional mage that receives what is stored upon the Lexicon and projects it to the surrounding presence akin to an Illusionist’s art of mockery. The following structures around the obelisk is at discretion, so long as the make contains receptive materials for enchantments and receptive functions.

Function

Akin to relays, the use of both these Holocrons and Lexicons is rather rudimentary. Lexicon alone requires little to no monitoring upon creation and can simply sit upon a necklace, a belt, or a hand held object. For the Holocron, to activate it, a Transfigurationist must place the Lexicon upon its desired pedestal. They then shall establish connection to the veil, channeling forth their art upon the construct. Given they know of the contents of this Lexicon, the mage may now coax forth the stored instances, projecting them through the Holocron as either an image, sound, and/or book of information to its recipients. In the case of images and sounds, errors may produce upon itself. Static-like buzzing, monochrome colors, etc. But in relativity, the conjured projections are relatively clear.

Redlines

  • Both the Holocron and Lexicon may only be crafted by those who are proficient in Illusion and Transfiguation. This too, knowledge or adequate invention RP is required to create these two objects. To use, only a Transfigurationist is required to operate the Holocron.

  • A Lexicon will always emit a dull hue of its creator’s aura and a small, barely noticeable hum.

  • Lexicons require an MC item for presentation and ST signage.

  • Holocrons require an MC build to be functional.

  • The contents of a Lexicon cannot be altered upon insertion.

  • A Lexicon is not an endless storage of information. The Lexicon will only retain information that goes back one (1) IRL month. In the case of written information, there is no limitation due to the information simply only being words.

  • Lexicons and Holocrons are subject to be destroyed given the means and are too susceptible to Abjuration.

  • All projections from the Holocron follow the Sensory Illusion lore.

  • Lexicons and Holocrons must adhere to death rules. The Lexicon does not record it’s users death.

Spoiler

A neat little piece of invention lore I’ve always looked fondly over. Figured I take another gander on something a bit more simple. I haven’t written LoTC **** for roughtly a year and appreciate further ideas, criticisms, etc.

you can already do this. i mean its cool, but i think a lore submission is kinda pointless.
