As long as there has been an Empire, there has been an Othaman to fight its battles. For generations, the Othamans were a simple smallfolk family that toiled the land and fought with their lords in battle. After the Exodus period in Anthos following Emperor Horen’s reign, Godfrey’s successor, the Northern lands of the Empire were less populated than years past since the departure of the Teutonic Order. It was an Othaman by the name of Jon that joined the settling party there under the Kingdom of Herendul.

Jon, born as a nomad merchant traveling the roads to sell goods with his mother throughout the continent, eventually stumbled upon the Kingdom of Herendul. Recruited by the Crown Prince of Herendul Jon began his military career with the Winterguard, the army of the Kingdom of Herendul. He quickly ascended through the ranks, obtaining the second in command position. However, the Kaptain of the Winterguard was the Crown Prince of Herendul, and seeking to continue to prove himself to the Kingdom, Jon petitioned for a joint plan to the King of Herendul and the Emperor.

Since the Exodus, Oren had lost its greatest military minds and soldiers. The enemies of Oren took quick upon its weakened prey, and the Dwarves engaged in a series of wars to fracture and destroy humanity. The Grand Kingdom of Urguan lay to the South with nothing but a series of independent plots of land near the Cloud Temple to prevent the Dwarves from marching into Oren once more. Jon’s plan was simple. He and his fellow men that he had recruited would conquer and unite the lands around the Cloud Temple to provide a buffer between the Dwarves and Humanity. Jon’s plan was taken well, and with a mixture of his charisma and military might, he and his men began consolidating the region. It was an untilled land, situated on a main road with the Wood Elves to the North, Orcs to the South, Dwarves to the South East, and remnants of Mankind to the East.

And so the Winterguard Jon Othaman, received the Viscounty of Valles, bestowed upon him by the Kingdom of Herendul and King Edward II Winter. And eventually that famed warrior was elevated towards the status of a marquis by King Edward II for his continued show of competency and force.

And with the continued success of Marquis Jon and the strength of the Red Cross, Valles ascended to a duchy with Jon as the holder, however still sworn under the now Archduke Edward of Herendul, who had subjugated the former Kingdom into the Empires fold. The new Duke of Valles soon requested the end of his oath towards the winter as they could no longer perform their duties and responsibilities as liege. The Winters had abandoned Othaman and with that they had abandoned their vassal. The Othamans were then sworn under the Imperial House of Carrion and the Empire itself directly.

Eventually Duke Othaman marched with 7 of his men towards an elven village, his orders were to decimate the population and so he did. Although the destruction of the village was not all that had happened. From the distance that Duke could already see the men of Teuton appearing from the distance. The teuton force outnumbered the othamanic force 3 to 1 and so the Duke of Valles and his men fought bravely and vigorously against the enemy force, however to no avail the men of Valles were outnumbered by the enemy force and soon after most of the othamanic force had fallen with only Jon and a loyal friend to remain alive. Wounded. Nearing Death. In the distance the duke of Valles could see banners, blurring into his eyesight. Upon first glance he thought it was another enemy force, however to his surprise they were not the enemy, but men of the White Rose. And so the Duke of Valles fell. And with the death of the first Duke of Valles followed another man into his footsteps. A man known for his prowess in war, his skills on the battlefield and for his role within the dukes war. His son and heir, Tarcell Othaman, second Duke of Valles, but that is a tale for another time.
