The Politicism of the Canonist Church

In the recent decades, Almaris has turned into a warzone, multiple nations warring and as a result, the church has been dragged into the political landscape of Almaris. With the church being dragged into the political landscape: it begs the question, how does the church remain neutral, even when it's being pulled each and every way politically?

Firstly, let us discuss the recent situations the church has been in. With the last Pontiff, Pontiff Everard Sixtus, we saw a long lasting political discourse surrounding Oren. After the succession of Emperor Phillip III, the Pontiff opted to excommunicate the Emperor and Empress much to the begrudal of Orenians. Soon after this the long coveted title of Fidei Defensor that was held by Oren was taken from them and passed to Haense, an enemy of Oren’s in their ongoing war with the ‘Tripartite Coalition’. The reasoning behind this is the attempted schism that was backed by Oren. Of course this failed, and Haense was given the role of Fiedei Defensor for coming to the defence of their faith. From then, multiple people in Oren have been excommunicated or lost roles within the church, purely due to the nation from which they come. This has stopped being the case as of recently, as the new Pontiff, Pontiff Tylos II has taken a far more neutral stance.

It is safe to say, however, that Oren’s response to this was not positive either. Oren has on several occasions been aggressive, in a sense, to the church. There is the case of Baron Manfred attacking a Priest and a Cardinal, as well as his Anti-Canonist board outside of the Basilica of Providence. In addition, Oren recently announced the intention to begin hosting state marriages in which the Church is excluded from the holy ceremony of Matrimony; a clear attempt to separate religion from the matters of their state. It is clear to see that both sides in this situation have done wrong, both pushing each other away instead of making any true attempts to repair the issues they were clearly suffering from, so the question would remain, how should they have fixed this?

To fix the issue, it would take a lot of compromising for both sides. To start with Oren would need to remove the state marriage system and revert to canonist marriage system as they were once before, as well as publicly denouncing the actions of people like Baron Manfred who seek to cause divide between the Orenian public and The Holy Church. In turn, the Church should remove the excommunication from those in Oren where it is perceived to be unjust, such as the case of the Emperor and Empress. In addition, the title of Fidei Defensor should be returned, or failing this, a similar title should be granted to the Empire. The main problem that is preventing this from happening, is the pride of both parties, however it is wise to refer to The Scroll of the Spirit:

2:7-8. ‘The Lord is the Lord GOD without peer, but you fail in His Virtue, and neglect the good of GOD for what is forbidden. And this is a sin of sightless pride, for what the Lord bids, He has thus bidden.’”

Both sides show clear signs of pride and it is the matter of one side making the first move to break down the current negative connotation surrounding it. The Church of Canon is a clear unifier of humanity and we should all work to unify humanity properly rather than trying to divide it more. The Holy Church should be the one to make the first move as it should be the moral compass of all Canonists, leading the flocks of Canonists by example.

Signed,

Acolyte Ledicort Vuiller

One such Ravn Vuiller is proud of her nephew, recuperating within her bed, though a weathered smile came to her expression as she took in his thesis. Pride twinged within her chest and she thought briefly that her own Papa would be proud of the boy, before melancholy overtook her at memories of the man.

Lady Johanne Vuiller still couldn't entirely understand why Ledicourt became an Acolyte, the young girl of eight bugging him whenever she could. Why not become a Knight? She'd wonder, thinking of her Uncle Duncans greatness. Nonetheless, though, she'd glance over his thesis like a good cousin, eyes glazing over for the most part but took notice of some parts. "Oh. This makes sense. I guess this isn't so bad. He'll still play with me, right?"

As secretary to the High Pontiff, Tylos II, Sister Silence went through most of his correspondence upon it reaching his desk. This recent one caught her eye, a new acolyte's thesis, and she looked it over, frowning as she did. She picked up her pen and began to make a precise copy of the document which, once done, she began to annotate so that the Pontiff and his Prelate would see both the original and annotated copy. Those annotations were:

From then multiple people in Oren have been excommunicated or lost roles within the church, purely due to the nation from which they come.

It is strange to note this and we must be diligent to seek out what false rumors have been spreading amongst the Orenian faithful. Of course, since the initial anathematization within the Poenitentia Incompleta, no further excommunications have been given. What other ones could this Acolyte been speaking of? And what people lost roles within the church? Is he speaking of those leaders who, due to age, have chosen to step down from their posts to allow younger, more energetic people to take their place?

Quote

It is clear to see that both sides in this situation have done wrong.

These words are worrisome. In each case listed in the thesis, the church has either not done what the Acolyte says it has or has acted properly. GOD demands penance from sin. It is not wrong to lay out penance for those who has sinned, especially for those who have a divine mandate to set an example for their subjects.

In turn the Church should remove the excommunication from those in Oren where it is perceived to be unjust such as the case of the Emperor and Empress.

It is not for men to decide to lift excommunication without penance. GOD demands penance to be done before ablution, and the anathemata refuse to complete their penance. Your Holiness, this thesis shows that we must make clear to the faithful that you have attempted multiple times to reach out to the anathemata, even offering lesser penance for their reconciliation with GOD. They must know that those terms have been rejected, over and over again.

In addition, the title of Fidei Defensor should be returned, or failing this, a similar title should be granted to the Empire.

Foolish sentiment of what I fear is an Orenian zealot over a zealot for GOD. The anathemata continue to promote vassals who break from the church. Lord Minuvas, as an example, is a known apostate, who has published multiple missives about his lost faith and his embrace of worship of the mortal and dead Malin. Baron Manfred is a heathen of the Red Faith who has been allowed by Imperial decree to practice his faith and has even built a temple to the Red Faith on Imperial land.

The Holy Church should be the one to make the first move as it should be the moral compass of all canonists, leading the flocks of canonists by example.

It is incumbent upon you, Holiness, that the faithful be made aware that, as always, the Church not only should make the first move, but has. And the second. And the third. In each attempt for reconciliation, the Church has been rejected and more insult dealt to it. The latest may be the decree that the anathemata can perform sacraments, but there is a long and storied history showing you reaching out and the anathemata rejecting and then spitting in the face of GOD.

Tarathiel would smile as he spotted the Thesis on his desk "Oooh more fuel for the fire!" The Elf would toss the Thesis into the fire, smiling as he felt the heat on his body.

The thesis been been left in the mailbox of the Vernhart Residence to be retrieved by the woman of the house. Madeline Vernhart set the mail on the kitchen table and slowly took a seat. Bearing a child, the blonde often found herself weaker and pained. Madeline took the cup of bitter reed and honey tea in hand as she started to read. Upon finishing it, the woman gave a nod, “The last thing I expected was my little brother to join the church - perhaps little Luddy will make Ma and Papa proud… It will certainly make Grandpa Johann and Saint Harald happy.”

[!] Sir Joseph Clement de Sarkozy seemed to read the thesis from within his office of the Pompourelia keep, writing his thoughts upon a piece of paper [!]

It is true that many Orenians think that the church had been driven by secular ambitions as that of Everard VI. As far as he is concerned, he remains to have been a Pontiff and did what he believed was “right”. As far as the bloodshed is concerned, that had been caused from two Canonist sides, of which I was a participant - I can not forgive myself for slaughtering the people who I once called brothers and sisters in our faith; despite our cultural or political differences. For due to this conflict, I have lost a most beloved family member and I am certain that he now rests with his ancestors in the Seven Skies.

The heathen King of Urguan has certainly learned to make peace with the Empire, and so has the Dual-Kingdom of Hanseti-Ruska come to learn of peace as well. The main threat that remains a problem to the Canonist flock is the separation, if we are to separate from the Church - we will be in the exact same conflict that we have been in for almost the last decade. Upon which consistent attacks could take place and thus could make our brothers and sisters divided as ever.

Anti-Canonist behavior should be condemned and therefore; as we are people of mercy, we ought to give them a chance to reconcile. Although, many of those who support the separation from the Church seem to have a different thought upon such matters. As far as the so-called 'separation' is concerned, I do believe that this can not function without having proper educated clergy who spent years, perhaps decades studying the scrolls that were received by the Exalted.

Canonism itself teaches us to find mercy, peace and a personal relationship with God; and to either condemn those who commit crimes against our flock or to grant them the chance to discover God. For our faith is the only true and one faith that makes us who we are - not the faiths who try to eliminate us. Bloodshed should not be among our brothers and sisters; instead we should try and live together in harmony as God had tasked his Exalted with.

I have read this thesis with interest despite the minor mistakes - I do see where you intend to bring our faithful flock. I pray this thesis shall enlighten many and so I pray that it shall bring many thoughts to those who read it. We must make peace with those whom we were once in conflict with, and bring our faith back to its previous state - that of faithful Imperial heroes.

Manfred would shake his head upon reading the letter  taking note of the contents he would fold the letter neatly, signaling a number of his guards to accompany him to the capitol.

A letter would be penned to Acolyte Ledicort @Duncan the Fearsome, sealed with the seal of the Pontifical Secretary. Inside would be a note and a second sealed letter.

"Acolyte Ledicort, His Holiness, Tylos II, has asked me to invite you to the Holy See within Karosgrad to discuss your recent thesis. He read it with great interest and with a gladdened heart, that one seeking the cloth would write about something so pressing with such clarity. He awaits your response with enthusiasm.

Sister Silence, OBN"

The second letter was sealed with the Pontifical Seal, and read:

"It has always been Our hope that peace could be made. Peace between the Tripartine and the Orenian, and peace between the Crown and the Laurel. For the Crown and Laurel were meant to be separate, but in sync, and this incongruity is in the vast majority of Our current prayers. We ask you to ponder on the following: wherever GOD is, there peace might be found. And, there where He is not, the opposite is self-evident; where there is enmity, envy, impatience, self-love, there is Iblees. Wherever Iblees is, there everything is ruinous, proud and hostile. We look forward to peace and push towards it. We hope that faithful acolytes such as yourself, soon to be full men of the cloth, will bring it about. The Empire is deserving of a revival of peace and faith. With more Orenians like yourself, it can be so."

Saint Harald Vuiller as well as Father Johan Vuiller would smile the suns smile from within the Seven Skies as they watched over their descendant, a proud feeling filling them both.

As Sir Rev Vuiller, the Inquisitor-General and Viscount read over the Thesis he would pause for a moment, brining it with him as he walked through his family's halls. the man finding a frame putting the thesis within it hanging it upon the wall while keeping a warm smile on his face.

Laurelie Vuiller did her best to read her cousin's thesis and follow along. However being a young girl of ten years of age didn't understand it all to much. She went to him soon after, a small dog following behind her to congratulate him on getting it done

"God must be in all things, whether we think them good or vile - how else could God be all-encompassing, whether in the virtuous or cruel ?" a monk laughed "One must only squint hard enough."

"WRONG!" came the cry from the CHORNO-RIFT, or more immediately concerning the BOOT OF THE ANGRY PRIEST that had been launched there-through. "Not the words, mind you, which you have cleverly inveigled, GENIUSly cloaked in a statement A MAN OF FAITH might otherwise immediately recognize as TRUE: "GOD IS IN ALL THINGS IN AS MUCH AS ALL THINGS ARE A DESECNDANT OF GOOD (PERSONIFIED GOOD-NESS PERSONIFIED 'I AM' - DIVINE INTENT). NO!" The green-orange and some-part red but mostly green miniature chorno-resonance-cascade violently cackled. The priest didn't bother to confirm if his rebuke-boot made contact with the 'monastic' of dubious vows and mental acuity. "BUT BECAUSE (concerning what is wrong) OF THE VILE HERESIES THAT HAVE TAKEN HOLD OF YOUR MIND, TONGUE, and what have you, WHICH CONCEAL A GRIM THOUGHT INDEED, BORN OF EVIIL, EVIL, E-VILE INTENT. Fore you most certainly are a peddler of PAN-THEIST NONSENSE!" But the priest had nevertheless made a perfect landing and was proceeding as planned with his lecture, his visual aids not far behind him, doubtlessly zipping through whatever-it-was the same way that he had himself at a dangerous* speed. "Or else he shall not be all-encompassing; IS IT A RULE, THAT GOD MUST BE ALL THINGS? Let us dwell on this, and what it means to be a 'CREATED THING' at all-- and this of course is to say nothing of the restriction of the EIN SOF into ADAM ELYON which you, being a LORE FIEND, must surely believe in as much as you believe there to be a VOID-- rather, let us see WHO HE IS and WHAT YOU ARE by contrast with this simple minimal effort ruleset:

1. HE IS THAT HE IS (NECESSARY EXISTENCE) INFINITE AND EVER-WAS

2. YOU ARE NOT GOD!!!!!!!!

3. IF A THING IS TO BE MADE DISTINCT FROM WHAT IS INFINITE AND ALL-ENCOMPASSING THERE MUST BE A SPACE IN-WHICH IT IS NOT SO

4. YOU ARE NOT GOD!!!!!!!!!!

5. OR ELSE THERE WOULD ONLY BE WHAT IS AND HAS NO POTENTIAL NOT TO BE, THERE COULD BE NOTHING BESIDES IT, THUS THE WORLD

6. YO UARE NOT GOD!!!!!!!!!!

7. ALL THINGS AS A CONSEQUENCE OF DIVINE INTENT ARE IMBUED WITH THE SPIRIT OF THAT WORK (ALL THINGS GOOD BY NATURE)

8. YOU ARE NOT GOD!!!!!!!!!

9. BUT NOT ONE AND THE SAME WITH THE [NAME REDACTED] THAT CREATED IT!!!! THEY ARE MADE DELIBERATELY DISTINCT!!!

10. If a creature created in this place THE WORLD, or THE WORLD, by their own sovereign will elected to defy the law and guiding image of creation (GOOD) in folly, they would be in self-championed opposition to the ESSENCE OF, but would not, and could not alter what they are themselves in THEIR essence made in the likeness of good. And because this is the case, and as the Great Terrible Consequence of That Which Shall Not Be Named in the Three Party Crime, this is the case. [Name Redacted] is not, in His nature, restrained at all, or restricted, or an inhabitant of the world as a consequence of his infinity. But He is present in that world-incarnate in Spirit, and Glory, and other emanations. See: OWYN'S FLAME which was RUACH HAKODESH; an incarnation of the deity as the Mercyflame, with the intent to repair, guide, and correct creatures that have fallen from grace as a result of the aforementioned. Naturally the wholeness of [NAME REDACTED FOR SAFETY] in its INFINITY could not coexist inside of limited creation, it would not fit. There is however nothing prohibiting this same force from entering into creation, and instructing creation with perfect understanding as an incarnate entity indivisible with divine will. In conclusion, what is good is genuinely good, what is vine is what is not good, many creatures created good have strayed from the good in what we call SIN. Further, we have no reason at all to believe that the Creator is indivisible with all creatures inside Creation. The Creator can only be with evil in as much as what is doing evil is good in its essence, but this does not mean that the Creator is responsible for the act, which was not perpetrated by His sovereign will, rather, another's entirely." Green creatures quickly descended upon the priest, who had managed all these words in the span of only some minutes, and grappled him ruthlessly. "I SAY THIS BECAUSE YOU NO-DOUBT BELIEVE THERE TO BE NO EVIL AT ALL-" cried the priest as one of the constables commanded; "GALUNGA!" and mastered control over him physically, the two pulling the priest towards the green-orange-some-red-but-mostly-green rift. "-WHICH MEANS THAT YOU MUST SURELY THING THAT EVIL IS GOOD, YOU ARE IN ERROR, YOU ARE IN ERROR!!! YOU MUST CHANGE YOUR WAYS, IT IS IMPERATIVE, OR ELSE-- A thud, a crash, the three intruders upon the monk were struck with the priest's visual aids. The Vortigaunts began kicking the priest. "THERE'S NO TIME TO EXPLAIN!!!" lamented the cleric, who lingered there only seconds longer before he was sent back the way that he came, now in custody.
