Elennanore 2808 Popular Post Share Posted April 17, 2022 Spoiler The Adfectio Stones (Art made with Picrew; program art by Mochigome) “What beauties lie below.” An unknown explorer. There are untold gems that lie below, beyond the value of lustrous metals and gleaming stones. Within their natural homes, they are dim and show no brilliance. Yet, when held, they are said to emit the emotions of one’s own thought. Adfectio Stones(Raw), Refining, & Harvesting Raw adfectio stones start off as lightless, opaque, gray, crystalline deposits found in clusters within most types of rocks. They are fairly brittle and dull to begin with, having few particularly noteworthy uses. They are able to be extracted with most other methods of mining, and can be polished as easily as any other stone. They appear to attempt to emit varying colors when held, but there is a lack of vibrance and shine when they do. If the Adfectio Stone is polished, one would find very different results. Adfectio Stones(Refined) The adfectio stone has a peculiar property of changing colors when it comes near any mortal creature, capable of thought; up to an inch away before its brilliant, colorful light dims to and fades away to a translucent light gray. The colors that the stone emits appear in a splashing manner, like droplets of rain falling into still water. It is unknown how exactly these stones function, resulting in their wide range of color dependent on emotion. However, many have deduced that the adfectio stone conducts emotional energy found in the body, and emits this energy as light and color. This seemingly makes sense, considering the amount of light the adfectio stone may emit is dependent upon the intensity of the emotion that the mortal may have. This same energy that is conducted may be used in tandem or entirely replace redstone in order to form circuitry, allowing for mechanical processes to be supplanted by the intensity of emotion a mortal may feel. Though, adfectio stones are only capable of powering small aesthetic things, such as lights or other aesthetic things. Yet, one must take care to not mishandle their adfectio stones if they find themselves in a state of disarray or chaos. If, due to emotional circumstance or magical manipulation, one is experiencing many muddled, strong emotions simultaneously, the adfectio stone will be washed over with a vibrant rainbow of colors, with black, white, and gray not being included. These colors appear jagged and erratic, almost like static. If the stone remains in this state for too long, they are susceptible to damage and crack after a few seconds. The exception to this rule comes in part with adfectio stones of larger sizes, with larger stones seemingly attempting to deduce which emotion is being felt strongest, and so choosing that specific one over others. Typically, adfectio stones of fistful size and smaller will easily crack, but anything larger in size than a basketball will not break as easily. 'Strong emotions' are characterized as feelings that are almost 'overpowering', such as an intense rage caused by the murder of a loved one; these stones will break if they experience multiple 'strong emotions'. Adfectio stones that may be held or touched by multiple mortals(2 or more), will result in the respective areas touched by either or the many participants, taking on the color of whatever emotion they are feeling. However, just as before, if the adfectio stone is washed over in too many colors of varying emotional intensities, the stone will break shortly after a few seconds of what appears to be the colors in the stone attempting to overtake one another. Yet, adfectio stones may maintain up to two colors with few problems, by two individuals. Refined adfectio stones are quite smooth, and may really take on any shape the lapidarist so desires. Cutting open an adfectio stone would show that it contains many pockets of globules, which appear to be the cause of an adfectio stone’s conduction. These globules may be seen without cutting open the stone, but would require a glass to amplify one’s sight. With that, if one physically touched an adfectio stone in an area where there were more globules, the emitted light would be brighter. On a final note, an adfectio stone is capable of being used in alchemy. The color the adfectio stone takes on will result in differing alchemical symbols, however, all adfectio stones have the symbol of connection, and are a sign of aether. To use these in any alchemical process, simply crush the stone while it is emitting the desired color in reference to your own emotion. The adfectio stone will remain this color for a few minutes. It must be quickly processed with haste in a mortar and pestle(aurum pestle), and then mixed into aqua vitae and stirred with a ladle(aurum ladle). Finally, boil off the aqua vitae and you will be left with powder(s). Black, Gray, and White: These three ‘colors’ by themselves are typically unseen and rarely do show themselves even across a human’s lifespan, and maybe one or two times for the long lived elves. Yet, the color an adfectio stone reflects does have darker or lighter notes, implying that there must be ‘black, gray, and white’ present in the color which the stone emits. Black: Malevolence, Strength, Chaos - The desire to do conscious evil. Thus, the a black adfectio stone implies that one wishes to do some sort of evil, which one believes is evil, in a conscious manner. Adfectio stones which are truly black and not merely a dark gray are a rare sight, and they are informative of the vile mental state that one may be in. Aether | Dark x1 Aether | Chaos x1 Aether | Connection x1 Gray: Doubt, Fear, Balance - The state one is in when they are conflicted with themselves on a life changing level or have come to terms with whatever hardship they have faced. Most commonly, the doubt one feels is associated with oneself, having felt some sort of way which makes you feel incapable of change, while fear is mostly associated with fear of the unknown, the confusion one feels when they stand next to the precipice of a dark forest, at the edge of a deep chasm - staring into the abyss. Yet, balance is when one has come to terms with themselves, typically on a spiritual level. They have had some sort of realization which has nullified their fears or doubts. Darker grays are associated with fear, lighter grays doubt, and a gray which has reached a middleground, balance. Aether | Blindness x1 Aether | Fear x1 Aether | Balance x1 Aether | Connection x1 White: Innocence, Faithfulness, Altruism - A reflection of the innate desire a mother may feel for her child(altruism), or the feeling a priest may have in reverence of their deity(faithfulness), but it is also a reflection of the innate state of being that most newborns are in, ‘innocence’ - incapable of understanding good and evil, wrong and right, a lack of knowledge when it comes to worldly affairs. A white adfectio stone does not imply that someone has reached a point of unconditional love, or show extreme loyalty in the face of adversity, it is a state of being. Newborns may typically cause an adfectio stone to emit white, and the elderly on death’s door may also cause a stone to emit white. Aether | Light x1 Aether | Purity x1 Aether | Connection x1 Red: Anger, Excitement, Embarrassment, Love - Reds are often associated with stronger, much more spontaneous emotions, as well as thoughts and feelings that can overpower others. Rage, excitement, embarrassment, and love are all emotions that will trigger reddish coloration in a stone, with paler reds such as pink or blush signifying love or embarrassment, darker reds like cherry or scarlet hues signifying rage and anger, and more middle ground reds like ruby shades will signify excitement. Aether | Rage x1 Aether | Connection x1 Blue: Loss, Sadness, Worry, Tranquility, Peace - Blues are commonly seen as the opposites to the more red emotions, showing more calm, slow emotions, as well as thoughts and feelings that could be perceived as more serious or missunderstood. Loss, sadness, worry, peace and tranquility are all emotions that can cause the stone to shift to a blue hue, with darker shades like navy and indigo representing loss or sadness, middle shades like cobalt or azure reflecting worry or nervousness, and paler blues like cornflower or powder representing tranquility and peace. Aether | Order x1 Aether | Connection x1 Yellow: Content, Happiness, Pride, Apathy, Boredom - Yellows are most often seen with representations of happiness, such as with sunflowers or dandelions, and are usually much more fast paced emotions or thoughts, usually signifying happiness, pride, contentment, or in the worst case, apathy and boredom. With darker, brighter yellows, such as canary or sunflower yellows, the holder of the stone would be revealing more happy or prideful emotions, while middle shades of yellow, like sunshine, would signify contentment. Pale yellows, however, would moreso represent apathy or boredom. Aether | Vigor x1 Aether | Connection x1 Orange: Hatred, Contempt, Disgust, Passion, Enthusiasm - A mixture of red and yellow, the color orange will represent both fast paced and also explosive emotions and thoughts, such as hatred, contempt, passion and enthusiasm. Lighter shades of orange will reflect more of the passion and enthusiasm, possibly reaching almost a marigold’s shade of orange, whilst the darker shades represent disgust, contempt or hated. Aether | Strength x1 Aether | Connection x1 Green: Envy, Jealousy, Longingness, Compassion - A mixture of yellow and blue, these colors are based around more fast paced and calmer emotions or thoughts, such as envy, jealousy, longingness or compassion. The shade range within the greens can go from a pale fern signifying the longingness and compassion at a mild amount, to the darkest shades signifying jealousy and envy reaching a deep emerald color. Aether | Weakness x1 Aether | Connection x1 Purple: Confusion, Discomfort, Curiosity, Wonder, Insight, Bravery - A mixture between red and blue, this color combination brings more orderly and understood emotions to mind, signifying discomfort, curiosity, wonder, insight or even in worst cases, confusion - the lack of order and understanding. Lighter shades for these hues will often be seen in lilacs or lavenders, signifying confusion or discomfort. Whilst more vibrant or bright purples leaning more towards amethyst or iris being more along the lines of wonder or curiosity. Whilst a strong emotion like bravery will take on a darker purple, like that of wine. Aether | Growth x1 Aether | Connection x1 Redlines The player chooses what color an adfectio stones reflect; this cannot be forced upon anyone unless they are under some sort of spell or magic that is capable of affecting the mental state of a person. When it comes to criminality and attempting to deduce if one is innocent or guilty, an adfectio stone is not a reliable method, as black and white are rare colors, and these colors do not show up because some feels guilt, shame, or knows they are ‘innocent’ of the offense. Since players consciously choose what color they want an adfectio stone to emit, they are their own judge and jury amongst whatever RP scenario they are in. Adfectio stones may be used to operate aesethetic redstone devices. It cannot be used to operate piston doors, powered rails, or anything of similar mechanical significance. When it comes to what kinds of creatures are affected by adfectio; only those that can think on a 'higher spectrum'. This essentially eliminates plants entirely, with the exception of lore specific plants; and animals which are incapable of emotion(at least what is considered emotion), so that eliminates insects like grasshopper, ants, beatless, etc. Most Constructs are capable of causing a reaction in an adfectio stone. The rule of thumb is 'if it has sentience/self awareness'. Don't overcomplicate this. Credits: Elrith - me, I did the rewrite lemme pat myself on the back real fast :cringe: Bravery - they asked me some questions so I said **** it and did a rewrite; also wrote lots of the new stuff - mainly updated a bunch of the colors. Phil - a good lad, basically wrote all the original stuff, I just transcribed it into a new format and added onto it. Author’s Notes My writing has improved since the previous iteration of Adfectio lore, and obviously, it needs a little updating since it lacks depth and has quite a few grammatical and spelling errors. In all honesty, it was a rushed work. This is to simply freshen up the lore and give it some presence it truly needed. All that’s been done is the addition of the color gray and adding onto some of the colors to give them a bit more depth and an explanation. Happy Easter. Spoiler Here is the picrew used to make the picture at the top of the post, you can use it to make custom adfectio stones and whatnot. https://picrew.me/image_maker/5016/

Kalehart 1064 Share Posted May 27, 2022 This Lore has been accepted. Moved to Implemented Lore, it will be sorted to it's appropriate category soon. Please note that if this is playable lore, such as a magic or CA, you will need to write a guide for this piece. You will be contacted regarding the guide (or implementation if it isn’t needed) shortly.
