The Onkolithos

BACKGROUND

The Onkolithos are a rare species of cave dwelling monsters, found in the deepest part of any cave. They have been created by a mysterious mage long ago, with the purpose of defending his cave lair. When he died the Onkolithos had no master and started wandering around Almaris. Over time, the rocky monsters lost their need for a master. They lost their ability to think properly and became the beasts they are today.

PHYSIOLIGY

Onkolithos range from 3 to 6 metres tall. The body of an Onkolitho has the shape of a very large humanoid, seeming to be made from solid rock, though this isn’t the case. The monster has a thick layer of stone covering most of his body, making it nearly impossible to kill using a sword or arrows. Underneath this natural armor the Onkolitho has a body of normal flesh. It’s bones are made of very strong stone, seemingly almost as strong as iron. At the points where it bends it’s arms, legs and neck it doesn’t have any stone protection. This is clearly visible. It’s skin looks like the skin of a dark dwarf. Black like coal. With a precise strike in any of these spots one is able to slay the beast with fair ease. It’s head seems like a normal boulder with some holes in it. The Onkolitho breathes air and so can be suffocated. It cannot hear, neither can it smell. It also cannot talk, though it can make low grumbling noises, somewhat resembling the sound of rocks falling down from the ceiling of the cave it resides in. It uses this ability to confuse and scare his opponents. It has great strength, easily able to crush iron and stone using his bare hands. It does not have the ability to use weapons or any other sort of tool and armor. The Onkolithos do not and cannot reproduce. That is why there only is a limited amount of them around the lands of Almaris. They normally aren’t aggressive, though when they detect an intruder in their territory the can be very aggressive and quick to attack. It doesn’t know of any strategy in fighting, and uses brute force to kill his opponents. It doesn’t understand any language since it can’t hear. An Onkolitho has to eat and drink. It drinks water and eats any kind of cave dwelling animals or plants. It has the ability to roll up to look like a normal boulder, and when doing so it goes into a state of hibernation, requiring very little food and water. It can stay in such a state for up to 5 years. They are surprisingly agile, though not very fast, being as fast as a walking descendant when running. They are as smart as a dog.

HABITAT

The Onkolithos live in the deepest parts of any cave and cavern, where they pick a dry spot to settle down. They are very protective of their homes. They do not need any form of comfort and due to this their homes are no more than a small system of caves big enough to fit all of them.

ABILITIES

An Onkolithos can easily crush iron with his hands. It is very strong, being able to lift large rocks and other heavy materials. In combat, it mostly uses his hands and fists. Against smaller opponents it uses his feet to stomp down on them. Against larger opponents it can use his head to ram into them.

REDLINES

-        Onkolithos cannot be tamed or be trained to fight or work in any way.

-      The Onkolithos are player event creatures.

-        The rock on their skin has all the properties of normal stone and cannot be harvested.

-        When eaten, the flesh of an Onkolitho makes the consumer nauseous. It does not have any other effects and isn’t very saturating.

-        Onkolithos can roll up to look like an ordinary boulder. They can stay in this state of hibernation for up to 5 years, not requiring any food or water.

-        Onkolithos cannot reproduce in any way.

-        An Onkolitho can roll up to the shape of a ball, being able to roll downhill at a fast pace. It is very vulnerable to attacks while doing so.

PURPOSE [OOC]

I mainly made this creature to use for an event line that I’m hosting soon. I think it adds a much needed cave-based adversary for player events, and I think it’ll add a nice flair to large cave systems.

This Lore has been accepted. Moved to Implemented Lore, it will be sorted to it's appropriate category soon. Please note that if this is playable lore, such as a magic or CA, you will need to write a guide for this piece. You will be contacted regarding the guide (or implementation if it isn’t needed) shortly.
