Nectorist 7434 Popular Post Share Posted January 20, 2023 A Young Priest's Letter To The Canonist Princes As a son of one of history’s greatest students, I have had the fortune to grow up with a stronger understanding of the currents that ripple through from the past and into the present day. A matter which has received much attention, perhaps owing to the failed Michaelite Schism that is not yet removed from living memory, is the relationship between the Church and the Canonist Princes that aid in the tending of the flock. This relationship, I cannot lie, has not always been one of goodwill, nor has it been without tumult, but it can be said that, by and large, it has worked in the favor of both parties. Where would the people of Haense, Petra, Aaun, Sedan, and Balian be without their guiding faith, and what means would the Church have of enforcing God’s will were it not the princes that ensure His word is preached freely and safely and that His law is followed? It is why, as both a young priest and a student of history myself, my heart aches when I see division such as what has been articulated in the recent document issued by the governing powers of Sedan, Haense, and Petra. While flared tensions are understandable, especially in times of confusion, the unwisest course of action is to immediately jump to demands, which shall almost necessarily jump to the bearing of arms and talks of schism. In truth, no party emerges triumphant from the attempts of a schism, and all that is left in its wake are hurting, lost souls and a Church that must pick up the pieces from actions taken in rash haste. Would it not be desirable for all for such a tragedy to be averted? That the path towards schism not be toed, allowing the opportunity to promote it to rear its ugly head again? While I would not suggest that the Canonist Princes that have signed this document promote schism, or would desire it, the demands levied against the Church are so great and drastic that the road towards such a needless, violent end has already been tread down. It is a path that history has seen a thousand times, and it is one with no good end in sight. In light of these times of turmoil and discord between the Canonist Princes and the Church, I personally urge cooler heads to prevail and facilitate an honest discussion between the two parties so that no hasty actions, the same actions that will necessarily lead to regret, will follow. The flock is strongest when it is united, and weakest when disunity rips it asunder. I urge the Canonist Princes to allow their better senses to prevail and renounce such harsh ultimatums and instead seek a mediated resolution, lest the road that has been trampled too many times before is walked down again, leading to the predictable end that none of us desire. They descend into rot or beauty. From those primal elements, we shape our Virtue, and from our Virtue we discover the truth of the Exalted Derfey. In truth, trust not the bureaucrat who cloaks his mischief in religion, trust not the politician who uses the Faith to surmise their own divinity." - Atticus Derfey's Meditations, 12:16, The Prime Virtue
