What circumstances led to this ban?

 

Late last year, Adelemphii created a plugin which let you edit signs with whatever text you want to let you click on them and get an 'inspection' message on them. I found out relatively quickly that this could be used to edit pre-existing signs on the server. Under the guise of creating an egregore agains the Palebeast for our group, I replaced many empty signs with 'I HATE THE PALEBEAST'. Originally (and primarily) it was empty signs used for decoration- boarding up windows, empty signboards, fences around plants. Around 99 percent of the signs that were replaced had no text on them and I was purely using them to do IRP grafitti. I found out later that signs with text already on them CAN be edited and I had no idea how to return those to the original, only how to clear them. After once or twice I avoided replacing signs with pre-existing text on them but the damage was done. A few days later I was investigation banned and after many months given a six month ban, which lowered to 3 months in January.

In hindsight, what I did was obvious griefing and I had not read the rules on graffiti, and had assumed since these signs had no text on them that the graffiti was allowed. This could have been avoided by just asking a moderator if replacing empty signs with the plugin counted as griefing. It also could've been avoided by simply not abusing the plugin and having a better insight on what the plugin was supposed to do.

 

Are there aspects of the ban you agree and/or disagree with?

 

I do not disagree with any of the aspects of the ban anymore. I disagreed with the statement that this was deserving of an indefinite ban but that was rescinded. I am very grateful that the ban period has been rescinded to Jan 26, 2023 instead of an indefinite ban with no message. Thank you.

 

What motivates you to return to LOTC?

 

I am motivated to return as my friends have encouraged me to appeal after my appeal date was lowered to three months. They wish for me to return to their community and participate in upcoming lore they are going to release, as they see me as an important part of their group. Originally I did not want to, but now I might as well try to return and do what is right by my colleagues.

You griefed around 300-400 signs in two days. This wasn't some minor graffiti, you actively went out of your way to do this.
