Your View: On Course—Off Course?

Hi,

 

I've been hearing some chatter regarding server direction recently—I thought it might be helpful to get ahead of this. Does anybody smell smoke, or are we happy with our experience? Since there is a smattering of topics I figured I would keep this mostly unfocused.

 

The question I would ask: are we doing enough to defend our position as the premier roleplay server?

I think the vicious divide between pvp and crp will continue on until defined roll-style combat gets passed that feeds both the competitive drive and honors rp sufficiently. Thronecraft, for being a horrible experience for everyone involved, did have that going for it

We aren't doing enough to defend the Roleplay experience, or the communities safety. There are three major points I think have been addressed and reported, and each has felt underwhelmingly responded to through with lack of action.

The last couple months alone feedback regarding raid tools and the focus on story building being priority has been ignored. These tools disrupt roleplay without any viable way of combating against it, or any guidelines as to how they should even be used. Please remove them. 

How we address members of the community who roleplay in bad faith is discouraging; we've seen this with the recent nor'asath report, as well as the countless experiences that many communities have had since map drop, especially with groups who treat the server like a grinding raid-faction server.

Lastly, the most recent moderation feedback post. It has felt dismissive, and to be so disillusioned that we celebrate the fact that a small minority of people are content the state of moderation and not focusing on the large statistics that the majority are unhappy, unsatisfied and wish to see change is disappointing.

There has been an outcry for what feels like months now, people who don't feel comfortable going to moderation anymore, and those who don't want to log on because of how different the server is at the moment.

I've been apart of the server for about ten and a half years at this point, with a few good year long breaks scattered in there. Unfortunately, since my most recent return to the server, I've only seen the server degrading over time instead of getting better. It's honestly probably at the worst point its been at since I've joined, between a blatant disregard for the safety of the community to the general disconnect between staff and players. Usually there are always things to nitpick or gripe about, but the server tended to have redeeming qualities to make up for it. But I've found those redeeming qualities to be far and few between now.

Things like the SS pillar system, the vanishing?? CRP thing and all sorts of other items might be really confusing to new players.

Thronecraft sucked looking back on it, but I met a few good friends on it (some of which I still talk to and RP with today) 

 

the one thing Thronecraft 100% has over on LOTC is its combat, even if it was long

I think the biggest problem the server faces currently is pvp unionism. Back in the day, pvpers would play within actual nations, but now, almost all the pvpers on the server are a part of a single group that uses their mechanical skill to control server politics that they have no actual stakes in--all for the sake of clicks. 

 

This has created a rather toxic server environment that has made fun conflict impossible. From bad faith actors to moderators and a certain admin that enable such behaviors, my experience on the server has drastically diminished in recent months.
