I will say that the conversation around Ferrymen/Fmen in most circles boils down to three things: they have had huge server impact, they are the server boogeyman and that they hold a stranglehold on banditrp.

I do think the reputation is better than some think as other pvp groups like the Irehearts under Elite and the infamous Mogbeards carry more negative connotations then the Ferrymen.

The Ferrymen as a group is infamous and they will forever be divisive in the community. Tho the fact that they helped to create Celia'nor to me at least is mainly a positive thing.

When I was captured on my dwarf it did create some fun rp tho I could barely type due to my nerves being slightly fried after my second relapse.

But my ending statement will be this: people are always 50/50, they carry some kickass stories from back in the day and they helped kill Oren which is a good thing.

Honestly used to hate you guys, but having played with some of your boys both on server and outside of it, I've been healed from that.

I still think some of the guys are just plain cyber bullies though. Not all of them by a mile, but some of the guys just go out to annoy people and try to get some sweet pvp. I gotta admit I've been part of that in the past aswell, but I like to think I never structurally targeted groups which made it less bully-ish.

I only have two negative comments to make regarding the Ferrymen:

- Some NLs and players have the perception of the Ferrymen being an OOC Group rather than a RP Group.

- Some NLs and players don't want to roleplay anything related to a united humanity because they fear the Ferrymen's reaction.

I genuinely believe that the lack of a united humanity is part of the reason that the quality of human roleplay is currently in decadence and stagnancy.

Ferrymen are great, they totally did not force me to write this postive comment while keeping my wife's bf hostage in the other room.

I invited you because you were still a good friend of mine and I seen you hold a good position in the ISA I was building but for some reason after it fell out you started acting like a regular "if ill stall for long enough they'll leave" type of person

That’s odd because I got plenty of screenshots from the Petran Legion discord where you’re just being an ass about me for no sensible reason; also the one time we’ve interacted RPly since the Petran Legion days you’re coming up to me while I’m minding my own business AFK mining the Urguan gold mines + I was pretty much brand new off a hiatus then and was trying to get back into the swing of RP still.

Tbh... As a problem player, myself, I like the ferrymen.

Despite the OOC logistics of organizing a PVP rally and all that BS, they are, from my experience, a pretty RP oriented group (even if the RP is undesirable to what I want to happen...). They are a group that, if they are allied with you, can determine the outcome of a battle or a war - but they always come to collect sooner or later, which I think is a funny little caveat to their services.

Its important to have antagonists where there are protagonists, otherwise the good times mean nothing if you have no bad times to overcome. However, there is something to be said about the PVP faction grindset being something that can overtake the purpose of RP in general. For instance, why RP if you will get rolled up on by 10 dudes on the road who want to PVP default you, etc (not saying that's something the Ferryguys do, just an overall example of PVP outweighing RP). That isn't desirable RP for most people on the receiving side, and can really be a turn-off in wanting to play on the server. I know there are some bandit/villainy RP'ers who will ask people in DM's beforehand if a person wouldn't mind being bandited, etc, but for the most part, its usually a pretty undesirable interaction for the victim. Perhaps try that model for a change, or allow the player some grace to soulbind/put away important items before actual villainy commences to make it a less high-stakes and bothersome interaction that leaves a bad taste in the 'loser's' mouth.

Just a hot take. :)

one time i almost got robbed and the ferryman robbing me got so annoyed with me doing emotes (of my character just being a scared victim pretty much) that were longer than one-liners, they just let me go because they didn’t want to read allat. not a bad encounter just a hilarious and telling one. tldr, if you need to escape a bandit, just actually roleplay at them

The only reason I didn't want to continue antagonizing a mere weakling is that it wouldn't make my character (superior) feel any satisfaction. He needs to fight someone who is at least as strong as he is; otherwise, he would just ignore the weaklings. (I'm him lol.) To whomever I have fought, know that my character (superior) considers you a worthy opponent.

im not anti-pvper; i was always a flay and then reiver fanboy but u guys have been annoying me for years

not because ur bad RPers. you do nice emotes and try to entertain ppl before u kill them

but ur incredibly ******* dull in that you neuter every conflict. every conflict is decided by who's hired the 100 bajillion pvpers, which is ok, mercs were a thing, but then you find an excuse to switch sides 1 million times until ensuring a status quo is reached. "we're with haense cuz haense gave us x, y and z" - "ok but now oren gave us titles and land so we're with them and ditching the gibs haense gave us" - "now we're bored of oren so we're giving up those titles and land and switch sides again" - end result, a war of 6 months achieves ******* nothing

have some ambition ffs. PVP on this server is shit and the only reason it's enjoyable is that it has high stakes - but those stakes don't exist when u surrender ur winnings in order to switch sides again and enforce a status quo. can u actually try to ACHIEVE something for once?

love you kiss

The whole point of being a mercenary is not to be attached or aligned with any nation. Mercenaries are simply hired to fight, and if the other side offers better pay, of course the mercs would gladly switch sides. That's just a thing or two about making deals with mercenaries.
