i might be overlooking any possible issues, but would it be so bad to make like an announcement explaining why people were banned? (So long as it is appropriate to be shared, if not we can assume the worst) problem is we usually assume the worst if we dont know

I think at times it is a privacy issue, most times when someone is banned it is not permanent and they will be back, and publishing the reason for each ban can drag through the mud the name of someone who might have already learned from their mistake, ruining their chance to get back to the community. I can say for me personally when someone gets banned I forget about it after a few mins and go on with my life, but if it was published, things will get more "juicy", people tend to navigate to drama, and it will draw more attention to it. At least my opinion

Personally, I've found it much easier to work with individual staff then staff teams. There's plenty of Mods and ST I trust and I ask them questions plenty - but overall, Moderation and ST as a whole team are awful at communication, consistency, and enforcement. Moderation, I will say, has gotten better, but the issue still exists:

Why are rulings over the current lore/rulesets private, and thus spread by word of mouth and in trust of what you hear from players, not staff?

Why is the standard typically centered around the bare minimum not breaking the rules, and not the "No Loopholes" policy elaborated on throughout the server?

Why are rules enforced in such a laissez-faire manner? Why is it the same occurrence can result in wildly different punishments, in both moderation and ST Enforcement? Why are some rules selectively enforced by some against others, and not generally?

I don't think this distrust just happens - its something that went by word of mouth, after incidents and reports go unhandled or with what really feels like the minimum standard of effort. It's why people don't make reports, or why they go to a Mod/ST with questions instead of Sreqing/modreqing.

If I had to boil it down, it's communication. Staff, as a team, is awful at communicating with individuals or communities. Individual Staff are either unallowed, or not informed enough to communicate when the need arises, forcing a red-taped chain of communication that typically doesn't end up resolving the issue in a effective, long-term manner either at the moment, or later on.

Staff is a volunteer thing, that is true - but if your going to do it and volunteer, issues like these (what I refer to above) should really not be issues at all, given players are held to these standards.

I will probably elaborate on these points later in detail and specificity because I think its stupidly useless to just say "This bad" and not what clearly, or why, or what I think should be done about it - but this gets the general point across admist the "r" spam

What happened yesterday wasn’t just an attack against staff, but a representation of what could come to staff in the future. I’m proud that the community was able to immediately identify that these screenshots were fake and altered and was able to act mature over it. I hope that nothing like this occurs in the future, though the response has made me more proud of the player base than I ever have.

So I'm starting this out with a disclaimer of the following: I have not logged on in about a year and I harbor no negativity towards staff or any player group. Additional i am Ex-CT so i do harbor some bias

So first off, hello, nice to see you all again. I am unfamiliar with the situation but I did want to add my 2 cents on something. This server no matter what will have toxic people, you will have people who will disagree with staff and you will have people who will start crusades and hate in order to defend their friend’s actions. People will make up lies, screenshots and more if it MIGHT defend themselves, their friends or discredit people they dislike, and often, they will do this on brand new accounts to avoid backlash. Is it right? No. Is it a part of the server and life in general? Yes?

That being said, the staff team is not perfect. When I played I noticed a fair amount of bad actors, staff who did not want to do anything or staff who would go out of their way to start drama. Additionally with all that said a big problem for LOTC in general is the lack of transparency for the staff team even within the staff team. I am not sure if this has changed in recent times but by reading some comments, it seems not.

Ultimately this is a drama server, there will always be drama, there will always be decisions on who did wrong, irl vs irp, irl infusing irp, targeting, bad staffing calls, Team XYZ not doing their job properly, etc, etc. Staff is not perfect, Players are not perfect.

With all that being said however, leave mady alone, genuinely one of the hardest working and nicest people I've seen on this server. Now if you excuse me i return to nothingness.

It's late, I had a drink. I will make it brief and likely expand tomorrow.

I think Staff does on a general sense (mostly ST/Mod/Tech/tiny bit admin) lack transparency. A broken plugin, 'we know x is broken, we are looking into it, we have no idea how long it takes' is so much better than finding out it is broken. Reports are 'resolved' with a 50/50 who which way it goes and no one knows. ST making rules on lores which needs to be spread through word of mouth because 'too many guardrails ruins the fun, but don't you dare do x y and Z as we told Bobby not to do it!'.

Community team gets a big pass, applications are accepted/denied and once in a while we get pretty graphs. I like graphs.

A lot of people don't trust staff because staff rarely do anything to earn people's trust. Sure, when someone is openly breaking the TOS then they get banned, but that's genuinely the bare minimum. And it doesn't stop just because the worst of the worst are removed.

I'm sure nearly everyone, no matter their community or identity, faces constant toxicity, bigotry, and unprompted hate just because they exist, and the staff don't stop it. I've seen far more staff members participate in being horrible people than actively try to improve the server. And being part of any minority means you will get hate both in and out of roleplay for it. And then you just get told to make a report, even though that can often make just things worse by poor communication and safety measures from staff. Especially when the ban only lasts a short while before they're allowed to act all sentimental in an appeal and be allowed to continue on just fine. How many times have people like Gloonkey been banned for saying slurs at this point?

It's a staff member's job to create a fun and safe environment on the server. And even if it is a voluntary job, it's just not done. And I know that it's a larger, systemic issue that can't be solved in the comments of a forum post (and certainly not with whatever the **** happened with the fake report), but it is an issue. And I've personally never even seen a moderation team member genuinely acknowledge how toxic this server's community is, let alone try to help fix it.

With that said, I'm very glad that the issue with the fake screenshots was solved :)
And I hope that, even if I'm actually wayyyy off base and being insane, somebody in a position of power listens
