Nooblius 7965 Rep Farm Share Posted December 19, 2024 TheFirstShroom; Requiescat In Pace On Monday the 16th of December at 1:30PM, a player of this community TheFirstShroom, or George, went to the ER. He didn’t get the immediate help he needed, and waited for hours. Around 5:30PM he could no longer walk and needed a wheelchair. Around 6PM George was declared dead. We know this because a friend in his DnD group named Matt contacted the Urguan Community last Tuesday night a bit before midnight, and Wednesday morning George’s mother confirmed it. I’ve known George for five and a half years, a majority of that time we played in the dwarves together, and hung out in Voice Chats talking about life. I would tease him for playing League, he would tease me about Runesmithing Rewrites. I would rant about players giving me headaches, and he would rant about the Story Team and elves- but the greatest thing about George was that he was a lot more joyful and level-headed. He had dumb feuds on the server as anyone did, but he didn’t wish them harm. He didn’t hate them, even if they ground his gears. He was normal, kind, and frankly those two things alone made him such a comforting presence to many players for many years. George wanted the best for people, and for people to have fun on this silly game we all play. I would ask that anyone who knew George pray for him and his family. As some of us have experienced before, it is always difficult for a family and for friends to lose someone at a young age. Beyond that, I know they would appreciate any fond stories of George that you may like to share. Either comment here, or to [the1stshroom] on discord if you wish to keep it more private (his mother has his account for now). I am trying to compile them, be it fond personal memories or even just a very memorable Roleplay Story, so that we have a nice collection to share with his friends and family who may care, and to remember him by. I’ll share my own story. It was a long time ago, so my memory may not be pin-point. In summer of 2019, I rejoined the server when I was bored and made my character Norli. Norli was a dwarven bard, and would spend his nights spending what few coin he had on drinks at the dwarven tavern called “the Bearded Lady”. If I recall correctly, in one of my first times playing the server I met both TheFirstShroom and Snailena, who I would go on to interact with many many times in the first few months I played that character. TheFirstShroom played then, as he did just a few days ago, Falk Irongut. Falk was a member of the Irongut Clan, which meant he was destined to learn about magic and arcane craftsmanship, but as well his character was interested in merchantry and brewing drinks. What dwarf wouldn’t like booze and gold? Falk cared for his kin, his friends, and his traditions. I could write on and on and give the entire story that our characters had together, and by extension the stories we made out-of-character as well. I intend to, some other day once I can reflect on it all. For around three of the five years we've known another, we were often involved in some project together. What I said above was the core of the character for years, the only major change being that his character developed to become a master in those fields, reflecting the out-of-character reality that he as a player had become wiser in showing other people how to make stories on the server, and how to have fun. Importantly, George also taught people how to act. Nobody is perfect, there were things that got under his skin as much as anyone else- but one of the great qualities of George as I knew him is that he actively tried not to hold things against people personally. He had taught me, certainly, not to take things as personally as I used to- and to give credit where credit was due, to understand the perspective of the other guy. Optimism in the most profound meaning of the word. George knew how to make good stories- many of the memories I have with him are out of character discussions about how to promote an interesting story on the server. We spent endless hours discussing the dwarven Clergy, the dwarven guilds, the state of lore in the Urguan community and the broader server. I hope there are people who fondly recall our schemes in “da Kirkja Dverga” where our characters would plot to change Urguan’s culture, and the hijinks we made of those who got in the way of Falk and Norli. I hope there are people who remember the great constructs we made in “Yemekar’s Workforce”, the towering machines, mystical golems and intricate crafts laden with narrative symbolism we made. I’m sure many players recall interacts with Falk’s “Golden Enchantery” and the stories George made for people from all different communities. I fondly recall hearing stories about little quests he would give people as payment instead of just collecting currency. Personally, George had always encouraged me over the years that I knew him, including just a week ago when I spoke to him for the last time. Encouraging me to do well in real life, to be confident in my good senses, and to have good fun. I am deeply grateful to have known him, and know comfort in that one day I shall greet him again.

Hiebe 2493 Share Posted December 19, 2024 Was a good Irongut. Always in a good mood and helped new dwarves out. A leader when needed and a friend as well. Rest in peace.

SoulReapingWolf 2281 Share Posted December 19, 2024 I had the privilege of playing alongside TheFirstShroom or George for a couple of years as a dwarf, he played my Irongut character's father. I will always remember fondly the time we spent RPing together, standing in the background while Shroom and BD schemed and planned on cool artifacts and legendary items they would craft and how they would craft them. It saddens me deeply to learn of his passing and a part of me is filled with regrets for not spending more time with him and getting to know him better. I hope the best for his family and will cherish his memory for as long as I live, he was one of the best people I've met on this server. Rest in Peace friend.
Epicethan4 948 Share Posted December 19, 2024 I Had some brief interactions with him. We rped in Almaris and he was one of the ironguts who introduced me to the clan. Very recently I purchased a flamethrower from him and we rped. I cannot say I truly knew him, but the interactions we had were overwhelmingly enjoyable. I offer my condolences to his family and friends. He was an inspiration to many dwarves and players on this server, and for that he will always have my respect. D3F4LT 1026 Share Posted December 19, 2024 The best Lord Justicar the Dwarves could wish for! The best Irongut his clan could wish for and a friend to many within as outside the dwarven community. May he live further in our memories for who he was, a dwarf with a big heart for justice! Narvok Oz George!
DISCOLIQUID 2731 Share Posted December 19, 2024 I rolled through my computer, trying to find screenshots of some of my smithing with George's character, Falk. I think they're on my old hard drive, which is a shame. Shroom, George, was eternally kind to me & a joy to talk to, even beyond the persona of a character. He made Khron Hundmar (I'm sure I'm butchering that) feel like more than a collection of blocks or pixels, but like a place to relax & talk to my friends in. I spent hours of my time farming potatoes, sugarcane, and pumpkins in that automated farm - it was my favorite place on the map. Often times we would talk late about nothing at all, mostly just Minecraft, or memories of the Ironguts. Our most memorable RP was a seance I did on a character to commune to Hiebe's spirit. I was talking to him just the other day about building in Urguan. I miss him, genuinely. What a loss.
Badgermordakin 760 Share Posted December 19, 2024 I already wrote many of my thoughts down in the collection box to be sent to his family (which I encourage others to do as well, in Urguan main city). Shroom was a great friend, a mentor of sorts on the server, and a top notch rper. I was deeply saddened to hear of his passing. He was my first ever interaction on the server and his welcoming attitude is what kept me here. I had great respect for him and his work, I'm honored to be able to carry on even just a small part of his legacy as one of his successors to the Irongut clan that he held such a passion for. Even before his death I'd often think of him when giving lessons about voidal magic (Vuur'dor in dwarven as we both preferred) and irongut/dwarven culture. I can only imagine those thoughts will be even greater as I continue to teach what he taught me and what we both loved. I will miss you brother.
Toffee 2843 Share Posted December 19, 2024 I didn’t know thefirstshroom personally, but from the outpouring of grief and love in the days after his passing it’s abundantly clear that he was an integral part of our community and will be missed. To his family, I send my deepest condolences. I hope that it can bring some comfort knowing that his legacy and the warm memories he brought to so many people will live on.

Ender_Panda13 78 Share Posted December 19, 2024 A few months ago (perhaps closer to a year now) I came back to LOTC for a short time, wanting to get back into dwarves and see what has happened. George was one of the first I ran into, we chatted for a bit, I think at first he thought I was a new player, because when I mentioned how long I've been around he became more interested in the stories I had to share of past events, in the dwarves and other parts of the community. It was nice to retell them to someone and he was the kindest role-player I had the chance of meeting. He was a great person, and was interested in learning more about my characters' life. I wish we had talked more, my condolences to his family and friends.
BDanecker 867 Share Posted December 20, 2024 Of all the masterful plans that succeeded and blossomed, grand artifacts and cool ideas created, it was the experiences and stories on LotC that I treasured the most, and George was one of them. As one of the top goons in the dwarven cliche of mine and Nooblius's, George's ability to keep OOC and IRP separate was admirable, but moreso impressive was his friendship and joviality. Heartbreaking that we can scheme, enchant and craft no longer, but elated that we shall one day meet again in a place far better than here. We shall be seeing each other again. 6 years of memories Spoiler https://imgur.com/a/wDaIwEj
