The Lack Of Actual Roleplay

((I have been on this server for the good side of a month, now, and I have yet to see more than two true roleplay fights. It seems that people would rather roleplay only one line or two, and just automatically switch it to "PVP to the death". I was a previous victim of this, and when I go to report it, I am basically told to just forget about it and that it was a "Legit" roleplay kill. When I first signed up to this server, I read that I would be a part of a strict roleplay community. How is this possible, when my opponent is hammering away at my hearts while I'm typing my next move. I mean, why do we even have the /damage command, if barely anyone even uses it for fights? I may just be expecting too much from the roleplay on this server, but I want to feel like I roleplay'd a fight, not just hit my opponent with a sword until he dies, I can go to any other server and do that. The casual roleplay on this server is amazing, but the roleplay fighting, is extremely lacking. I think this is because, not very many Minecraft players know how to roleplay a good fight, or are just not patient enough to do anything BUT pvp. Hopefully the next roleplay fight I get in proves me wrong, but I'm not very hopeful that it will. Is it a crime, to expect roleplay, on a roleplay themed server?))

[[ PvP fights shouldn't be allowed unless there is a battle / war, because, it'd weed out the people who really can't RP fight. ]]

((This. I honestly support a world-wide PvP disable, only enabling it for war scenarios. If someone can't be bothered to role-play a fight, then honestly, I don't think they deserve a place on this role-playing server. The only problem then is, for example with bandits, if the victim doesn't want to cooperate, the bandit then can't role-play killing them if they wont cooperate.))

I always try to rp fight with emotes and without rolling the dice (unless they have equal armor, weapons, and stats as me) before being forced into pvp. Never lose those anyways :P

If the victim isn't willing to cooperate, then he is basically refusing to resist, react, or fight back, which is basically powergaming with a little with of metagaming. As his character would HAVE to cooperate. so that just goes back to what you said about "I don't think they deserve a place on this "role-playing" server".

I actually like the feel and adrenaline rush from pvp fighting, but I enjoy setting the atmosphere for the duel to take place.

*Swords are drawns, he squints and looks directly into the mans face. Intimidating him. Taunting him. He circles his opponent casually, almost not-caring, as he isn't worth a damn.

Then I go.

(Ready to engage in pvp?)

I dont mind rp fights, but the holes of being powergamed is just so bad, I dont rp fight unless its me drunk, or its with a friend I made teased too much. Or mind sparring. That is the best.

You could always request to role play fight... I mean it does take precedence over PVP and if they do agree and then go into PVP because they can't RP it then you can just ban report them. Simple as treacle.

That's true, but what can the bandit do about it? Post a ban report of them standing there doing nothing?

If people actually used /damage, I'd support this. At the moment, a bandit can RP stab someone in the chest 10000000000000000 times and the victim will just write an emote for bleeding and nothing else. A bandit would definitely loot someone they murdered or knocked out but since people don't use /damage, the bandit can't.

So we're back to the problem of needing people who can role-play well. A good role-player would be happy to hand over some items/minas.

You should read the RP fight coalition thread, lots of it's supporters joined it so they can't lose their stuff.

((Asking for people to RP well is like asking for world peace in our time. It is a nice concept but really it isn't going to happen... There is always a bad apple among the many good.))

Which means they're focused on items over role-play, which brings us once again back to the point of bad role-players. :(

Pretty much. We're doomed.

This isn't a purely text-based role-playing server. It's a hybrid that utilizes text-based role-play while also incorporating Minecraft game mechanics, which includes combat. There are two camps of players which prefer one or the other method of fighting, so they often have to meet in the middle. It's best to communicate through /msg what sort of combat you'll be having, to avoid misunderstandings and minimize power-gaming.

Not all players that prefer role-play followed by actual click-combat are poor role-players or bad sports. In fact, it's usually the other way around from my experience. Both sides need to work together. The entire point is to have fun, even if that means bending the occasionally knee.

For all of you bashing players that prefer straight up killing the old-fashioned way, if you're not willing to cooperate and make accommodations for a form of combat that a large portion of the player-base prefers and if you're not willing to occasionally click your mouse to make things as fun as possible for everyone around you, then perhaps you're the one that is non-deserving of a place on this server. If I can bother to role-play the occasional fight, you can bother to click your mouse and accept your fate a time or two as well. We all have to give and take.

Edit: Also, nothing personal to those of you that are bashing my camp. I'm just saying, think about how one-sided it sounds when we start to talk about "deserving". We don't need these divisions.
