  1. 1. Do you want the Undead to return?

    • I would like it if the Undead returned as well as the Ascended
    • I would want a good & evil to be implemented instead of the Undead/Ascended
    • I do not want the Undead re-implemented at all
    • I believe it should stay as it is, without an evil/Undead

Afternoon,

I wish to see your thoughts on if you would like the Undead & Ascended to return, Or there to be a new evil paired with a new good, Or even for the world of Asulon to stay as it is, With inprovement in each nation over time. Remember, What ever is voted the most will not 100% be implemented in, I just hope to see what your thoughts on the matter.

I would say NO undead/Ascended Return. Due then all we will see again is the undead slaying guilds, Orders, and People going out of thier way to be good so they can attempt to join ascended. An Evil would be nice but not major one. Like a Few smaller evils and let the Rp decid which Evil will grow stronger. And then a group of people will have to destroy/weaken it until its no longer a threat. (Like how World of Warcraft had Minor threats bceome the main plot line in thier games Such as the Demons, with BC and Undead in WOTLK, and how before and after those expansions they were still there just minor and not as noticable and only people who were around/live around the region they were in that had real troubles with them.)

Edit: Will fix grammer once Im home, on slow School Computer

I didn't play much on the server when the acended and the undead existed. From what I saw, the undead did nothing and so did the acended. Even the events weren't that good in my opinion. But again, I only entered the server about when al'kazar was attacked by the undead. Nothing really came from it, it was fated to be destroyed, we couldn't do anything about it, we were just there fighting a lot of mobs. Never actually saw anything about the ascended, only saw shoi once of twice, and she seemed, in my eyes, that even if she wasen't an acended, she would have rp'ed the same way.

I also believe the lore of the ascended was not very good. They just seemed an overpowered players. As for the undead, I would not see why they can't be back, but don't see why they had to have powers and be the evil. Undead would be just.. Dead char's that were brought back to life, or revived to serve Ibless. Yet to serve Ibless you can still be alive, you don't have to be an undead.

If you want a conflit of good vs evil.. I would say it should never happen. The nations would be the good, something else the evil, but the evil should also be subjective. Same nations might consider them good, others really evil. This is not hard to happen. With Renatus and Hanseti now toguether and attacking everyone and claiming that their king is almost like a god, the high elfs, the mori, and the cats isolated, the orcs being very warlike and the dwarfs a greedy bunch, I would say, the views on the evil would be very diferent from race to race.

So, my choise would be in no major good vs evil conflit.

[Edit]

People: "Oh hey look guys.. Undead and Ascended are back >.>"

Undead: *PEW PEW RAGE ROAWR!

Ascended: *Summons Airiel back from Aegis

Undead: *Burns to death and then comes back to life again with more buddies

People: *Sigh, yep just let those two fight it out while we are always ignored again.

I think this would happen

No why? People complained too much and so did the two noble races. It was a failed attempt just left it be. We want racial tension not a united front on evil.

I say-

Yes to undead, but no to Ascended other than the ones that are still alive in Asulon (if any).

The reason being stated above, the undead and ascended seemed to fight each other for most of the time. Maybe implement some type of replacement for them as not the main opposition, but a supporting role to the current races.

Edit: @Uthor

I proposed an Idea to someone yesterday, being a largescale Seafaring Raiders/Slavers. Due to the current map and almost all nations having water it seems logical for both the time period of slaves existing and a sort of "Pirate" as well.

Say... These groups randomly attacked without warclaim, but with a 30 minute warning or so and raided towns on the sea and ventured inland to enslave people.

Alright. Some will agree with me, some won't.

The reason I'd like the two to return, was because the possibilities were endless. If we had small evil guilds, there wouldn't be many fun battles. I'm not sure about others, but I loved those times where the undead would stand at the rooftops, causing havoc while the inhabitants would fire up at them, making some really fun rp. I liked the fact of good and evil, at least we knew where we stood. I guess the frustrating thing was trying to become a part of the undead/ascended, which may be a reason why some disagree with the opportunity of a possible implemention. I say, bring it back, but add a few minor changes, for example, a spreading taint, like the flu, or something which will increase the good/evil roleplay considerably.

We already had a poll just like this, in fact a poll exactly like this. Why is this being resurrected?

I would Like them brung back as the Role Play of them returning would be excellent.

Only thing is I would like it so, that the Really good Undead didn't have God Mode, as that was annoying when they attacked as we had so many people dying but They wouldn't even be dazed. :)

My honest opinion, bring back the Undead but NOT the Ascended. The Ascended were what sprouted the little pathetic anti-Undead 'guilds'. The Ascended made elitist roleplay and honestly wasn't very well thought out. They were the out and out good guys and I think there should be more shades of grey.

I am not a real fan of bringing them back,

However should they be brought back I hope for both the ascended and undead to come back.

(since that is the only thing that would make sence rp wise). However things would need to change for it to be somewhat enjoyable.

Also who would decide who gets to be undead or ascended?

Would you just bring back all the old once or would you choose some new rp'ers as well?

I liked them but not at the end. At first they were great fun. People had to actually fight them and the fate of cities hung in balance. Later though the Undead were given GodMode. This ruined the atmosphere due to the fact that players could no longer actually affect what happened. If the city was supposed to be destroyed it was. The Undead also never progressed past Al'Khazar which I thought was a shame until they were given GodMode. If they return I would also like it to be done differently. Instead of Undead raising new ones I say there can't be new ones. This could stop people trying to become them and at the same time force the Undead to rely more upon evil guilds. I say the same about the Ascended to a lesser amount. I say have them come back only as the ones who are actually alive right now and each can have two apprentices. Once those slots are filled that's it. Another thing is Perma killing of them. I say if an Ascended is killed by someone with Iblees in a good RP manner they CAN'T come back. So the two races would try to kill eachother. I would also like to see some artifacts scattered around. Maybe these artifacts can put up a spell shield stopping Undead attack? They can have may functions. Another thing is that they were given too much of a pominent role in Aegis. If they return I want them to provoke evil. So maybe a toned down Undead? This is just my two cents though.

Lym's rant

First of all, thank you for taking your time to read my rant. Trust me, you won't regret it, simply because afterwards, you're going to see this entire matter from a totally diffrent perspective.

I. - Directed at some of the posters above

To those who say "Blah bla blah, people complained too much about the conflict.": I can understand those who're saying this because they tried to solve the issues of the conflict and I greatly appreciate their input. However, those who didn't contribute and simply just said "I hate the Undeads because they destroyed my pixelhome and the Ascended didn't do ****!!11!1" should be quiet. If you don't contribute, then don't speak in this tongue.

II. -Community, Story-Line, Roleplay

The original idea of the Undead vs. Ascended conflict was to give the players a story-line. The community was supposed to have something they would all share (the fear/hate/disgust/whatever for the Undead). A community needs something that connects the playerbase. There is no reason for me to play on LOTC because I have nothing to do. Now you may say: "Ehhh, do some RP, join a family" and so on. Honestly, the roleplay I enjoyed was the thrilling roleplay. I'm not that type of Roleplayer that goes fishing everyday and goes lumberjacking afterwards. It gets boring, reason why I'm online on LOTC for an hour, maybe less during the entire week.

III. - The Undeads Reputation

Coming to my next point, the Undead reputation. I was Undead myself and got a lot of feedback from the playerbase after events and attacks. Now, lots of people enjoyed the events. I got some really nice feedback from the Oren Rangers under the leadership of Rio Coconuts after we both agreed on having a spontan attack on their fort. Then again, events like the one that took place in Galahar (when the Undeads conquered the Nest and caused a riot) were also enjoyable for most of the players. You disagree with me on this point? Why, if I may ask? Because you got killed and lost your stuff? Because your house is on fire and some dude is plundering it?

Don't get attached to your pixel home, you can rebuild it most of the time after the attack. You lost your items? Sucks for you, wanna know how many gold staves the Undeads lost because of the ridiculous Non-RP kills we received? Countless...

Point is: It's Roleplay, deal with it.

IV. - Undead players

Talking about Non-RP kills, I'm not going to say the Undeads were perfect. Yes, we also had black sheeps in our rows. I know that many players dislike Arteh, Kahzo, Masterfawkes, Cassandra and so on for breaking the rules, abusing powers and powergaming. We tried sorting these players out and we did fairly good. In the end, AllenTheGreat, Dalek348 and myself, Lymdil, were the only Undeads left who were actively playing and trying to do something. However, it's not possible to organize events when the magic plug-in is broken and a certain Coder by the name Vaquxine is not able to fix it within 5 weeks.

V. - Battles, Attacks, Events

I think most of the players really enjoyed the times when the North was slowly corrupted by the Undeads and the Undead keep was built. The daily attacks on both sides were enjoyable for most of the community. There were events which were, to be quite honest, simply fail, for example the Undead attack on Raven Hold. No one wanted to go there just to fight the Undeads, no one really gave a ****. Events like Al'Khazar or the event in which the Undeads had that giant egg and said egg was spawning silverfish were quite awesome, if you ask me.

Attacks like the on at Alstion were fairly awesome, too.

VI. - Magic & Overpowered

Coming to the point that most-likely pissed off most players. The Undead magic was never really overpowered. You may disagree with me on this but:

1. Lightning was horribly buggy, it tend to hit the Undeads themselves. It was not usuable on Snow, Half-steps, stairs and so on. Lightning was NEVER spam-able, it only dealt full damage every 3-4 seconds. Spamming lightning was uneffectively, sadly, people like Arteh didn't know.

2. The Fire Balls: Wow, seriously man, what the hell. They either blew up in your face, bounced at each other or simply killed you. Using them in close-range battles did not work properly, most of the time, they simply were useless.

NOT TO FORGET THEY COULDN'T EVEN DESTROY COBBLESTONE WHILE THE ASCENDED SPELLS DESTROYED BEDROCK!

3. Zombie/Demon groups: Oh lord, where to begin. First of all, when spawned near an enemy, the skeletons usually attacked themselves and not the enemy. It was not possible to spawn the demon groups at day time when it rained in a desert, making fights in Krugmar really ridiculous. Demon groups were ridiculously useless when the server lagged, they did nothing then.

4. Damage of the spells: I'm the first one to admit:The Undead lightning was never OP, you guys are just bad. If you stay in the fire created by the lightning, you die. WHO WOULD HAVE GUESSED, HUH?!

VII. - Control by GM team, etc.

Whenever the Undeads wanted to start a major event, we had to wait for GM permission. Most of the time, we were need of 1 to 3 GMs overwatching the events. It was never easy to organize events, however I'm not blaming the GM team for this issue. In fact, it's the fault of the rules the Undeads had to follow.

Having a GM assisting the Undeads was always useful, I do believe having a GM for each race makes sense, not to favourite them but to have a certain control over them. It's always nice to have someone in the GM team that actually knows what's going on in the Undead race, what needs to be adressed and so on.

Charlie4vb, MrZombez, Tyrion, Latsi and Lirinya were the GMs we had to assist us. Compared to other races, we had less.

VIII. - The Future

Let's face it: There were issues with the Undeads and Ascendeds. We learned from the mistakes we made and together, we can make a change. Recruiting processes for the Undeads and Ascendeds, the attacks, the lore and so on would get completly re-done.

VIIII. - Last

Don't say "Hey, I don't want this re-implented." unless you give a good reason. No matter how much you despite the Undeads for causing problems in the past, give us a chance to improve. We all deserve a second chance, right?

On behalf of the former Undead players, I can assure you, that we appreciate positive and negative feedback. But please, for the love of god, don't get cocky, keep it as mature as possible and most important: DON'T FLAME!

My own little comment: Thank you very much for reading my rant. If you managed to get here by reading all of the above, I apology for the horrible grammar, I'm tired, not in the mood to write and just want to get my point across! ^_^

Once again, thanks for reading.

Sincerely,

~Lym

Former Undead Player
