She opened her eyes slowly, a translucent light shining lightly upon her face. Ryder’s emerald eyes darted around the room, seeing the emptiness around her before slowly sitting up. She lay in a bed of red roses, the thorns lightly scratching her bare skin, and tearing at the sheer silk gown that covered her body. Blinking her long eyelashes, Ryder slowly sat up. She breathed deeply, seeming to catch her breath once more as she looked around. Her fever was all but gone, and the uncontrollable shaking had diminished.

She gazed in awe as she looked at the beautiful garden around her. The bright morning light filled every corner as the sweet sound of a running stream filled the air. “Wh-ere am I ?” she asked herself slowly getting to her feet. She stumbled hazily, still feeling weak from her illness. She stumbled over to a small pond, cupping her hands and splashing the cold water upon her face to wake her from the haze. Ryder let out a sigh of relief as the water dripped from her face, looking down into the still pool at her reflection.

“Good Morning, my love” she heard the familiar voice call from behind her. Turning her head, Ryder looked towards the forest at the edge of the garden, casting a lurking shadow across the grass. She smiled; walking towards the forest. As the Princess got closer to the shadow, a tall figure appeared dressed in red, a shining gold crown upon his brown curls. Ryder smiled brightly as she saw Lancel, walking faster towards him. “Lancel...” she whispered happily, taking step by step.As she got closer, he turned, walking into the deep forest and disappearing in the shadow.

She quickened her pace, her bare feet dancing lightly over the recently fallen leaves. She followed him for what felt like a mile, each time the Prince getting farther and farther away from her as she traveled into the darkness. Ryder began to grow more frightened, the light all but gone from the forest around her. She started to run, her feet slipping on the dried leaves as she runs towards the shadow of the Prince.

She finally reached him, stopping to catch her breath she smiled, reaching her hand out to his shoulder. “Finally..” she said through quick breaths, “I thought I would never find You”. She takes hold of his shoulder, smiling at his warmth. The shadow turned, the crown upon his head disappearing, and instead of the red silk tunic remained a long dark robe. “Hello, My Fire~” Ezekiel said, turning to her.

Ryder’s emerald eyes go wide, she takes her hand instinctively off of his shoulder and takes a step back, almost falling backwards as she loses her balance. “Ez-Ezekiel?” she says, stammering a bit as she blinks, making sure he is still there. Ezekiel looks down on her, a fire burning deep in his eyes. “You didn’t even wait until my body was cold” he says, his voice gruff and full of pain.

Ryder lets out a cry of pain, the wedding ring upon her finger glowing rightly and burning her skin. “I..D-didn’t know what else to do” she says, trying to stop the burning on her hand. Ezekiel shakes his head, his dark hair staying perfectly in place. “You just left, Left as I burned”, He curls up his lip in disgust, “You didn’t even Try to save me”

Ryder’s eyes held back tears, the immense guilt taking over her. “You.. told me not to go in there.. I couldn't get to you”. She closes her eyes, her mind being taken over once more by the screaming that echoed through the throne room as the fire burned. Ezekiel lets out a chuckle, his laughter deprived of feeling. “Now look at you, a Hightower *****. You were a Queen once”.

Ryder closes her eyes, a tear rolling down her chin. “What happened to you Ryder? You’re weak”. Ryder shook her head, denying it as she clenched her fists. “I-I’m not weak”. Laughter filled the silence of the forests, sending dark ravens flying from the branches above. He started to step towards her, his long coat trailing upon the dry leaves. “I-I’m sorry Ezekiel” she blurted out, looking him in the eyes, her own filled with tears.

“Your words are lies Ryder” He says, coming closer and closer to her. She looks down, hanging her head in shame, the guilt once more coming over her. Ezekiel smiles, reaching out and taking Ryder’s hand roughly, “In sickness and health.. till death do we part”. Ryder looks up at him, tilting her head in confusion. His eyes begin to glow, a fire burning from the inside out. The flesh starts to fall from his face as he lets out another loud and menacing laugh. Ryder let out a cry, trying to pull away from him, his hand too tightly gripped around her tiny wrist. “Now, my Love” Ezekiel says, “Now you shall burn with me”.

The fire from within Ezekiel’s eyes spread to the rest of his body, quickly coming alight and engulfing his body. He remained calm, basking in the burning flames that covered his body. She felt the heat, the Flame feeling seemingly cool upon her flesh. Her eyes wide in the overwhelming fear, screaming as the cool flames ticked her arm. The flames danced along her porcelain skin, catching on her silk gown and engulfing her as well. The silent forest was awakened by the roar of the flames, unbearable as they both burned and set the forest alight.
