Orc Rp Reforms

Another thing I'd like to add - It may be fun, rather than focusing on world domination, for the Orcs to focus on some problems that they are having within their race. Rebellions, attacks from creatures, etc. It fleshes the personality of the race out!

I always assumed there was or might be friction between clans and whatnot. If that's not the case, it would definitely be something fun to explore. The Orcs could have some cool political intrigue.

Aye, precisely! It's better off using that than letting it fester into nothingness. :)

There was a full blown clan war when the Orcs lost there fort to the Humans in kinda early Elysuim. It was pretty fun, better than wars with humans and dwarves.

Something I don't get is this. There are twenty-four hours in a day. At least seven of those hours would go to sleep in order to keep their body somewhat ready for fighting. Then if assume they'd have a few hours for training to maintain their skills. An hour for all their meals of the day. Traveling would take some time if they are nomads, which I don't see anymore. They sometimes hunt and kill or farm. They're mainly meant to learn war and war tactics. This is what I can assume is an average day for an Orc.

What I don't understand is why orcs have become so intelligent. Where do they find the time to study knowledge, refresh this knowledge so they remember it and manage to not be exhausted so much?

We have had many complaint of orcs being so stupid... orcs pass down knowledge through stories and many other things. Orcs can be just as wise as the other races. Stupidity id not their curse. Orcs talk to one another, we have debates as well as fights. Sure, they may be a bit more crude, but orcs can be intelligent. My character is illiterate, but that does not make him stupid. We can not generalize all the orcs in what they spend their days doing. I am not the mightiest of the orc warriors, but Grool is a problem solver.

We could say the same things about elves. Most of them seem to be competent with a sword. Why are they also smart, acrobatic, and never make an error in logic? Where do they fit in time for all this? Just a few observations.

Maybe I didn't make myself clear enough. When do orcs have time to share knowledge and all when they have so many things to do and live in such harsh conditions? I'm not necessarily complaining, but it seems to down power the goblins. And if they're mostly strengthened to survive the deserts and other areas with their muscles, when do they have time to maintain their physique? I'm not saying orcs should be in awe of fire, but I don't personally think they should be able to outsmart others in many common subjects such as economics or social activities.

This is assuming that we don't take any time at all out of our day to learn. My character and most of my clan and a majority of the others, are very knowledgeable on certain things but not as near as knowledgeable on something else. I feel as though the general assumption is that we're gigantic idiots. This was not at all our curse, we were 'cursed' with being green. However, I agree that we may not be as well rounded on as many other subjects as a normal human would be, but in some ways we may have superior knowledge on a topic like battle tactics.

To answer your question more clearly, an Orc finds time to learn whenever they can. If they are not fighting, sleeping, or learning tactics they will try to focus on whatever 'job' they are involved in, however, I agree we are truly not as well educated on certain topics as others. For example, our High Yazgurtan [human equivalent to lord high treasurer/head architect] may not be as physically strong because he'd be looking at things like economics and architecture more often than battle tactics and combat. A High Yazgurtan or Yazgurtan [assistant to High Yazgurtan, apprentice beneath him] may be on par if not better at economics and architecture than a counterpart of another race. I hope that answers your question because I feel that its a common misconception that every one is a warrior every hour of every minute, that's only a few Orcs, albeit recently a majority of Orcs have been leaning that way, but that's mainly because we're at war.

Not every Orcs are an exact copy of each other. Take Tristanx7's character for example, he is a really strong brute but extremely dumb. He can hardly think for himself and follows the Rex's order. If the Rex doesn't tell him to do something, he won't do it.

Then perhaps you ought note that despite stupidity the large orcs are still vulnerable to head trauma. This precise orc took a 40kg chest to his head, and it broke rather than his head and then walked through a crowd of elves in one emote. I honestly don't see the logic behind that level of 'thick headedness'. Just because you are stupid doesn't mean your brain isn't required to keep you breathing.

I think my main point here is if you are going to have unintelligent but huge and brutish orcs, make sure people who play them are capable of realizing they are unintelligent and still vulnerable.

I'll state thus as a general statement for everyone since it was buried in my last statement.

Orcs were not cursed with being dumb. Orcs are not idiots. We are not easily fooled like people pretend we are.

@Supremacy

That particular Orc is power gaming. Let me know who it was so I can spank them.

I think people hate us so much because we are so mean to them. we have an IC reason for knowing that.

A guide on how to speak Orc, or maybe an Orc RP guide in general. I know speaking the Kha accent turned me off a bit when making my Kha. But Geo made a fantastic guide explaining how the accent worked, and I picked up on it easily. Just a suggestion. And also more honorable orcs and less bandits. I'm glad to see that you guys are taking the initiative to fix problems that you may have, something I feel all the races should do in preparation for 3.0, honestly.

I swear, there used to be a Blah guide buried someplace in the Forums. However, after searching around, I can't seem to find it.

Looked closer, and found an Orcish Dictionary of sorts: http://www.lordofthecraft.net/forum/index.php?/topic/13396-orc-dictionary/

(I miiiight've used it on one or two occasions, to help me better understand the Orcish language. -puts hand over mouth and grimaces- Whoops.)

I swear, there was also an Orcish RP Guide SOMEPLACE too...  but if there isn't, I agree about needing some more informative Orcish posts.

I've been on the server for a year and a half, and I really don't know anything about Orcish culture. That just might be me not paying attention to posts and threads, but perhaps you should COMMERCIALIZE the Orcish race a bit more? That might gain some more attention from newer players (or even older players), and thus add to the Orcish population!

Maybe a new guide is in order then?
