Too many profession choices...way to many...

It's not like you need all of them. Just keep doing what you're doing right now... except with bonuses to the stuff you do a lot.

Still too many profession choices. Some professions should be merged.

You know, for all the odd-ball *****, whine, moaning towards sprintindwarf; you lot can take the perspective that he is the first grinder that Telanir will have to take his ideas to to perfect them. Let Sprintindwarf try to speak up a bit, won't hurt a soul, I promise by the pixels within the internet ;)

Stop being so reasonable, Gaius! This is the internet!

Alrighty! I appreciate all of your support everyone, and will now be addressing negative feedback and questions/concerns.

I will encase my responses in a spoiler to save your eyeballs, so here it goes. Even if it seems that I am not listening to your concerns, they will in fact, be taken into consideration. So please, if you have something you dislike or think could be added, tell me. :)

No No No No No No No! Bandages! Why would you bring that horror back, wasn't it already bad enough when Vaq created them!? Nooo! I just want to roleplay and have fun I don't want to have to do stuff that will prevent me from having to roleplay, how am I supposed to fight someone who kills mobs all day and does x3 damage and has 80 freaking hearts? Like seriously this has gone way farther than I though it would ever good, and there are too many professions, a few will be picked by the majority and then we will have no one for the other professions, and it has not been unheard of for people to master many things, so if this is going to restrict me from being a master of more than 1 thing that thats kinda dumb I think. Did Bo Jackson play baseball, yes, but he also played football. Did Michael Jordan play basketball, yes, but he also played baseball. You can learn to master more than one thing, and still most of these professions do things that aren't hard for the average person to do with ease at high level. Weaponsmith, Armorsmith, Jeweler, and Smelter all fall into the same thing, a Blacksmith. Lumberjack, farmer, mason? Those are just common laboring tasks that anyone could do, how hard is it to till a field, sure its hard work but it doesn't take much skill, same goes for cutting a tree down and for lying down some bricks for a building. Baker? Really besides a small population of people, who can't cook, honestly? Ranger, Martial, Exotic Melee, Tank, what is this D&D? Like wtf man I want to roleplay not play dungeons and dragons. Man this is just my two cents, I know you are working hard on this, but I speak for quite a few others when we say we want things to be simple on the server. A few things to increase enjoyment, but even without you having "grinding" there really still is, just excessively kill mobs to become a great warrior, excessively cook to become a great baker etc. And someone can just AFK for hours and get proficiency points and stuff. Like for real?

Edit: Also roosting nests? Why couldn't tells just work, more beneficial anyway, plus why do we need a printing press, who really goes around buying and reading books anyway? Also before you go hating on me soak in what I have said and remember, I don't worry about a hater.

Firstly, I feel rather insulted. I don't mind really, but I don't like how you are referring to Vaq when addressing me.

Vaq was a messy coder who rushed things and didn't know how to make plugins for a roleplay server, at least back then.

Why are you pushing his professions plugin failure on me, if I had nothing to do with it in the past? Yes, his professions plugin bombed, it wasn't made for roleplay servers, because he didn't roleplay in his history. I have about 5 years of roleplay experience, and occasionally spend my extra time enjoying some roleplay in LotC. I know what it is like to be a player on this server.

Now on to the next point, in the professions plugin, nowhere did I say that you could only master one profession. There are too many assumptions made here, take things I wrote on that post at just about face value. Next, yes there is weaponsmithing, armorsmithing, smelting, and also jewelers. Say you want to be the greatest blacksmith of your time? Master those four. It will take a while but will be worth it. There is a maximum as to how many proficiency points you can acquire, and as you get into the higher levels of professions it will become harder to acquire them, so there won't be a jack of all trades either.

And no, this isn't D&D.

And for the last point, grinding isn't going to be like you think it is. Say someone aspires to be a blacksmith on LotC, you don't have to give up your roleplay time. You can make a set of armor per day or something for a week, and meanwhile have some meaningful roleplay. AFKing is not going to work, promise. :3

So trust me as the Senior Technician who has made it his goal to further the community and make Lord of the Craft a truly wonderful place, even more so than it is right now.

Yea I didn't ask for some skill plugin, I came here to roleplay not kill mobs all day so that my character is the level of skill swords wise that he is in rp, rp training is way different than running around lagging my butt off as I am raped terribly by godly monsters. And look at the very bottom it mentions herbs and bandages and other stuff.

It's not a skill plugin. It is a professions plugin. Yeah, I came here to roleplay too, and no you don't have to kill mobs all day. The random stray mob that you encounter at night occasionally can be enough if you do it long enough. You don't have to go into the 'grinding' mindset. In fact, when a player tries to kill, say, 100 zombies in a row, the proficiency points they get from it will decrease until the day is over. Then they can kill a few again and receive 100% of the points they'd usually get. It will diminish with repetition over a short period of time, and restore later. It's completely unreal to take a math textbook and cram it in one night, and memorize the entire thing. Eventually your brain just stops processing or remembering that information as well and you just need a break. So roleplay. Also, there are going to be training dummies for those of you who hate laggy monsters, but will be weaker form of training.

Bandages, herbs, and etc. aren't going to disappoint. They will be good. :3

I'm sure this'll tie into what character cards we are using.
They will be renaming current items to fit the needs. Maybe adding enchants to them to make them noticeably different. You should understand that this isn't a skills plugin. This is a professions plugin. You can still do everything you want to, but you'll get better at doing things as you level them up. However, a FEW things will be limited, as mentioned in the post.

Enchants won't be added, enchanting things will be relatively the same as it is right now.

Also I'd like to ask about supposedly creating mediocre armors, does that mean I'll make armor with half durability because I ain't dealing with that crap.

It has nothing to do with the durability of the armor. It's going beyond that, as in, a mediocre weaponsmith can create a crude sword, it will have 100% durability, but will not function as well as a master made sword.

THIS IS NOT CONFIRMED BY THE TECH TEAM, but either you will lose durability at lower levels, or you will just get more/enchants at higher level. Though, I do recall hearing something of a re-work on how armor works in general, though I don't remember where I heard this.

Nope. Won't work that way, but yes armor will be reworked.

I believe another profession should be added to the profession list. "Brewer". You could get perks that could be used in the Brewery plugin-maybe better brews or seeds or hops or whatnot.

I'll take that into consideration. Thanks for the suggestion!

Until Telanir, answers. We're going to assume multiple character's professions is pulled from their character card. I'm sure the guide team will be making a Guide ASAP if Telanir doesn't. As far are your last questions, about multiple professions, I'd assume you could know more than one thing, but only mast certain things, to a certain extent. But, Telanir will answer this, and correct me if I'm wrong.

No. I can figure out so many ways to abuse that it's not even funny. Character cards will remain the way they work right now, and will work separately from the professions plugin. Everyone will only have one professions profile, and that's it.

Not everyone should have the ability to rapidly copy books... in fact, only the dwarfen engineers guild should since they're the only ones with an actual printing press.

Whomever decides to become a scribe will be able to copy books. Although the name suggests printing presses, they won't actually be a printing press. They are scribe workstations which will be a lot more lore-correct technology-wise.

I read about a magic plugin, and was wondering how that was going.

It's going to tie into the professions plugin. It's coming with it in the bundle. ;)

You can't avoid something that effects the entire server. I can't just be like oh you have 76 hearts and x4 damage, I have 4 hearts because I never kill stuff

Yes this affects the entire server, and no it's not going to be avoided. Nobody is ever going to get 4x damage, and yes, a veteran warrior will beat a novice warrior in combat. No more battles with peasants in iron-armor who claim to have practiced all day for it. Now you get to prove you have! :P

Yea but honestly nobody does this anyway, it would also affect those who in in different time zones, you'd have to search for blacksmiths and then they are busy or offline and you never get any stuff because there are only 5 blacksmiths on the server and you never see them around. Plus, there are 5 different blacksmiths professions! There was already a lack of good blacksmiths, now they will be even fewer because we have to search for each individual one when IRL they can make weapons and armor and smelt their own ores. -_-

If you hadn't noticed, there is an auction house integrated into the professions plugin. People in Australian times will not suffer, as they will be able to purchase goods from these other locations even when players are not online. Also, I respectfully disagree. This will give a better chance for an actual real living and breathing economy. An actual dynamic economy that players can participate in, and every person will be just as much capable of earning some cash as anyone else. So no more 1 man companies that get all the money, cooperation with people in the community will be required. This will create more roleplay, contrary as to what some people believe.

Don't ask rhetorical question Birc. You already know the answer.

When I read stock market I -almost- fainted.

Hmm! Why'd you almost faint when you read about the stock market? xD

Thought it was going to be extremely complicated?

Thanks Gaius! And indeed folks, I need your opinions, no matter negative or positive, I need to know as best as I can what will make the professions plugin as close to perfect as possible.

Okay this is for Telanir but the quote keeps messing up a lot. Alright you have addressed many of my concerns and I am thankful for that, but I need to address some other things I am concerned about.

Grand Exchange: Okay so how will this work exactly? Will it be like Runescape where free members get a few transaction slots, and VIPs or so will get more? Or will it be free for everyone, or only VIPS can sell stuff? If only VIPs it will go badly, because even if these Australians come there, if they don't have VIP they can't really do anything y'know?

Herbs and Bandages: If you do this I strongly must tell you one thing. Do not turn off heal regeneration, I hated that so much and I tell you right now that if that happens I will leave until it is gotten rid of, that is a guarantee. Not trying to threaten you, but I stopped playing for awhile when Vaq did that so, yea.

Smithing: Alright so this is good, but can you explain further? So will normal leveled people make normal MC blades and then masters maybe make it so that it has extra durability than normal, or possibly a bit more damage? Not a whole lot though, because we don't need like two or one hit kills, because nobody wants that unless you are the one doing it. Also what are Jewelers really? Will there be like rp necklaces, or will you introduce items?

Guide: I know one thing right now and that is that I will never understand this without help, and I can tell you now that no one wants to answer my constant questions, in fact I'm sure you are frustrated with me now! I recommend you create a guide for the plug in for dummies like me to use, in fact right now I ask for you to call it Professions Plugin for Dummies.

I like what you are doing here and I know what you are doing is all meant for the servers well being, but as they say "History has a way of repeating itself." I'd rather not have this happen again so please listen to what I have to say.

Please don't jump to the worst scenario conclusions. The professions is all about value-add and not limitations. And I can't imagine food healing to be turned off as that is a horrible idea and it doesn't take much thought to realise why.
