The Massacre Of Kingston

Kingston had changed. The gates were closed, and where Hightower colors once flew, now there were only banners of purple and black. The streets, damp from the recent rain, were slippery and treacherous. The inquisition had arrived.

At the west gate, a balcony had been built, to serve as a speaking podium, and on it stood the Lord Inquisitor, surrounded by his men and the fellow occupiers. The call had gone out to the entire city, and its inhabitants amassed in the courtyard below. Finally, the shields marched out from the keep, taking up position at the back of the crowd, warily eying the new masters of the town.

At one end of the line stood the officers, deep in whispered, urgent conversation. The valets stood still, looking up with rapt attention at the balcony as the Lord Inquisitor spoke shortly of vague plans of a cleansing of the city. The crowd in front of them began to yell jeers, uneasy at the show of imperial power that now surrounded them on every street corner.

"Your turn, Thomas," the inquisitor spoke, and Thomas Chivay took the podium. A few inward breaths of shock could be heard among the shields' ranks as he, too, began to speak, of how Salvus should consider this a blessing, how they would be turned to the creator-fearing citizens that the empire demanded.

Then smiling at the shields at the back of the crowd, Thomas finished his speech.

"And to the honorable shields of Salvus, I say this: WELCOME TO MARTIAL LAW!"

The attack caught the shields completely by surprise. Crossbow bolts rained down from the walls, ripping through armor, leaving nothing but corpses in their wake. Lord Commander Siegemen was the first to die, his corpse falling lifeless on the cobblestone, his blood flowing into the fountain. Those who could tried to run, but most were cut down in the streets by the pursuing enemy. When all was over, only Commander Waveswept and Sir Valin had escaped, with a single valet, fleeing into the mountains, in hopes of regrouping with those in the order who had been outside the city.

*Dun paces back and forth, deciding whether to leave or not. Looking toward Siege's corpse, he pushes through the comotion and removes the Siege's scutum. He thinks to himself for a time*

"'e may 'ave been a bastard, but 'e did nae deserve this ****. All involved will pay, I'll be sure uv it."

*Dun then walks toward the gates of Salvus, holding the shield, intent on bringing to The Rose the same gifts he had brought to the Blackmont*

Jaskier steps through the blood painted streets, looking among all of the corpses of what was once Salvus' populace.

"And I thought it would be a battle... Not a massacre..." Jaskier slowly shakes his head "Least we are rid of those edgy heretics now".

((Hiebe's comment made me laugh for a minute.)) Clarren Arrowfoot approaches town, his tabard no where in sight. A bird drops a note, and he picks it up. Reading it, he glares coldly at Salvus, a murderous look of hatred in his eyes. Turning from Kingston, he heads down the path, thankful of the peasant clothes he had been wearing off duty. Pulling out a small journal, he writes a silent vow never to forgive what happened to his fellow Shields.

It took some time for the stories of the massacre to reach Kaelys, and even when they did there were many conflicting reports. The first report was that the city was attacked, invaded by roses and the shields were killed trying to protect it.

The second report was the shields attacked the roses while they entered the city and failed miserably despite outnumbering them 3 - 1. Kaelys could see that happening.

However the third report, the one he got from some of the refugees themselves told of the Roses surprise attacking the shields during a speech. This one was repeated over and over by the others he talked to, so Kaelys accepted it as truth.

After a few moments thinking it over he grabs a bow and a few arrows and sets off for salvus, as he walks he mutters something to himself.

"Salvus will never forget what happened that day, and they will never forgive."

A nameless Shield stands with his comrade in arms, listening to the King of Kaedrin. The Shield bore no ill-will towards the Roses, he respected them, actually. He admired their actions and deeds in warfare, and yearned to bear the red and white tabard of the Rose. But today was not his day. He squinted as he looked up at the Rose King, the sun boring down onto his eyes. The speech was near an end. Finally. The heavy armour was sweltering in this heat and he had lost interest in the speech...

"... Marshal Law!"

The Shield looked up, and just then, a crossbow bolt ripped into the side of his calf. He cried out in pain, and stumbled over. His leg, it felt like it was on fire. He numbly grasped the shaft as blood poured from his leg. Shouts and cries erupted around him,

What was happeni-

The Shield saw it before he felt it. A snake emerging out of his belly.

That can't be right...

Firey pain exploded from his torso. The spear was lanced from behind, thrown by some Man-At-Arms. The Sheild grunted, and collapsed. Watching through blury, wet, eyes as his comrades were cut down.

Scicle enters his home, the news of the massacre reaching him by a few Elves who had heard it through a trade caravan.

"The Apes can do what they want," he thinks to himself. "But if this 'Martial Law' affects us in any way, they will regret their decisions."

Somewhere in the Dwarven mountains Bardel falls down to his knees and clasps his chest "I sense a disturbance in the force... As if millions of lives... Just died out."

The Lord High Sheriff Shas'O Kais gets word of the martial law and the so called massacre, he looks to the other Sheriffs of the Empire he look to him for their orders, he then speaks

"Borric, Ocran you two are to offer assistance to the occupying force, I don't care who runs Salvus just get it lawful again, slavers, heretics and others undesirables still wonder within Salvus, route them out and bring them to me dead or alive, due to the rise in Crown Authority you are permitted to take what soldiers you can, because both of you are Rose men this shouldn't be to hard, that is all."

Kais then walks off to tend to the many papers on his desk, warrants, bounty posters he needs to keep updated
