A notice is posted to the message board in Abresi, printed in fine gold ink:

For those of you who do not possess a copy of the original document, I have included its text for your reading convenience. It should go without saying, its text is unaltered.

Issued and confirmed by his Imperial Majesty the Holy Emperor of Oren, Horen V.

That's your Emperor! May the Black Dragon bring freedom to the dead... or something like that.

At the will of his Imperial Majesty Horen V,  and agreement of The Malinor High Council.

An agreement of two equal parties, both named. On, there's us, Malinor.

Let it be known throughout the Empire that the City-State of Malinor, shall now be welcome and Protected under the Empire from here on.

Pretty self-explanatory. We got an Orenian style welcome, with swords drawn threatening our very existence.

The City State of Malinor, home to the Mali, is hereby decreed, under agreement of the High Council of Malinor and our Great and Divine Emperor, to be a self-governing, independent city-state under the military protection of the Holy Empire of Oren. This agreement is to upheld until such a time as the Council of Malinor decide they no longer wish to be under the protection of the Glorious Empire of Oren with clear and justified reasoning and after going through all the possibilities of solving it, at which point they may dissolve it without prosecution or delay.

This basically states we remain an independent nation under the protection of Oren, and that Malinor can withdraw from this agreement if and when it wants to.

The Holy Oren Empire,

That's you guys!

1-  The Holy Empire is to protect and maintain the independence of the city-state from all forces.

You are obligated to defend us in the case of an army or other group attacks us. Not the other way around. I have no idea how we got you to agree to this, but it a beautiful little loop hole.

2- The Holy Empire, shall also have officers that supply and train the City-State’s Military.

You did not really make much of an effort on this one. Read all about what happened in the Flagship.

3- The Holy Empire, shall not restrict, the travel or trade of The City-States People to it or from it.

Too late! Tearing down and obstructing vital bridges is quite restricting, you know.

4- The Holy Empire, shall in time when need be supply lands opening them up for future projects for the City States prosperity.

We would have enough land, if we had been allowed to keep our original borders. But I am glad wars are being fought for the right reasons, arbitrary lines on maps and natural resources.

5- The City-State of Malinor shall still hold ownership over, Darkhaven and future settlements as well, that are south of the river. Future settlements shall be created with the agreement between the City State and the Empire.

Seems odd that and independent nation would require the permission of another country to build in its oen land, but, it was agreed to. Not ad in exchange for your protection.

6- Prince Avern’len San’taeleh shall be placed within the Emperor’s court. In the efforts to maintain steady and firm lines of communication between the two peoples.

After he left the High Council, no one has been sent to replace him. Perhaps that is why there seems to be very little communication?

7- Citizens of Oren shall be welcomed with open arms, should their intentions be of a peaceful end. Those that do not comply with Malinor’s laws, threaten or kill any citizens within the borders of the City State of Malinor, shall be dealt with as a criminal would if found guilty. Regardless of social standing.

Orenians are always welcome in Malinor, as long as they obey our laws. One of those is that armor is not permitted within Leumaelin. You agree to follow our laws when you enter Malinor. Do not be surprised when we enforce them. We may have been pushovers when we signed this, but a thing or two has changed since you last met the children of Malin.

The City State Of Malinor,

That's us!

1-  Malinor Cede's all land south of the Elven river to the Holy Empire of Oren, in the interest of unhampered patrols and overwatch and the protection of such large land.

This is a bit of a sore subject with the elves. You have not really protected it, and it is not really that large of an area. Mostly just some trees that can take are of themselves.

2- Malinor shall be referred to as the City State of Malinor, instead of the The Princedom of Malinor, establishing it under the military protection of the Empire.

This is sort of silly, don't you think? Erasing a millennium of tradition for an agreement. I will never understand humans. We get your protection though, oh mightiest force to ever grace the Seven Skies.

3- Malinor will maintain its own governance, with an ambassador/representative of Oren placed within the High Council. In the efforts to maintain steady and firm lines of communication between the two peoples.

A futile effort it seems. No one has been sent, but we have managed just fine, governing ourselves without your help at all. One might think Oren was not even participating in this agreement.

4- The Citizens of The City State of Malinor are welcome within the lands of Oren, to be treated as class B citizens (Non-nobles) and free from undue harm, harassment, or questioning. Should they commit a crime they shall be tried in accordance with the law as any citizen of Oren would be.

Good to hear that you no longer persecute elves. I suppose you are admitting to doing it before this agreement was signed, but you know, technicalities~ I feel bad for all the empty ear necklaces though.

5. Trade between The City State of Malinor and other lands in Oren shall not be restricted.

Well, of course you have never tried to stop us from spending our money in Oren. That would just be silly, even for humans.

So, perhaps a better question to ask than "Will the Elves honor their agreements?" is "Will we honor ours?" Considering this recent debacle with the dwarven blood pact, my money is going to be placed on behavior similar to your honoring of the Dalroi Nonaggression Pact.

*Arzota's smile slowly grows as he reads this, chuckling in happiness, and pride in Malinor... the moment people start to notice though-*

"Can't believe some elf would actually have the... the guts to do this."

*He says, attempting to keep a decent, and slightly mocking look to his face, when on the inside he is cheering for the elf... whoever it may be.*

Hadrien ponders the concept, speaking to the invisible audience behind the fourth wall.

"It's quite simple, really. These elves do as we wish them to do when we wish them to do it or else we'll put them to the sword - man, woman and child. The whole idea of them 'finding a loophole' to leave this agreement is redundant as it implies that they could possibly resist us."

"This is literally the snarkiest, edgiest most arrogant piece of **** that my eyes have ever laid eyes on. The writer of this is either a complete fool and he purposely trying to start **** or he is an elf trying to wear dwarf clothing." He grabs the flyer from the message board and stuffs it in his pocket. Henry the gets a few guards to stand by the message board and tear down any more which would be around the city.

Thomas frowns, deeply. He glances down to his son, who was accompanying him to his trip to Abresi,

"These Elves are 'arder at learnin' than that Dagmer boy aftah 'e 'it 'is 'ead. Stubborn like a Chivay, it seems..."

"But they're stupid, too, Father. Can I buy a 'ouse there?"

The aging Grand Marshal chuckles and nods, messing up his son's growing hair as he nods, "Wotevah ye like, Prince."

They continue on their visit to the capital, flanked by two bodyguards known only as Praetors.
