The now aging King Garth Hightower looked at himself in the bronze mirror. His once thick dark brown hair now streaked with grey, the bags under his eyes becoming more prominent as every year passes. He splashes his face with some cold water from a nearby bowl, taking a clean linen towel to dry his face.

Content, he rises from the maple bench and begins to dress himself in simple but regal attire. A dark red jacket with gold accents and an ermine cape with a red trail. His pantaloons made of the finest silk had black, red, and white stripes. A servant fixes and tidies the various layers of clothing before placing the simple crown on Garth's head.

The shortly tenured King then made his way through the palace, the various staff bowing their heads as he passed by. He walked towards the wall entrance, his hand sliding across the railing as he made his way to the gatehouse balcony. It was a chilly day and Garth was glad he wore the heavy ermine cape to cover his shoulders. He nodded to the sentries on duty as he reached the gatehouse balcony flanked by flags of Salvus and Urguan. He looked down at the eager crowd and cleared his throat as he began to speak.

Obligatory reference for below speech.

"My decision will come to a shock to many but I have my reasons and you deserve to hear them. I have sworn fealty to the Dwarven Kingdom of Urguan for the protection of this proud nation. Oren has lost its way - the Flays who once prompted an entire continent to rise up to put them down again hold power and abuse the people. We are forced to watch our backs at all times as much as from threats within and without. We have looked at others as lesser beings, as if we're superior but we forget that all life is superior for the Creator made us all. We look at others as enemies for survival rather than brothers and friends.

Had I not brought Salvus into the Dwarven nation we would have suffered greatly. The peace talks have seemingly failed and in order to protect Salvus from oppression I was forced to make this reluctant decision. I will be viewed as a traitor by Oren for my decision and I will face the consequences of this.

Truth is, I don’t want to be an Emperor or King. That’s not my business. I don’t want to rule or conquer anyone. I should like to help everyone - if possible - Northerner, Southerner - Human - Adunian. We all want to help one another. Human beings are like that. We want to live by each other’s happiness - not by each other’s misery. We don’t want to hate and despise one another. In this world there is room for everyone. And the good land is rich and can provide for everyone. The way of life can be free and beautiful, but we have lost the way.

Greed has poisoned men’s souls, has barricaded the world with hate, has Flayed us into misery and bloodshed. Our knowledge has made us cynical. Our cleverness, hard and unkind. We think too much and feel too little. More than politics we need humanity. More than cleverness we need kindness and gentleness. Without these qualities, life will be violent and all will be lost.

To those who can hear me, I say - do not despair. The misery that is now upon us is but the passing of greed - the bitterness of men who fear the way of human progress. The hate of men will pass, and criminals die, and the power they used to abuse the people will return to the people and Oren will once again be proud!"

King Garth finishes his speech and looks at the crowd for a moment before turning and returning to the palace to prepare for the inevitable backlash.

"Wow. And so I'm being forced to bunga with short and ugly bearded female dwarves now? Well, fawk ye too, Garth."Damien mutteres, leaning against the wall as Garth passes by.

Damien was disappointed. He knew dark times were ahead. Dark times without bunga, mind you. For Damien, there was no greater punishment.

Trevor begins to clap softly, smiling from under his hood and murmuring to himself.

"Ya did good, fella'."

Nienna grins. Today is a good day.

((Ach, I can practically /feel/ the speech some of that was patchwork-plagiarized from.))

Goddard shakes his head, it is not possible. He has ignored the laws of vassalage.

Vuln listens to the speech quietly. It wouldn't be until he returned to his home that he would explode,

"How can he be so stupid! Not only have we lost Salvus this day, but now the Dwarves control the Great Crossing! They can go wherever they please! Attack whomever! Tactical failure. Should have left the city empty and rigged to collapse. Or at least put up a fight!"

His ranting continues for many hours, until he finally passes out from lack of air.

" I don't know who you are. I don't know what you want. If you are looking for ransom, I can tell you I don't have money. But what I do have are a very particular set of skills; skills I have acquired over a very long career as a Flay. Skills that make me a nightmare for people like you. If you let Salvus go now, that'll be the end of it. I will not look for you, I will not pursue you. But if you don't, I will look for you, I will find you, and I will Flay you."

Kaelys Kaden Hightower slowly walks into Kingston, looking around in amazement. Dwarves guarding the walls and fending off the Flays. He even was told he had the freedom to worship any god he pleased, which in his case, was no god. He suddenly started jumping for joy and running around the town in celebration.

The loud moans and cries of the Dwarven leaders come from Kingston, for some odd reason the Flays could not enter to fight, nor would they allow them too. The crying and moaning was too great, so the Flays returned home.
