Your View: The Most Pressing Issues

 Share

Recommended Posts

-A more frequent bridge from staff to player base

-In-game rules being revamped

-Staff team purges

-More events from the ET

-More shiz from the MT (Wow did I go there? Yes. Just note, that this is happening ;) )

-Less restrictions when it comes to magic and villainous actions

-Sub-forums for very active/populated guilds/groups/organisations for an all around better feel

-Still need a more frequent bridge from the staff to the player base

-In-game rules being revamped for less ooc restrictions

-Staff team purges of inactive/useless members

-More events from the ET Yay, more events have actually happened.

-More shiz from the MT We held a meeting, so stuff is actually being processed~

-Less restrictions when it comes to magic and villainous actions, the smaller VA was a nice step.

-Sub-forums for very active/populated guilds/groups/organisations

I would like to just add~ a post about explaining warclaims, or perhaps a player made or GM made vote on what we should do with them, I know MrGreene had some good ideas for some.

(Also with warclaims, if I could add something~ remove conquest)

Just as a note: We're currently looking over and deciding on a warclaim system that was written up by some players and GMs right now!

The professions plugin is far more important than the magic plugin, just sayin'

This might not be 'pressing', but I have found that I always get stuck in a block when fast-traveling to the wilds. Just thought I should say that so it could be fixed.

Also quicker modreq responses.

Finally getting the Magic plugin pushed through would be nice. I mean, /really nice/. I've been seeing a lot of new coders work on all these new plugins, and while I DO like them, I feel that the Magic plugin should be taking precedence over these.

Also,

Something that keeps mounted horses from disappearing forever on server restarts. Not sure how you'll manage that, but I wish you the best of luck.

We need to have a better way to bring players into the server, introduce them, make them feel comfortable, cater to what they want to do and transition that into roleplay. From Rhia's post about the AT acceptance stats, 186(?) people were accepted in September, yet no spike in activity has occurred whatsoever. I understand that LoTC isn't the spot for everyone, but for the few people that get accepted every month and take the time out of their day to wrtie up an app, it should be worth staying on for more than an hour. Back in Aegis, our peaks, if I recall correctly, would be over 200 on the weekends even during the school year, not just on transitioning maps like it has been for the past year. The activity never increased during the summer this year, and it has declined even further with the starting of most schools. When I get on, I, if I'm lucky, see 100 people on the server.

What do I recommend to help this out? Fix the wilds. As is most peoples' initial reaction when they join a minecraft server, they want to punch a few trees, mine a bit, and build a house; it's all that most people are used and comfortable with, even myself when I first joined. We need to, if not on this map, then the next, emphasize the hell out of the wilds as a focal point for new players. But as the new map won't be released for some time, as it seems, I would think we should start this now by perhaps moving the wilds dock to that big empty bay to the right of the CT as soon as you walk out of it and place signs everywhere, informing everyone of where the boat is. Next to this, I could also suggest that we move the GM village to the big area that Native built as soon as you exit the boat, and have the GM's allow for other villagers to inhabit the town and get it to be a somewhat active RP hub for the passing by new players who are focused on playing minecraft. Eventually, those players will probably see the RP and get a bit interested and partake in it themselves, having them smoothly get comfortable with RP and the way the server works.

But I dunno, any thoughts, suggestions, critiques, or feedback?

We have had some profession plug-ins through the two years of LoTC, although what we have not had and demanded for those two years was a magic-plug-in. I see where you're coming from here~ but in my mind a magic system of the plug-in should be at equal value of the professions plug-in or combat by it's own matter.

Alright, I'm seeing a lot of really good ideas in this thread, most of which I'd never think of. Yes, I've been absent from the server for a while, but let me spew a bit.

I do feel that rp should be more fluid. That, at least to me, is what makes it so fun. The calls for a reformation and stream-lining of the war-claim system seem fairly deserved. Most of the wars I've seen have usually resulted in a lot of ooc bickering. I feel that the aforementioned streamlining of the rules could help with this, but guys, If your character or nation is crossed by another, don't take it to the forum. Plot against them and kick some ass. This cause and affect system keeps it ic, fluid, and extremely fun. But most of all be courteous. Maybe they did burn your fields and relish in the lamentations of your women-folk, but you best be a gentleman about dishing out your vengeance.

Now, to the clashing opinions about these new fangled plug-ins. Yes. We need both of them. People say that the magic plug-in is not important because it only affects a small portion of the server. Wrong. Magic is such an important part of the lore and general atmosphere of the server, and it does need and deserve a system to work with. On the other hand, people say that the profession plug-in is less important than the the magic plug-in. Once again, Wrong. People need a way to reliably make their minas. While I personally like to operate of a non-plugin assisted method, the server seems to want that for jobs and such, so I will not argue on that point.

Onto the antag. I was witness to a rather brutal attack by wither skeletons a while back, and I think the antag is great in almost all regards, but didn't the undead already present a threat that unified the playerbase? I think we need to get some good ol' fashion internal conflict going on. Pitting the players against eachother, in my opinion mind you, makes for such interesting rp. We need a proper war that makes a great deal of fun, but doesn't get embroiled in useless ooc rules and bicker-fests. Make fun not lore, right?

New admins are good too. If the other staff and especially the players feel a need for it, by all means, go ahead and recruit a few worthy players, mods, or whatever. They can bring fresh ideas, provide helpful input, and just be good beasts of burden.

MOST IMPORTANTLY OF ALL: I think our staff is doing a GREAT JOB. You can throw accusations at them, but I do feel they are going above and beyond their call. However, feedback is important, and I feel most if not all of this thread is chock-full of constructive feed back. Good hustle staff, and keep up the good work.

As someone who's new to Lord of the Craft, I can atest to some of these problems. I will bring up what RacingBrother said. I made my application and was accepted over a month ago. I logged on, and I spent about 2-3 hours looking for RP. I finally gave up, logged off, and forgot about the server. I went back to doing what I had been before logging on. The only reason I came back, though I don't regret my desicion, was because of an OOC issue on the server that I had been frequenting previously. The problem I see with Lord of the Craft, is how unwelcoming it is to new players. No I don't mean the player base, the community is great and welcoming, I mean the overall server. When I started off, I was very confused. The chat system is rather difficult to get, and even know I occasionally have trouble, and aside from that, short of trying to look through the forums and the wiki, knowing what channel to go to for help, and looking for specific places where RP occurs is a huge hassle. I literally had no idea, and if it wasn't for me forgetting to change my skin, having someone remind me, and than having me help me out after I logged back in, I would have been completely clueless. Even now, after about a week of playing, I still find it difficult to find Roleplay. Why? I think that there needs to be an overall hub to the server. Somewhere, where people can get teleports, or some beginning Roleplay. Possibly have us respawn in some sort of city? I've yet to find another Dwarf to Roleplay with. Also, another thing. Their needs to be more descriptions on something. I just found out what the Wild Docks were, or, at least I think I know. Yes their is plenty of info on the forums, but frankly, they are way too confusing. And I've been navigating forums for what, 3 years now? What I might also suggest, is a sub forum, or even better, a tab on the top of the screen, next to Home, Apply, and such. Have that lead to a bunch of stickied threads where people can't post on/make new threads, and/or a completely different page. Just some starter guides on where to go to find Roleplay, how to gather specific materials, and a guide to the forums; because frankly? I have no idea what to do with the forums. I've yet to find a guild and I'm not sure on how Forum RP is done? Does LotC do FRP's? Or is the forum just for specific cities, guilds, updates, etc. So, to sum it up, make navigation and explanation easier for new members, and make it so that their is a bit more of a sort of "hub" for new and old players. Just my two cents as someone new to LotC.
