The ability to ball idea's with people not a part with the creative process helps quite a lot, even then we were removed a year and a half before Nexus was ousted.

  5. It doesn't entirely make logical sense but it's a witcher-esque theme that has become ubiquitous in LotC lore which is why it's nice. It's very hard to find concepts that are as consistent throughout all lore as Aurum Weapons are. GOOD point. But that calls into question the REASON why Aurum is so successful in the first place. Because gold is a very heavy but VERY soft metal, which would make it even worse as a crushing tool that it would already be as a bladed weapon.
  6. HOLY **** I AM FINALLY DONE Here's my notepad: - Sometimes info given is redundant- for example the full explanation on remedial healing is given in the beginning when mentioning . - Similarly, in abilities the guides+redlines often repeat what is said in the foregoing lore piece. I understand this is because G/RL is a mandatory part of lore writing, so perhaps you can shorten the lore pieces foregoing to be more focused on flavor and less on explaining the rules, as it is redundant. - The amber weaponry ability should be closer to the ambercraft section. - You really like the word 'stygian' - The calligulous flame ability seems to exist more as a scale balancer against Aengulfire and less consistent with the theme of amber-related magics. I'm guessing you're set on this ability so my suggestion is to double down on the flame being a continuous release of amber dust particles coming forth from the shade, which I think is mostly what you meant anyway. - The idea of needing multiple slots for Shade magic is a good concept, especially considering how shade magic enhances other subtypes. - I like the mental setbacks of shades, the hallucinations and whatnot. It makes sense in this context that a shade's mind cannot be entered as well. It would be cool if people actually RP'd this disadvantage at inopportune moments for them. In general, people will stake their claim to the abilities granted to them by lore but play the downsides only as an afterthought. Perhaps a stricter when-and-where on hallucinations, mental decay, etc, can be come up with? On the other hand though, better not to make the piece any longer. - Curing: Basically that's a LOT of T4 mages needed. - Thank you for not including a Foretaker "forced unattunement" clause. I hate those. - Foretakes: So a destroyed shade gem means you can never be a foretaker? - More broadly question about the above: How does the "new" shade gem described near the beginning to the lore link up with the Foretaker's relation to the soul gem near the end of the lore.

  9. Hello and thank you for writing this. While I am theoretically a fan of all ritual-based types of magics due to my own philosophies, there is something about this lore that makes me uncomfortable and I am very much hesitant to see something like this on the server. My notes for this are as follows: "Rite of Firestorm" - just.. hard no on this. I feel like I shouldn't even have to explain this, but the idea that the clique of these new blood mages can just get together and engulf a city in a firestorm is just insane. Nobody is ever going to accept this OOCly if you were to actually use this and they shouldn't have to. The inverse of this ritual would very likely also get OOC rejected if you were going to use it during an ET-run event. The effect is just too powerful, numerical requirements and emote length notwithstanding. A lot of the insight/knowledge rituals will probably get a pass because they are not directly impactful and of a far more buddhist/flavorful/philosophical nature, but reading over the lore (and yes I have read it) the tone of this ritual uses, in my humble opinion, far too profound. It reads like you want blood mages to be some kind of demigod if they keep to the "Awakened" path long enough. But I might be wrong on this, of course. If so, sorry, and if you could explain what kind of RP and character development you had in mind for this subsection of the magic I would be happy to hear it. The blood mage rune system is well transferred this to awakened blood magic. However, here it seems to be a main material cost which would theoretically bottleneck the rituals. However, the runes have no representation in Minecraft so there's nothing really stopping anyone from willing them into existence whenever it is convenient to do so. The lore is insufficiently restrictive on preventing this, as well, acting more as a flavorful addition than an actual difficulty to be overcome. Lastly, the reason we have the in-thread protocol is that the forum version is to be the official version, which we want people to read and which cannot be edited after acceptance. If you do not format it and only paste it in "for protocol's sake" you make the official version much too difficult to read, and therefore it won't. If this gets accepted I hope you are willing to transfer your lore over to the forums in a sufficiently neat way. I understand this is somewhat a harsh judgment, but better you hear it now than when I (and possibly other LMs) N-vote you in the mag. I believe if you are to address my concerns I would be willing to change my stance on this.
  10. As a worldbuilding tool it seems like you sort of posted this at the wrong moment. Given the whole 6.0 think and what I've heard about it this lore would actually have been a perfect addition to at least one area. But of course it is a bit too late to do any significant additions to Atlas now. Other than that: It's nice lore. It genuinely is. I just think that for now it's just gonna sit there and be forgotten by the time it might actually be suitable to use.
  11. This is serious lore. I'm conflicted. On the one hand, I really appreciate lore that envelops and standardizes a specific lore subgroup. Larger-scale organization is sorely lacking and lore like this pushes us in the right direction. On the other hand, I see all kinds of player disagreements stemming from the fact of how people use and interpret "Resonance:. I also remember the Undead just speaking Latin in Aegis as a way to communicate and sound "extra spooky". I feel like Latin translates to the limited medium of MC chatboxes better than a 'resonance' can.
  12. Has been considered but we'd need to get the manpower from somewhere.
  13. Yes but Asulon had diamond armor and alchemy had just come out and there wasn't a plugin handle for it. I've grown more or less numb to the "good old days" argument after people have been using it for 5 maps trying to find he Perfect Regioning System. Nostalgia and partial recollection lead to bad judgment calls. If you'll look back to threads of that time you'll see the "good old days" are dominated by complaints about 100 unarmed/100 axe goons and RP/PvP default bickering.
  14. I'll try to reword it to not offend anyone but I've previously stated my opinion on a Fringe PvP environment and that opinion hasn't really changed. But we as a team are willing to launch 6.0 this way and see where it goes.

  16. The Remove Nexus Chronicles On vanilla Minecraft PvP combat This is my ramblings and thoughts while working on what I believe is the top priority for LotC right now: Remove Nexus. Good news for the PvP purists: 6.0 launch is very likely going to look like a vanilla Fringe environment. This is not so much an executive decision made by the Techs or Admins as it is a necessity due to the massive time constraints we've been exposed to. I've done my best, but ultimately I am only one volunteer and I do have a life outside of LotC (hard to believe I know). Kowaman has quit and 501 has become occupied with other things, leaving me to hold the fort just as in the good old days. So what started as a lot of exciting ideas I had during the tech team meetings of yore has turned into maximum damage control mode to get the Nexus-less systems up to snuff. But all right enough rep-farming let's talk about the issues that have generated probably the most tech-related feedback since my return: Minecraft PvP. Privately I've done a lot of math on this subject and took into account all the effects of percentages and how 1.9 armor calculations drastically changed the balance of a lot of things. I'll spare you the details but here's some important takeaways I've learned: Armor toughness caused total damage affect the amount of armor reduction. Every extra point of damage added had a greater effect than the damage point before it. As a result, weapon percentages became exponentially good. The fact that extra percentages had greater effects made grinding much more rewarding, creating a huge gap between grinders and non-grinders. On diamond armor, these effects are up to 50% more pronounced Basically, Nexus had always been poorly balanced, but the 1.9 armor really pushed it over the edge. Grinding was OP. Furthermore, Nexus had tried to balance axes and make them viable in PvP for RP variety. Then Mojang tried to do the same thing with swing timers and Axes got double-buffed. Luckily techs removed attack speed since then, but of course the other issues remained. With 6.0 it's more or less back to the drawing board. Trust in the techs has been very low for a variety of reasons which I shall also not get into but as we get back into swing we hope to restore the community's faith in our team. I don't believe a minimal vanilla pvp setup is our end game; the lore of LotC is too far advanced for that, and we want to implement mechanical representations of things people have achieved through character development. After all, this has been sorely missing in a grind-based achievement system: Too often were people good at something in-RP, but not mechanically, and vice-versa. The last time I was seriously involved in a skill system was 1.7. Since then the game has progressed a lot and there is a lot more features for us to code and integrate into the RP experience. A lot of this, for better or worse, has affected combat, often in ways we didn't intend. As 6.0 progresses, we want to see how exactly people perceive these combat features and how they feel these fit into a roleplay server, if at all. We must look at the lore side of things as well, as very often things that are "accepted" in lore would be blatantly overpowered if implemented mechanically. Past discussions on e.g, the Necrolye, Spectre and Construct race have definitely proven this. This is something that is going to take a very long time. I hope, given that I continue to have time to dedicate to you all, to be able to discuss the specifics of this in the near future. But for now just enjoy the prospect of diamond-free, enchant-free, Nexus-free roleplay. I'll admit I am very skeptical about this kind of setup and the possible precedent that this baseline might set for future updates, so the best thing for you all to do is to be excellent to each other and prove me wrong.
  17. Meracahe Life is about balance. Every living being has its place in the grand tapestry of nature. All animals hold a piece, even if they know it not. At odds though they may be, predator and prey uphold the balance of nature. Without the predator, prey would multiply and graze the land until it was barren. Without prey, the predator would hunger and fight over scraps of remnant food. The flora bears fruit to feed those who wander, and those who wander propagate the seeds of those who root and prosper. Thus, even the greatest beast owes its life to the tiniest insect. All species come together in a precarious balance that upholds something greater than the sum of its parts. A grand creation, like a living, masterful painting. Meracahe was no great hunter. His form was not splendid to behold. He did not bear a crown of antlers like the great Amaethon, nor fierce tusks like the mighty Moccus. His silhouette did not inspire the fear of a wild wolf, nor the majesty of a proud soaring eagle. Meracahe sought not to boast or bluster his glory, for he was content in the knowledge that he had a part to play. His labor was of utmost importance. Through the work of the River Guardian and his favored kin, the beavers, would the many realms continue to prosper. For it was him who ruled the stream. It was him who made bountiful wetlands out of dusty riverbeds. It was him who dammed the powerful river, and forged the lands onto which many different species would come to settle. They would come together, predator and prey, mighty beast and tiny insect, to the land he had created. His labors often went unnoticed by the other Mani. A thankless job, but one which the Guardian accepted without hesitation. Meracahe knew this was his role in the world This Mani was the first to notice the Elven settlers when they arrived. Their presence was frightening yet fascinating. The River Guardian recognized the ability these Elves had to affect the biomes around them. Thus, if guided properly, they might serve as keepers of the balance for aeons to come. But theirs, too, was the power to destroy everything Meracahe had worked so hard to create. If left unchecked, these Elves and their kin- Humans, Orcs and Dwarves- would unsettle the ecosystem beyond repair. And so the River Guardian was left with a choice: Assist this fledgling tribe and help them grow, or wipe their nascent foothold from the face of the earth. For many nights, Meracahe secluded himself and pondered. The settlers foraged and hunted, but Meracahe let them be. The other animal Princes surely began to notice the new visitors as well- some perhaps even began to conjure up their own designs for these new visitors- but the beaver prince failed to act. Until one day, a young girl wandered past his lodge. The Elfling could not have been more than 12 years old, yet there she skipped too far from her parents or her village. Her humming stirred the Beaver Prince, and so for the first time in months he emerged from his solitude, to gaze upon this young girl. And by next sunrise, the River Guardian decided he would aid the Elves. Meracahe showed his presence rarely, but the elves in the forests would come to know him as a force of benevolence and balance. In time many of the tribes pledged their allegiance to his cause. Ever humble and aloof, worship of the Mani never resulted in his blessings being bestowed. The strange rituals that Elves invented to please the River Guardian remained unanswered and died and quickly as they arose. Sacrifices and words of prayer attempted and discarded. Rarely ever would Meracahe come upon the mortals as he had upon that little girl by the stream, but from the rare encounters with the Beaver Prince it would eventually become clear what he wanted of his followers... Balance. The chosen of Meracahe The great River Guardian holds sway over a host of diverse and versatile critters. His favored, those whose form he has chosen to embody, are the beavers. Humble and hardworking, the beaver is known as the keystone species for its environment. It stands at the very foundation of an ecosystem of countless plants, insects and animals. Where beavers choose to settle, a dam is erected across the river. Soon the lands are doused in overflowing riverwater. In the damp, fertile ground many new plant species can rise up. And with the advent of plants come the animals. And as the populations of these animals increases so does the diversity and variety of new species that one by one are attracted to this rich and bountiful area. Meracahe opens his lands to all: predator, prey, even elves and humans. The great capybara, the largest of all living rodents, are the ones to stand guard over Meracahe’s carefully crafted world. They are gentle creatures. Their movements are slow and calm. Their stature sturdy but not terrifying to behold. Poets write no great works of their majesty and men do not tremble when they approach. But despite this, they are powerful swimmers and can bear great loads. Their wisdom and intelligence is uncanny and often underestimated due to the rodents’ appearances. Those select few whom Meracahe blessed personally had grown even larger, even more powerful. Rumors go around, although they are never confirmed, of capybara the size of horses, which offer themselves as mounts to carry a blessed few Elves in dire need. But conversely, as is fitting of a guardian of balance, Meracahe also keeps communion with the countless colonies of rats that scurry to and fro across the lands. Persistent and tenacious, rats have the unmatched ability to live among the descendants uncaught and unfettered. The walls of mortals, erected to keep out powerful and malignant forces, fail to keep rats from scurrying between the cracks. And as they do so, consequences may be severe. Rats are known carriers of disease. Diseases which, if circumstances permit, wipe out a species with terrifying precision and efficiency. Wherever a certain species have grown too numerous and too cramped, a disease will often rear and benefit from the proximity of viable hosts, spreading all too quickly and leaving in its wake a trail of suffering and death. This, too, is Meracahe’s way. For whether it is rabbits being torn asunder by wolves or the proud stag starving in an area grazed barren, the restoration of balance is cruel to those who have broken it. Nature is kind, giving, but it can also be heartless. Should sickness take you and your kin and you curse at the injustice of the world, try to remember: It is all for the greater good. For balance. ((TLDR: Mani Fanfiction. With Mani bound to play a slightly larger part in the affairs of men I want to balance out the pantheon with a specimen that is a bit more humble and a bit more down to earth. This one fits the profile of a hardworking spirit which seeks no personal glory or splendor but creates an environment in which others can thrive.))
  18. Gentle reminder this opinion is held by a known Snelf hater who is going to remove the subrace from the plugin as soon as 501 isn't looking. So last I remember the Forest Dwarves which have been around since Aegis had, last time I did an activity check, exactly 1 active player. It's basically a dead race. Definitely there is not enough of them to form a settlement, or even a minority in the dwarven settlement. Nobody also bothered to really flesh them out. They are just there. Doomforged were slowly created through lore and finally someone asked me to have them added on the subrace list. I obliged. I never polled their activity so I don't know how it panned out. It'd be nice to see where that went. Now Sea Dwarves, at least, have you, and you are going to work hard to make this a reality as Tundrak once upon a time worked hard to put Snow Elves on the map. And you have a backstory to explain the ethnic differences between Sea and Mountain dwarves. Good stuff. I commend you for this. Still, I've never once in my life been able to get a subrace removed from the list. Which leaves the question: if you flunk, and give up on getting an active community for the Sea Dwarves, what are we as a server going to be stuck with? Another Forest Dwarf remake? More bloat to the subrace list, distracting and discouraging new players trying to learn about the server and what they want to play? This is why most people ask you to start as a culture. They want to see you are serious, and this idea has potential. My standards for subrace status are pretty high. But other people may disagree. I am certain you will convince more and more of them as you build a repute for yourself ingame. This is what the snow elves did, although their repute was of a "let's genocide them again and again" nature, there is no such thing as bad publicity.
  19. Okay that is pretty cool and I like the way you wrote it. This isn't the first trickster archetype lore I've seen, but it's nice to see this as a creature. I am especially pleasantly surprised you managed to avoid all of the things common in CAs that I get peeved about, so thank you very much for that. The first part though, the Mortal Tresspass, seems very un-interactive though. Also I am not quite sure if you meant for people to make a CA to allow their character to be consumed by a creature like this, or if you meant for some random NPC to be the starting point of someone making a CA. You may want to expand on their relationship with the Farseers a bit, though. You say Farseers can banish the imps. But how this might happen, I don't quite get. If these creatures need to hijack a Farseer for a spirit walk would the Farseer almost notice? If not, how often? And what are the governing rules for this?
  20. When people complain about antags motivation such as the above are usually something the community objects to. I can see the theme you are going with here, and I'm not opposed. But without the appropriate level of depth there's a significant risk that players will resent the one-dimensionality. Previous antags have been retconned for this reason.
  21. It... kinda reads like a biography of a PC that someone had played from Aegis. Perhaps a very advanced player character someone got very attached to. Except this character is grandfathered to its current situation instead of having learned and experienced all these things themselves ingame. This may be a good thing or a bad thing. At its worst, it could be a ET trying to quicken a character to maxed out development so they can be OP without putting in the effort. This is not the case here, since you yourself aren't ET. And since, in essence, any ET can pick up this storyline, it's of course not a personal boon. However in practice, I can fully imagine this is going to become a single ETs char, if that. But bottom line this lore focuses a lot on a very excessive backstory and way less on what a player will/should/can experience on the front end. That is, there's way too little about what would happen if an ET is going to make somebody encounter Buuzk. All this history is not all that important for an ET creature in my humble opinion. Thus, I don't think the priorities this lore has chosen are right.
  22. Doesn't actually launch Golems -1 . No tis good but you are flirting a bit with the techlock here. I think there's going to be a bit of a discussion on which side of the "no steam engines" rule this falls. As you may know there's been a bit of an uproar when runecannons were allowed and normal cannons weren't. I'll admit I'm not the most knowledgeable on this but I intend to find out the specifics eventually. As far as the lore itself goes it's good but I find it hard to picture the contraption even using the picture of the MC creation and the way you described it. I can't quite construct the mechanical contraption in my head. I end up just seeing a metal trebuchet with some steamy stuff coming out of the pivot. Maybe a schematically drawing would help or maybe a description per component to help put it all together-- or maybe I'm just visually impaired. Either way good luck
  23. Perhaps fleshed out isn't the best term to use. I don't necessarily mean longer I just mean creative and original so that people feel it really adds a unique value to the existing pantheon of Aengudaemons.
