The whole 'how can you be named for a language that is lost?' is a very interesting question, actually. The answer: We generally name our children after ourselves (or family members), after important figures (biblical names come to mind). A parent can easily give a child a reused name without realizing its meaning. Many of you walk around with Latin, Greek or Celtic names without knowing it. Elven is the same. An added benefit: we can easily take a character and make their name mean something in Elven by saying 'you had an Elven name all along and never realized it.' Minor differences in spelling we chalk up to entropy over the years.

Maintenance Update: Athera was repaired, but certain areas will still have been rolled back to an arbitrary point last week. Skill XP and regions should be perserved.

Everyone's regions were retimed (as in you pass the activity check for free). Activity tracking will resume once server is accessible.

Status of maintenance: 1) Wait for Tythus to heal to get slightly less broken backup version 2) churn through ridiculously huge WE mistake with LB 3) churn through many smaller WE mistakes with Worldedit brute force replace 4) acquire GM team to fix the problems 2 and 3 caused.

Or put the server up and remove small chunks of the glass at a time. There, problem solved. And I swear if it isn't up by tomorrow night I'm going to be angry, I've been waiting ages for this war to take place just to wait another week because a staff member f*cked up on his job when it can be fixed by either //undo or remove it in small chunks. It seriously isn't that hard and Yes, I have used world edit before and that is how you fix it.

Maintenance might take a while. Between Tythus being sick and a very unfortunate coinciding of events. I wouldn't recommend waiting up for the server to come online, I estimate several hours of maintenance at least.

'Freedom of RP' means more factions like the Snow Elves. Now I have nothing against either the Snow Elves or the way Oren&co decided to deal with them (which is now ending in full-on genocide from what I can tell), but I do know it is causing a lot of grief for many players. Grief is not fun. Fun is what we want. Yet this kind of player-fueled action, grief and all, would be the norm of cleaning up 'bad' lore, and I don't see it ending up well. The Snow Elves can be a great bunch, but due to unfortunate circumstances they are now finding mostly hostile interaction that tends to seep into OOC. I'd rather players be spared that kind of treatment in the future. Better the gentle denial of the Lore Team straight away. As a staff team, it is easier to address them in dialogue or hold them accountable.
