8000$ is nothing, that's just the accumulation of donation money from five+ years of being online with some frequent updates to the site itself. Also note that Tythus and other devs have likely put some of their own money into the website which increases its value.
Apple for example isn't actually worth billions of dollars, it's their assets that accumulate up to that. LoTC's site assets are worth 8000 dollars.

thanks to saving up my only funds i was able to buy 7 new doujins and get 14 new drawings of lewd anime girls comissioned. i may not have much left but at least i've got enough material to be busy for a week!
