~ House Stafyr ~

 

House Stafyr currently led by Lord Farley Stafyr II, son of Lord Edmund Stafyr is a long living and lasting noble house, one that has stood for many generations and shall continue to stand for many more. The house has been through its large share of tragedies and has suffered and gained greatly in their time. The now great house was once a small family of harmless lumberjacks, friends to Oren after providing their skilled services in the lumberjack trade. After a few years within the lands the house grew and grew, expanding as the thought dead members began to reunite within the small hold of Huntshill on the island of Elysium. House Stafyr was once nothing but a few mere lumberjacks, now great lords who follow a moral code of Law, Honor and loyalty, such a code is expected to be followed by its servants as well. This mainly applying to the guardsmen of Schattenburg.

 

~ Moral Code ~

 

The Guardsmen of Schattenburg must follow a simple code followed by all nobles of the Stafyr name, the code being: Law, Honour, loyalty. Three simplistic traits that must be taken on, adapted and drilled into the mind of the guardsmen so that they may server the name Stafyr properly.

 

~ Lodgings ~

 

Currently the guard force consists of those living within the town and the guards whose quarters are within the Schattenburg barracks, all guards are offered food and lodging within the barracks.

 

 

~ Ranks of the Guardsmen ~

 

Town Guardsman: The lowest rank within the town guard, the town guardsman are tasked with several different duties around the town depending on the location they are assigned, those locations being: Gate duty, patrolling of the city, patrolling of the docks. Each one separates into its own sub-categories. They’re the first line of defence of the town and are sworn to hold the kings peace. Town guards are asked to swear under the morals of house Stafyr, also an oath of an allegiance.

Patrolling of the docks: would require checking of and officialising docking permits, searching through merchant ware for illegal and smuggled goods or people and dealing with those who do not have the required certification within the harbour, they’d speak to the dockmaster to learn of the tasks that are needed to be complete normally or their assigned sergeant. They are also tasked with watching the seas for any incoming ships or enemies landing parties.

Patrolling of the town: would require for one to be on watch around the streets of [insert town name here] checking for those who are committing illegal activities, along with protecting the people of the town. They’d also be tasked with the arresting of any criminals and providing a sense of safety for the people of the town.

 

The Stafyr Manor: This is one of the highest duties to be tasked with within the guardforce, the common guardsman is entrusted to be placed within the ruling lords own home and guard his family from any who may dwell in the manor with an unhealthy nature, they are also there for when a Stafyr wishes to travel, they are to immediately inform the sergeant in charge of the Manor and become the personal bodyguard to the travelling Stafyr. Should a Stafyr at any time feel unsafe or untrusting they may request the watch of a guardsman or another guardsman should they have personal mistrust of the one previously assigned.

 

Along with the several tasks of the guardsman that can be appointed, they also most follow a specific class within the guardforce, this being either a crossbowman or a city guard, both require you to fulfil the previous mentioned tasks at hand however give you an option of weaponry should your specialties lay elsewhere.

Wargear of the town guard: Is assigned and mandatory to be wielded and worn during times of active service, from the Stafyrs coffers being so full the guardforce is often granted better armour than most peasant guard forces would be equipped with. The common guardsman is gifted a set of upper plate armour and a visor helmet along with a halberd as their primary weapon, used for their longreach and easy use for crowd control along with a secondary weapon of an arming sword. They however may opt for a second set of a crossbow as their primary and an arming sword as their secondary, however this class can be pushed upon someone as mandatory should crossbowmen be lacking within a town patrol or force.

 

 

 

 

Guardsmen Sergeants: Sergeants of the guardsmen are few in number, long serving memebers of the guard who have achieved their rank through merit and loyal years of service. Commonly found to be the veterans of the guard they are in charge of patrols and tasks they are assigned to, leading the many guardsmen under them in the Captains stead. Sergeants are assigned the exact same task as the other guardsmen, however they are commonly found leading them in squads while doing so.

 

They must answer to Lord Stafyr and the Captain of the guard, also depending on certain circumstances higher ups within different military orders that may visit the lands of Lord Stafyr.

Leading of Guard: As a sergeant they are tasked to control a contingent of guardsmen within their everyday tasks, following the captains order so he does not have to be everywhere at once. They are squad leaders and common veterans, often picked by Stafyr as prefered bodyguards.

 

The Stafyr Manor: This is one of the highest duties to be tasked with within the guardforce, the common guardsman is entrusted to be placed within the ruling lords own home and guard his family from any who may dwell in the manor with an unhealthy nature, they are also there for when a Stafyr wishes to travel, they are to immediately inform the sergeant in charge of the Manor and become the personal bodyguard to the travelling Stafyr. Should a Stafyr at any time feel unsafe or untrusting they may request the watch of a guardsman or another guardsman should they have personal mistrust of the one previously assigned.

 

Wargear of the sergeants: Sergeants are equipped with better gear, equipped in heavier and better quality plate they are also given an arming sword and kite shield as their primary weapon. Along with such wargear the benefits of the sergeant are private rooms within the barracks. Sergeants are not offered the second set of ranged weaponry however may request a crossbow from the quartermasters stocks.

 

 

Captain of the Guard: There is only one captain throughout the entirety of the guardsmen force of Stafyr. Entrusted by the reigning lord of Stafyr he is set with the organizing and managing of the Stafyr houses family and the guardsmen force. The captain is most commonly picked as a friend of the house, one with years of experience with leading and looking after troops. His experience and friendship creating a fierce leader and a kind man which creates a drive to protect his liege house. The captain of the guard is given the most free will to do as he pleases within the force of guardsmen however he must also follow the set moral laws and swear to keep the kings peace. The tasks of the Captain are completely different, while if the force is undermanned he may be required to do tasks he is most commonly found behind the scenes, managing the guardsmen and assigning tasks of for the guardsmen to complete.

 

Promotions: A simple task of the Captain is deciding with the lord of the house on who is due for a promotion, however this is not a common task as their are not many ranks to ascend.

 

Leader of the Guardsmen: The captain while in active duty is in charge of the guard force and must instruct it in combat and in simple tasks, he is expected to be a key rolemodel for the fresh guardsmen and a leader to them as well.

 

Friend of Stafyr: While not a must, it is indeed expected of the Captain of the guard. They are expected to create and hold a strong friendship with the members of the house, treating them as if they were extended family themselves however with higher respect.

 

Military Commander: The captain of the guard is a respected and commonly acknowledged military leader in the Stafyrs eyes, as such he is often trusted with attending talks of war as the lord of Stafyrs advisor.

Wargear of the Captain: A captain of the guard is allowed to choose any weapon he wishes to wield while in active service, most commonly one he is comfortable with. He is supplied a full set of plate armour and a set of chain, he is allowed to customise his appearance however he is advised to still wear the Stafyr tarbard or colors to represent Stafyr.

 

 

~ The Borders of Stafyr ~

The Stafyr borders are known as the county of Schattenburg and within it the Barony of shadowcoast. Within these direct borders the  protection and security of all within the lands , including nobility and royalty goes down to the guardsmen of the lands, along with other active military forces who are granted jurisdiction within the lands of Stafyr. Within the border the Guardsmen hold the right to detain those who are seen as a breach in security and are a risk to others, they are also given the rite to hold and question any who they may see as suspicious or shady characters, along with such they may also request for arms to be handed over so that the chance of a violent outbreak is halted. The neighbouring lands mainly being Orenians pose no threats currently to Schattenburg, with house Horen and the see bordering them the town is left essentially with only one worry. An increase in annoying acts has occurred on the border of the halfling lands, themselves create barricades and showing up en masse at the border of Schattenburg, a large enough force that a military order had to be called for aid to end the swarm using fear tactics. Current border raids still exist between the rivalling groups.

 

 

~ Duties in times of war ~

 

In peacetimes the guardforce is the only military force of House Stafyr but during times of war, the guardforce is to train and equip the summoned peasant levy and help them in battle.

They are to act as the elite forces of House Stafyr, and combat the enemies of Oren and Stafyr in the frontlines with the Stafyr peasant levy as their aid and assistance.

 

History

 

The Schattenburg regiment can trace its legacy back to the old Stafyr houseguard that was formed after the dismantling of the Stafyrian guardians with the death of Emmanuel Stafyr. The former lord Marquis Edmund Stafyr was the first kommandant of the houseguard and defended the House from Elysium to Anthos and until the death of Marquis Godwein I. Stafyr. After that Edmund himself took over the house and his close friend Merek Moonstrike was later made kommandant. But Lord Edmund’s life was cut short from disease and Merek soon disappeared after his death. The houseguard was later disbanded during the reign of King William III of Oren.

 

During his reign the Chancellor of House Stafyr, Behmen Stafyr met with the lord grand marshal of the Kingdom of Oren, Duke Adorellan Baelish and was granted his permission to reform the houseguard in the shape of a Royal army regiment but shortly after this approval was granted the King abdicated and Lord Baelish was removed from Grand Marshal.

 

The plans had however already been set in motion and the regiment was once formed serving under House Stafyr and the crown of Renatus. As tradition all recruits once promoted to gardists must swear loyalty to House Stafyr and the Kingdom of Renatus, to ensure not only the loyalty of the regiment but also the loyalty of House Stafyr to the crown. However after the removal of all banner forces the regiment was disbanded, after five years of being without guards Stafyr once again recreated its force with the assistance of ex-nobles of Oren, formerly serving in the chapter of the Lion together. The new guardsmen of Schattenburg were founded and the doors open to recruitment once more, the oaths were retaken and the tabards were dorned. Another Stafyr guard yet again reformed.

Daniel takes hold of the recent applications delievered to him by the courier boy running the aviary, he nods his thanks and sends the boy on his way before piling the applications atop his paperwork load. A muttering of incoherent curses spitting from his office as he brings up his recent shortened vacation. 

 

"Finally finish the profiles and try go on vacation... But, nooo... 'Captains have to run the military', 'Captains have to guard people!' Stupid.." The rest of the muttering is left inaudible as he finishes up the final assesment report on Isaac, next moving on to write the reports for the warrant of search in Schattenburg for heretical items most likely hidden in the town. After a short while he finishes up both and sighs, dipping his quill into the ink that tapping off the excess before looking over to the pile. 

 

"First up..." He takes hold of Drakes application, skimming over the name and age before referring to the skills. Nodding in approval he continues reading, taking in all the information. "Seems sturdy enough... As long as he isn't too wild and free spirited we should do fine..." Daniel reaches out for a fresh piece of parchment, beginning to write up his reply to Drake.

 

"To Master Shadeleaf,

                                    your application to join the guardsmen of Stafyr has been reviewed over by the current standing Captain and in his eyes he has deemed you fit for active services within the guardsmen of Stafyr, he welcomes your knowledge of magic and training in combat with open arms to join him. Your name has reached his ears before as a hearty man and a strong warrior from previous family of his. Welcome to the Guardsmen, Vuln. You may report to Ser Kamura or Ser Alphonz for assigning of bunk, wage, parade uniform and war gear for your Guardsmen rank, please report to the barracks of Schattenburg immediately." - Ser Kamura

 

With that Daniel chucks his quill to the side and lets it glide off the desk, folding up the parchment and reaching for the candle burning infront of him he tips it and allows a set amount of melted wax to hit the parchments folds. Quickly reaching over for the seal assigned to him, he stamps it down and seals the letter. 

 

"Done, now for the next application..." Daniels reaches out for the next, reading over and redoing the same progress as of Drakes application. After reading over that he has had previous experience within the Stafyr guard he decides his verdict and places down the application in its original pile, then reaching out to grab a fresh parchment he searches for his quill only to curse once again and fumble to reach it. Once done with mucking about he begins the process of writing his reply.

 

"To Master Kryoas,

                               your application has be reviewed over by the current guardsmen captain and you have been deemed fit for active service. Your years of supposed military service in several guilds may have wavered the decision, however a previous guardsmen of Stafyr is always welcomed back with open arms in the end. I trust your loyalty shall stick to one guild this time, and your swordsmanship be kept well trained. Welcome to the guardsmen of Stafyr, Flo'rean. You may report to Ser Kamura or Ser Alphonz for assigning of bunk, wage, parade uniform and war gear for your Guardsmen rank, please report to the barracks of Schattenburg immediately." - Ser Kamura

 

Daniel smiled faintly as he finished the final reply, looking to the dying candle and letting out a small sigh. "Now, now I can finally rest..." He begins to fold the parchment up, reaching out for the remaining candle and repeating his sealing progress, stamping it once again. Bundling up the letters he looks out to the empty room and realises he has to send them off himself, he lets out a further flurry of curses before hefting himself up and off to deliver the notes. He leaves them in the hands of the aviary workers and heads off back to his office, slumping down onto his desk and flicking the candle to devoid it of life. The room left silent and dark as he drifts off to sleep in his chair.

Why do you wish to join the guardsmen? - 

For many years now I have traveled around the world looking for my grandfather Lee Scorsby. After finding his grave down south I decided to backtrack his steps for as long as it was possible. His journal told me many things. 

A couple of years before he joined the Ministry of Contemplation, his journal told me that he was a doctor within the House of Stafyr. He wrote many good things and seemed to highly respect the people who lived there. It was also there where his journal seemed to have started and my journey is now at an end. For so many years I have looked for him. Never really expecting find him. I am no doctor as he was. I had to fight my way though a land devastated by bandits and marauders over many years.

Even a wanderer gets tired of walking at some point and I seem to be there. My grandfather thought of you as friendly and respectable people. It would be my honor to serve and to settle down among people I may one day consider my own friends.

 

Do you have any military experience? -

 

The only military experiance that I would call valid would be the months I spent as a guard for a caravan. It was me and two others who handled the security. 

I would consider myself pretty decent with a bow though I have not used it for a couple of months now when food is very easily acquired from traders than actually hunting for it yourself. I prefer using my sword most times

 

Why should we accept you? - 

 

Even though there is no way to prove that what I have said is true. I still belive that I could be a big use for you. I'm experianced in combat, considers Honor to be some of the most important features in any person.

I feel obligated to serve to my grandfathers standards and I want to help defened the people he trusted.

Alphonz begins flipping through the paper work on his desk in the barracks, a slight grunt escapes him as he picks up Igor's application. He looks around for his quill and ink pot, searching under piles of parchment and under his desk, suddenly a large shadow looms over him along with heavy breathing, Alphonz slowly turns. "Oh, it's just you Trub.." Trub holds out a quill and an ink pot, Alphonz takes it, waving him off before sitting at his desk, cracking his knuckles, dipping the quill into the ink pot, scribbling on the parchment.

                             The Captain and I have reviewed your application to the guard and deemed you worthy to join the Guard. Dear Mr Markus

Me and Daniel have eaten some beef and decided to moo'oove you into the accepted area for apps (the bin) oppose to the denied area (the bin). Please report to Daniel Kumura for the next stage in serious guard life or me if you want to eat beef too.

 

Rickard throws the app in the bin and then scrunches the letter into a ball and throws it at a peasant who picks it up running out and would then proceed to throw it at Markus.

Daniel hands over the sealed parchment to the waiting boy, waving him off as he sits down at his desk once again.

 

Should any walk past the Stafyr Guardsmen barracks they would be able to see the parchment, recently posted onto the archway outside.

 

"A notice to all, men of the guard and people of Schattenburg. After many of hours within the map room of the Guardsmen barracks, Captain Kamura and the two active sergeants have deemed one current guardsmen worthy of promotion and a pay raise, the guardsmen of choice is Igor Scorsby. He is to take on all roles and benefits of the sergeant position within the guardsmen effective immediately. Such honour has been granted from his active and dutiful service to House Stafyr, may he ever serve and ride beside us." - Captain Kamura.

Do you have any military experience? - A bit, I was trained under squire-ship for most of my younger years, I had become a field medic of sorts, but I can swing a sword as well as any man.

 

Why should we accept you? - Why? Well, simply put, I wish to spend the rest of my life doing something worth while, and if that means protecting a Noble family, I would gladly do so.

 

Do you believe you have what it takes? - If strength is what is needed, I will become stronger then what I am. If brains is what is needed, I will become smarter. I am willing to do what it takes to protect those I find dear to me.
