My Role And Future Plans

Greetings, everyone!

As many of you are aware, I was recently promoted to the rank of Administrator. With Danny's resignation, it was clear that we were in need of at least one more admin. Thus, I hope that I can sufficiently fill in the void that was created when he left. Anyhow, let's not dwell on the past, but the future!

As with every admin, each of us is given a specific role that we focus on in addition to our general responsibilities. I suggested the role of Advisor of Teams back in September, and it has finally become a thing. However, I'm sure that many of you either have no clue what I am referring to or how this is going to work. As a result of this, I have decided to create a thread that not only explains my role in detail and how I plan to fulfill it, but also my future plans as an administrator.

Let's start with the role of Team Advisor, Advisor of Teams, Team Leader of Teams, Head of Teams -- or whatever you wish to call it, as each name essentially refers to the same thing. I won't be acting as just an advisor, however, but also as a manager or leader of each team. There will still be Team Leaders, but the Advisor of Team's word is above all (team-wise). The advisor has the power to promote and demote team leaders, and they can also make changes within each team. If a team leader is found to be slacking or wrongfully fulfilling their team leadership duties, they will be demoted and replaced. Decisions can also be overridden and such, but hopefully we won't have to come to that. So now that we've gone over a basic overview, you may be asking yourself how I plan on ensuring that each team is operating at full capacity?

  1. First and foremost, there will be a monthly progress report gathered from each team. This is similar to a review or check-up, as it allows us to review progress and changes within each team specifically. There will be a format unique to each team, and each team leader will be expected to send their progress report to the Advisor of Teams before the end of the month. The progress report will contain information like roster changes (additions and removals), current projects, responsibility adjustments or abilities, and future plans. There may also be more team specific questions like server applications reviewed, server-wide events performed, plugins implemented, et cetera.
  2. Secondly, a handful of members from each team will be reviewed on a monthly basis to ensure that each team is in a healthy state and that progress (activity) is being achieved. Questions could include their opinion of the team leader, what their recent projects have been or what their recent activity has been committed to, comments on their peers (any troublesome members?) and changes they may dislike.
  3. My third aim is to get involved with each team and to make sure that their members are carrying out their responsibilities. While progress reports can prove to be great statistics, first hand experience is always more valuable. There's no better way to see how active a team is than by getting involved hands-on.
  4. Expanding on my third point, I will focus much of my time on ensuring that each team is receiving the support and assistance that they require. This will be achieved by spending time with each team (point 3), helping them with any inquiries or requests, and doing what I can to ensure that nothing is hindering their ability to perform their responsibilities.

As you can probably tell, the Advisor of Teams role appears pretty daunting at first. However, the process is much simpler in action. I plan on doing whatever it takes for the betterment of the server, and team direction is something that we have been lacking as of late. We need someone who can crack the whip when it is needed. We need someone who can make the tough decisions and act on them swiftly without waiting months on end. We need an Advisor of Teams, and that is what I hope to bring to you.

Now, onto my future plans for the server and what I hope to achieve during my time as an administrator. I have always stood by my goal of aiming to do whatever it takes to make LotC the best that it can be, and I will continue to do this by applying my goal to my administrator duties as well. Most importantly, I believe we need to look into what made LotC so attractive and so addicting. A majority of the community feels as if we are in a bit of a low in terms of overall fun and craving to play on the server, and I hope to bring that back. I can't do this alone, however, and I will be asking for your help in the coming week in order for us achieve this. The Lord of the Craft is a family, and we must do this together as a family. My "future plans" may not seem like much at first glance, but I plan on expanding upon this idea greatly as the week progresses. It's quite late now and I have a test tomorrow, so I will have to end the thread here. I would like to thank each and every member of the community for giving me the opportunity to improve the server for the better. I have faith in you guys (and girls), so I ask that you put some faith in me -- I won't disappoint. Thank you.

P.S. I apologize for any grammar mistakes or errors in my sentence structure. I found it hard enough to write this thread without falling sleep. Please overlook them!

Best wishes with this position, Viper, I hope this works out well. On a side note, will you release the reports of each team publicly? Or will they stay hidden?
