I don't think Leland realizes that if we removed everything he's asked for lately we'd be left with a barren field of "y's my modreq's not being done help lazy GM's omg"

Removing things isn't a solution.

Iunno. Removing the MT and Villain rules sure helped the server out alot.

Hmm, well alright that's a good point, albeit still a controversial one.

The ET and staff he singled out are separate cases altogether I feel, they aren't quite like MAT or VAT.

It's defenitely a case by case; I think the ET should be pushed to the side; not so much focus put on them. Start putting pressure on players to make events, not the ET. Marginalize them. Right now, almost /only/ ET make events, and are allowed to do it. Any other time, and players get the lore/banhammer onto them for silly reasons.

I haven't seen one ET come to a city and spice things up. I don't expect players to put their foot down and try to add some spice of their own. What I really want is something that isn't an antag event. I don't mind the antags, but for once I want something original.

The last time I tried to create RP myself, which I might add quite harmless, people either ignore it or get pissed off.

swgrclan is a great example what ET actors should be. Lead by example and frankly - swgrclan shows great and positive attitudes towards all groups and catering to all.

As for ET builders - It seemed like Kahzo and I were the really only active builders. It would seem him or myself would be building nearly on a daily basis whether it be for events or just making some ruins to explore.

As for antag - I like how people complain of a group that can maybe 3 shot you if you're lucky but back in Aegis the undead had spells that 1 shot people with NO cooldowns. You guys are seriously hilarious on this perspective.

At no point in this thread did I say the Antags were unbalanced. All I said is the way they are going about being a server wide threat is wrong.

Also, a vast majority of the people I have seen argue against the removal of the ET seem to be on the ET, seems a bit like they don't want to lose their rank to me.

Yeah. Having antag battles and other RP things made into rigid events that are not affected by what's happening in the world and have little effect on the world is bad. Sometimes they do take-over land and have an effect, but whenever they do that the event is always announced several days before with an exact time and location announced. In Aegis there could be some broadcasts an hour to ten minutes before in game and so you were encouraged to stay logged on in case some major Undead attack happened. And long before the ET I had seen players RP'ing as ancient spirits, ghosts of soldiers, and all that. The ET do their job well and provide good events, but the problem is that these events are stopping players from making their own RP and events. The only player-made events we have left are weddings, coronations and battles. Two of which are very rare, and the while battles do get people to log on, they just log on an hour before the battle and get off again an hour after.

This.

Also, on another note: The event team seems to do the right events at the wrong moments or places.

What do I mean with this? Simple..

Arnorian has mentioned how, in some cases, he was having nice peaceful RP, and then a massive dragon shows up to ruin it. Although it is not always the case, the ET should be careful with their events. If there is a battle going on, you are free to assume the players have a disposition to conflictive RP and an event that is related to this. However, if there´s a village, and you show up with some conflict RP event, people are going to feel mad (in my case, those I am rping with and myself just ignore the event altogether, because we are in no disposition to be involved in conflictive RP, since we were having peaceful RP for a reason). This means the ET should classify their events and wait for the right moment to make them. If it´s a peaceful  event, a comical one, or perhaps an adventure, players will be more open to it. If it´s based around conflict... Yeah, don´t expect a lot of smiles and cheers.

Nothing is stopping you from creating RP yourself. Get out there :) The ET does not hog the GMs they create an extra layer of staff you can call on to assist you. The only thing stopping you is your own determination.

While we try to have members take into account the place they are bringing rp to, some places are either split in their chosen course of the event, or in your case the ET member is simply oblivious. In cases like these, you can bring up the circumstance to a leader (firespirit44), or one of the managers(myself, fiend, or swgrclan). If things like these are brought to our attention, we will  work to correct them and work with the ET member that is in question.

In regards to ET members inadvertently stopping player-run events. Sporadic's reply answers that perfectly. We're not stopping you from doing them, players just have to take steps on their own to accomplish them. If said players wish for heolp from ET members, or from help from the team in general, they can contact individual members or post in the event proposal section.

By all means, create player-run events, we're not stopping you.

This is so entertaining to read, I might start paying top dollar for the entertainment.

1. This is supposed to be a dynamically, evolving fictional world. This isn't you sitting down writing some fiction where you have control over all elements in the fiction. You don't like that? Leave LotC, buy yourself a journal from Barnes and Nobles and get cracking like George RR Martin or JK Rowling. That is personally the funnest aspect of LotC is the variation and changing variables. You can't change that, it is the nature of the beast in that LotC is a multiplayer video game with everyone making their own pitched decisions and the natural elements are more or less played out by the staff and Event Team. Get with the program, if you don't go outside much, you don't realize that this fictional world follows the random tandem of the real world. I can step outside and see it rain, I can step outside and have some man walk up to me with a gun, I can step outside and see a car race, I can step outside and see a man get struck by lightning on a stormy night, so on so forth. Get willing or get out and write yourself a book.

2. By extension, since we can generally accept that the staff and Event Team control the natural elements, we don't have any strings attached to your characters. It is your task to make personable characters who interact and organize themselves. If you can't play chief, recognise you are an Indian and fall into the category and get good at it. Not everyone is their own little maverick, stop lying to yourselves and get into grunt status, I have fun with it myself.

While I was on the ET, Kai was by far the most impressive person on the team. He was extremely analytic and did a great job identifying the strengths and weaknesses of the team. It's only natural that he eventually came to be the Head of the ET. Likewise, from what I've heard, Dreek is another exceptional ET who really knew how to do a good job as an ET member. If together, they can't lead the ET to doing a really solid job, I don't think there's any real change that can happen to improve it.

If the ET really is doing poorly, remove the team, make the best ET into GM's, and have them be responsible for server events. It would certainly be a good way to assess GM activity on the server. However, I'd have no real way of knowing this to be true or not. Also, this won't happen almost certainly, but #YOLOSWAG

I was linked this while engaged in nice dungeon run on Mabinogi. So I'll throw in this:

tumblr_mz7m7ld4IC1qhub34o1_250.gif

You want an event, you PM an event team member and 85% of the time you'll get an event. I did events when I was asked and sometimes I would go around Anthos to look for opportunities to provide events. I never interfered in RP that wasn't in need of event as thats rude and obviously not the point of the Event Team. The Event Team is there to provide events at your leisure or theirs. You don't see them all the time because ET are usually in vanish, watching and waiting.

Server sponsored protag and antag groups are silly imo and I don't know why ET participate in GL and Black Scourge, they shouldn't IMO but its whats been written up. It'll all be over soon. As for your random bit, thats because its a temp map. Thats how it is with any temporary thing, LotC or some other server.

I don't know what else to write because the entire idea of removing the ET is silly. Not because I'm bias towards it(Which I am) But because the ET provides the events that players can't create by themselves, I.E. Exploring ruins of old, monster fights, questlines, etc.

In fact, one of my fondest memories of eventing was one of my first, where I worked with Tilted and we provided a lot of atmosphere emotes while two people explored this library in the north and eventually happened across one of the bohra cities. I even created of my favorite concepts for monsters(Which I should've rp'd more but meh), the Frostbitten. The cool thing about events is that they can happen on the fly sometimes and they can take some really cool twists and turns and its up to the Event Team to provide these events.

That seems a bit to me like a really childish argument. You know why they took the position of ET? For a service to bring fun roleplay to people and they sure have received a lot of damn thanks from people. Oh, how do I know this? Well, considering one, why the hell would they fake saying they receive said feedback and get excited over it? Two, Ive been in the OOC range of people thanking them and been there for the great follow-up RP the PLAYERS make. Three, Ive been in voice with people at these events and I can hear the excitement in them and the things they say about how great said events are.

Four, I personally thank them when I can remember to because they have all been amazing.

Puring Gms would naturally result in getting new ones, that point doesn't make much sense.

No, no it wouldn't naturally result in getting new ones. Our current GM's are stationed because they were assessed as sufficient or excellent for the position.

This kind of assessment takes time, and naturally it detracts from our work. If we are preparing for 4.0 and making big changes, it is counterproductive to tear apart the foundations that define us and begin reforming them.

Teaching GM's how to properly do their job is not as trivial as you have repeatedly defined it to be. It takes time to set up teams and moderators, and it takes time to settle in. This period of settling in can take weeks, where the GM still needs to get themselves acquainted with the moderator environment and for the most part simply enact modreq workhorses. Workhorses are neat, but that shouldn't be what we are looking for. GM's with the right ideologies, mindset, and of course work ethic, all these elements play equal parts.

Meanwhile about the actual topic of this thread, I support Sporadic's statement. If you want to roleplay, nobody is stopping you, go out, have fun, create the events yourself you were never limited. The motivation is your problem, the ET isn't literally sucking away your motivation if you have a great idea you believe would be fun, they're there to help you and perhaps even give access to certain elements of the server that would make your event even more fantastic.
