{Revision} Adding Pvp Flags To Nation Cities/regions, And A Pvp Flag Plugin.

Now, I'm remaking this thread once more. Because I feel that adding PVP flags to regions at the owners discretion. I recommend that only Capital Cities get this option. If Possible, allowing other region owners access to a PVP region if they have Diamond or Bedrock VIP and above.

Why am I again suggesting this?

To provide a middleground for players who like to PVP, and those who dont want to deal with being constantly clicked to death and want some RP. When there are areas in the map that have areas suited to both sides, everyone is happy!

This occured in Aegis and Asulon, and made the roads especially dangerous. Players who prefer to have an  RP immersive enviornment will go to such towns with with PVP turned off[To my knowledge, only 3 out of the 4 racial nations prefer PVP]. Players who like to PVP will go to towns with PVP enabled, or lurk the roadsides. Towns unaffiliated with Nations will not have this option. Raids will still be possible in non-PVP zones, but villainous actions will be much more creative, dynamic, and even fun for both sides. There would be much more villanous methods occuring such as assassinations, hostages of kings and queens, heists, etc. Seperation or not, if players want to avoid getting PVP'd to death, they'll go to cities with PVP off. PVPers will have their own space too. Bandits will stay on the roads like they usually do. This also means players who go to X city will know what's fun for their citizens in terms of conflict.

Now I'm going to refute some common arguments.

1. This idea will destroy raids.

This will not destroy raids. The only players that would be affected by this are people who just want to PVP and dont care about the enjoyment of others. That means with No-PVP flags up, that means Villains will have to be creative in their roleplay. Start a heist, kidnap a nation leader, assassinate a political member. There is nothing fun about 8 bandits coming into a city giving out 3 lines and PVP.

If anything, it won't change anything.

2.) Its going to be abused.

I have made ways that will reduce abuse, and I will mention this below. Players who run into No-PVP zones in the middle of a PVP fight will just be ban reported like they always do. Those who provoke other nations and run into non-PVP zones will be ban reported like normal. Nation or Region owners are not allowed to engage in Nation raids(8 man) or participate in wars as long as they have the No-PvP. Unaffiliated raids are not allowed to run into no PVP zones after being raided.

3. ) This will separate the community.

I'm sorry but every player on LOTC has a right to enjoy the game. If they don't enjoy being PVP'd, then they'll have a place to get away from it. If they want to get their PVP on, there will be places and cities for that too. As long as there's a middle ground for both sides.

----

Now without further ado, the PVP flag plugin idea.

For those of you who play World of Warcraft, this plugin is very similar to how PVP flags work.

To allow PVP default in PVP free zones, allow players to flag themselves for PVP by typing /pvp. This will flag players for PVP for 10 minutes or until death. In addition to this, pvp flagged players will have a symbol next to them or a red name, indicating that their PVP flag is on.

.

Non-Flagged PVP members won't have to worry about being PVP'd in no-pvp zones, but they can choose to flag themselves for PVP. However, attacking/healing PVP flagged players also flag them for PVP for 10 minutes being untoggleable for that time. Non-flagged players will also be flagged upon leaving PVP-free zones for as long as they remain out of it. PVP flags will turn off upon entering sanctuaries such as the cloud temple, and will not be turned back on for as long as they stay in the sanctuary.

PVP Toggle will have a 5 minute cooldown before turning it back off. There won't be any cooldowns after turning it off, only when players voluntarily turn PVP on.

New players upon joining the server will have their PVP off by default for the first 3 days of entry, regardless of their location, and will have the option of turning PVP on. However, once they turn PVP on, they are unable to toggle it back off unless they enter PVP-Free zones.

Players will be notified upon entering a settlement whether it's a PVP or No-PVP zone.

Players will be notified if they are flagged for PVP or when their pvp is off,(Only when entering non-pvp zones.)

To reduce the amount of abuse, upon initiating, or being hit with PVP. Players who attacked or have been attacked in PVP zones within a 3 minute period will remain flagged for PVP for 10 minutes((possible longer) even if they entered a No-PVP zone. Players who enter sanctuaries will have their PVP duration halted until they leave, which would continue the duration. For example, entering a sanctuary with 5 minutes left of PVP flag will still have the duration upon leaving, regardless of how long he stayed there.

Players who engage in PVP within a PVP enabled city will have their PVP on for 10 minutes to an hour, even if they entered a non-PVP zone.

Bannable offenses.

Running into No-PVP zones in the middle of conflict.

Provoking other settlements and hiding in PVP Free Zones.

Declaring war. or instigating raids from a Non-PVP settlement.

Now some questions for our community. I need your opinion. (My question mark button is unresponsive, so sorry about this.)

1.) Name other ways that this idea could be abused, if any.  (If you're going to say the idea will be abused, explain how. Just saying it will result in being ignored.

2.) To combat raiders and prevent them from hiding in Non-PVP zones. (Except sanctuaries). The initial PVP flag duration is 10 minutes. Should the duration be increased to as long as an hour to allow time for defenders to retaliate? Why or why not?

3) Should new players be unflagged for PVP for a set period of 3 days with the option of turning it off themselves. Is 3 days a good duration? Why or why not ?

This is just a technical idea I wrote.

Your suggestion is good, but if it hasn't gone through in the past I doubt it'd go through now, especially with a large amount of people building roleplay around wars and battles. Non-Pvp zones can be accomplished through being completely neutral and asking for protection from larger nations.

There's questions at the end of your suggestion?

1. I don't think there are many other ways of it being abused, but people will obviously either hate or love it.

2. Pvp flag should be increased to half an hour after being hit, not giving dead people enough time to retaliate but giving more than enough chance for roleplay of the dead ones' friends hunting them through towns.

3. No, I'd say a day, maybe two days at most. If the new players are smart, they would join up with non-PVP guilds or towns, and if they want PvP, then they should be able to join villains after a day to get acclimated to the LotC environment.

I believe I said something on this last time in disagreement I still dunnae agree.

I agree. I think cities should be a haven for rp like they were in lotc. You know how hard it is to turn off a flag /region flag pvp on/off

I want to agree, but I feel this would be rather legalistic, restrictive, confusing for new players, and generally undesired.

Could you provide some specific examples of the kind of PvP annoyances that happen currently that this would solve? I don't have much personal experience.

Full support. It was marvelous when it worked like this back in Aegis.

The PVP free Regions for starts will provide a place for those who do not want to deal with PVP. If they don't want to be PVP raided by bandits, there's a place for that. If they want peaceful roleplay, you can go there too. With Item Hungry PVPers without a place to go, there will be a rise of more creative villains.

The purpose of the PVP flag plugin is to allow players to PVP in No-PVP zones if they choose to. And prevent players from abusing the no PVP zones by running into them while they were previously in PVP.

Complete support. I'd love to see this server become fully RP-oriented instead of the PVP factions mess it is currently, but if this is the best we're going to get, so be it.

Don't want this pvp? Make a wall like the High Elves have in Tahn'siol or that which was previously in Haelun'or. Keep out those you don't want.

I think that no-PvP areas would be a clusterfuck.

No-Villainy areas for towns would actually be a good idea, if not somewhat restrictive. Perhaps the Golden Lance or the Monks could perform some magic to protect a city.

I like it but i think towns should be allowed to do this as well even if they are not a part of the nation they are already such a easier target and i think this would just make the harassing and picking on them even worse
