Lark 2227 Share Posted May 11, 2014 So a while ago back, when Lark was around and I was getting items named like no tomorrow, I made a request for a Steel Sabre. When the modreq was taken, I was told there is no steel, or whatever. I said okay and went on my merry way. People still say steel and it bugs me, but I pay it no mind. Fast forward to a few months ago, I ask Zarsies to name some metal Dragon Steel. I was again told that using the word 'Steel' is a big no no and it went something along the lines of Aegis Loremasters blacklisting steel. Now.... People still say Steel, people still request..Steel..and then I'm left wondering, what the hell is the big deal so now I ask you Support and Assistance forum...Is it Steel or Iron? If Iron, why not Steel? There needs to be some sort of official announcement on this...
Samoblivion 532 Share Posted May 11, 2014 Rest in peace Lark Ironwall. In all honesty I've never heard anything about this and I've heard steel being mentioned and used in RP.
Demotheus 651 Share Posted May 11, 2014 When iron is smelted from its ore by commercial processes, it contains more carbon than is desirable. To become steel, it must be melted and reprocessed to reduce the carbon to the correct amount, at which point other elements can be added. This liquid is thencontinuously cast into long slabs or cast into ingots. Approximately 96% of steel is continuously cast, while only 4% is produced as ingots.[12] The ingots are then heated in a soaking pit and hot rolled into slabs, blooms, or billets. Slabs are hot or cold rolled into sheet metal or plates. Billets are hot or cold rolled into bars, rods, and wire. Blooms are hot or cold rolled into structural steel, such as I-beams andrails. In modern steel mills these processes often occur in one assembly line, with ore coming in and finished steel coming out.[13]Sometimes after a steel's final rolling it is heat treated for strength, however this is relatively rare.[14] http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steel#Steel_production Steel isn't the same as Iron. Steel came about in the 1400's or something, is much more "pure" and stronger than iron, and (i think) doesn't rust as easily as normal Iron. If you want steel, RP inventing it. research it, and then invent it. Idk why they care though.
Rassidic 470 Share Posted May 11, 2014 Steel is just a carbon-based alloy , from what I know. You should be able to make it with some RP experimentation.
bungo 3965 Share Posted May 11, 2014 Steel was roleplayed all throughout Anthos and then we lost IQ levels due to inbreeding and we lost the ability to manufacture it.
Lark 2227 Author Share Posted May 11, 2014 Steel is just a carbon-based alloy , from what I know. You should be able to make it with some RP experimentation. I'm not asking if I can make it, i'm asking why I can't. I've been told I can't for lore reasons that apparently go all the way to Aegis. This is not a matter if it can be done or not rply, its a matter if it can be done or not according to apparently existing lore that says no.
PtahWithin 1320 Share Posted May 11, 2014 It's because in Aegis, it was the Orcs and them alone who had knowledge of steel-smithing. However, it seems people either forgot that or it was never made entirely clear.

PtahWithin 1320 Share Posted May 11, 2014 So whats the verdict on it now..? After asking the LT and getting a variety of responses, it looks like we'll have to sort this all out.

Tethras 278 Share Posted May 11, 2014 I've always roleplayed assuming steel is a thing. Either way I don't really see a problem with it, considering iron is roleplayed as steel by most players. Either way if it becomes a "thing" or not it doesn't really matter. Since either way at this stage everyone will be on the same playing field by having steel. Edit: I've never had a problems with roleplaying steel. Haha, sure I heard mentioned of the orc "poop" crafted steel. But GM's didn't mind, in fact they only minded when people tried to have weapons named after historical things such as "Excalibur." So maybe it's a recent thing? Or just down to the GM? Dizzy771 900 Share Posted May 11, 2014 Who gives a ****? Make fun not lore. I have to agree with Aislin here, but with less profanity. Honestly its just the name of it, nothing more. It does not make it stronger in MC, and you could say that is the same in RP to, it just adds more variety to RP. I still RP "Black Iron" all the time, claiming in RP that it is "10x Stronger then normal Iron!!" when in point of fact.... it is not. Its just something to add more flavor to the RP experience.
