Firespirit44's Hiatus + Ama

Hi LOTC. To my staff, and colleagues, you are quite aware that I have attempted to announce my retirement as ET lead and take a month/two off due to increasing IRL pressure (assignments/exams), and I think that the community has a right to know as well when GM's go on hiatus, mostly so we dont get hanged when someone's says "That GM is inactive, why do we even keep them around?"

Fair point. Hope more GMs will announce their hiatus to the public so they aren't kept in the dark and start formulating opinions on our whereabouts. We do come back though. But one month isn't by any means a short span of time.

My finals will finish around late june, so I'll be mostly on skype if you need anything.

Well, its been 6 months since I became a GM, holding the position of ET lead for 5 now. As early surveyors(by SparehoeCakes) did express their dissatisfactions with me, I was never the catalyst of any rp. I never lead a group, nor have I made any major impact upon the world. I play a quiet mage now who is retired in his tower.

I am currently enrolled in university for a Hospitality degree, my hobbies are playing video games and theory-crafting. I have been playing LOTC for nearly 3 years, just 3 months after its initial launch in June. I have seen everything rise and fall twice over.

Ask me anything!(While I procrastinate on my assignments.)

Labor or liberal?

Labour. Mostly because they gave Melbourne students concession at long last. I'm not even a local here.

You dont want to see a picture of me sir

What do you wish you could have done during your time as ET lead?

I truly wished we could have made the Scourge events more accessible. The lore was not the failure here. It was the secrecy and the lateness in which I assumed strict instructions over it. Imagine what could have been done if I had been firm from the start instead of asking for permission.

hello my hospitality brother

its hell

Do you put soysauce on your rice??

Sometimes but its usually on the stuff I'm eating it with. I like chilli oil on it though.

Definitely the one with the Wolhaiksong event. That really felt like my best work. Second would be the Last Order about the White Rose, before I even became ET.

I believe that we're going about the ET in the wrong manner. You know how strongly I am against mini events. Go big or go home.

TheFactCore.

Only when you drop it.

Open up my own business hopefully.

I've always been fascinated with events. We quite literally run the server from a lore point of view. The LMs can write lore, but its up to us to execute it. Without the ET, it would be very very difficult to guide the server to where the admins want it to go from a lore point of view. It was also a creative outlet for me. To realise some fantastical events hanging in my head.

Psh. I didn't lie. i just haven't found the answer yet. :)

What advice would you give to new GMs?

What was your favorite roleplay encounter to date?

How would you say the ET has been doing from the perspective of leading, how do you think the team can improve overall?

I'm always here Zibaen. You know me.

What advice would you give to new GMs?

What was your favorite roleplay encounter to date?

How would you say the ET has been doing from the perspective of leading, how do you think the team can improve overall?

1) Strive to make a difference. Always think twice when performing a action or saying something. Try and see it from multiple perspective. Dont narrow your views or classify yourselves as 'GMs'. Dont take anything too personally, but dont ignore it and dismiss it either.

2) I'll have to say when my character's life was actually threatened. Cataris was leading a friend away from me into the nether to turn him into a undead, and he was followed by a minion, Vardak who had full leather and a diamond sword. I was armourless, and only had a iron sword to face a undead, and his minion. Everyone knew- I was going to die. But I wanted to make a difference and at least try. Cataris dismissed me as a non-threat, and proceeded to walk away with him. Vardak was left to deal with me. We dueled in the setting sun, and I somehow miraculously bested him. I wasted no time, and ran after Cataris, only to catch my friend being swallowed by the portal. Cataris laughed, and I was determine to beat him. He casted lightning and spawned mobs on me as I charged right in for him. After suffering a few sword swings, Cataris fled, while I was too injured to pursue. I never saw my friend again.

In short, it was a pvp-rp experience that really hit it home to me. I've been trying to recreate that scene many times over since.

3) The Managers I have employed are doing their best, but at the same time I feel they do not have a iron grip on the team as I once did. 3 months ago I could name you every single thing each ET was performing and currently working on(with 25 members), but with the lack of time I have appointed managers to claim that position. I wont sugar-coat things when I say things are pretty directionless at the moment. We are setting a goal though, and I've enlisted Ptahwithin's help to hammer down a objective.

But I haven't found the one who can replace me yet. And that worries me.
