Your View: Status Updates And Reputation Feedback

Maybe people would actually think about what they posted if they knew they could get -1. People like to protect their reputation, and are not so quick to troll, and backlash when they know their reputation is at stake. With just +1's before, they knew they would always be safe in that area. Of course this always has it's downside, some people could disregard people's opinions because "Oh, he has -5 rep. Clearly he doesn't know what he is talking about." when he/she could be right in some opinions.

What if you could only +1 and -1 in posts that you have commented in? If a staff member sees a ton of players just saying "-1" in the posts rather than legit posts, they can clear all the -1s from that person due to pure unfairness. That would be a lot of work though wouldn't it? lol I personally would't want to do it, so I understand if you don't like the sound of that idea.

But a player openly disliked can get a mass downvote regardless of what he posts, such as a simple question or some assistance. Making him feel unwelcome on the server. Such downvotes can affect them in game, while people bring their OOC into their roleplay and avoid them entirely. This has happened before, and the back then, the playerbase wasn't as toxic as it is now.

If there was a way to show who downvoted and who upvoted the person, that'd be great.

I totally agree. I wonder if there is an ideal way to make it work. If there is, it would be awesome XD

Here's an idea, what if you could only downvote in certain threads. Only certain sub-forums.

Return status, rep and give us the ability to -1 people. Multiple valid reasons have been stated as to why this would be a positive influence on current forum behavior and attitude while no viable reasons against such an action have been brought forth.

-1's don't provide feedback or much room for growth so I'm personally against them returning. If you disagree with someones' post, comment with constructive criticism or +1 someone who has commented. Removing status updates however seems like a mistake to me because it doesn't solve the issue they were meant to, just moves it.

See, I have +1'ed his post... and in essence, I don't need to make this post because I have nothing to add, because I agree to what he said....

However, say I disagreed.

If I could just -1 the post, what good would that serve? Why do I disagree? What do I propose in counter? Constructive criticism is based off explaining why you disagree with someone. I may be a bit shaky on the rules... but I'm pretty sure that it says criticism must be constructive, yes? Well -1's are blatantly against the rules...

All in all, I agree with Native, and he's made this same post on various other +/- 1 argument threads...

Status Updates... I think it's nice to no longer see drama pop up every now and then, but it does just end up being moved to the threads. Also, now non-staff can't announce personal events or happenings of such.

Relying on constructive criticism assumes that a community is capable of being courtious and polite, providing advice and guidance to those who make mistakes or have dissenting opinions. However time and time again it has been seen that the various lotc cliques bypass these ideals altogether moving directly to inflict the maximum amount of damage emotionally, morally and pixelly? (ig/ ic damage driven by ooc reasons, pixelly is totally a thing now). Therefore implementing a system of -1s will remove a great deal of toxicity from the forums by appealing to the innate laziness of humans allowing them to express their disapproval with a simple click rather than typing an elaborate flame post/ argument. The only thing this will truly affect is meaningless reputation, if people are going to get butthurt over some meaningless reputation points on a minecraft roleplay server then.. there are other issues. Regardless Statuses or die!

If someone is incapable of constructive criticism, they should just be quiet. Simply disagreeing because they can is just as toxic as being plain rude. At least posts can be warned; -1's can't. Moreover, there shouldn't be that form of bypass.by those groups, and if there is, the moderators should do something about it...

I'm not lying when I say that this is probably the most ridiculous reason for returning statuses yet. That isn't to say there isn't good reason to bring them back, as numerous players have given incredibly valid and logical justification for their return, but this is just absurd. Not only are you complaining because a practically useless forum group with no perks or abilities with only 2 members in it was removed, but you're complaining because you can't "rant" about it and because you're admittedly too lazy to PM a staff member.

Even so, there IS an explanation via statuses.

"Viper3X -

Redundant forum groups removed: Team Leader, Lead Developer, Developer, The Haunted, Creative Wizard and Grass VIP. My apologies if this negatively impacts you."

This is still among the 5 most recent updates, so if you're also too lazy to even look for an explanation, you shouldn't be complaining.

I feel like the forums have become boring and lost their luster with the removal of status updates. I miss them. Please bring them back.

You mean you feel the forums are sterile with out the constant feedback of other players that you could reply too. I agree.
